US citizen, better to marry Thai in US or in Thailand (registered)?
Sluglord replied to JTXR's topic in Marriage and Divorce
It's not just the shock and especially not simply farm girls missing pla-lah and buffalo. She's going to have to grind it out in a low paid, unskilled job for decades. The returnee probably need some or all of her income just to stay afloat. Two week holidays. No education. Quite often repatriation the expat has his own issues returning, jobs. She'll get online and get up to no good. She'll see Bentleys and mansions and wonder why she can't have that. Then she'll understand why... She's with the wrong guy. A lifetime of undeserved expectations. Even being together for a very long time doesn't reduce some of these issues although it will help. New marriage? She's basically uprooted by long stayer, not 15yr expat missing cool weather, bread and burgers... trouble. BTW I don't think the embassy registers any marriage and no idea how that might play out in the 50 states as marriage is States Rights issue. Unnecessary and certainly zero benefit here -

Rarely works. All sorts of additional drama is added to the relationship. States is also entering a hard recession. I'm glad we stayed and my wife glad we stayed. -

Thai Thai Thai -
On this list best mentioned in this price range (guessing) for inter schools is muic. It's very Thai for an inter which is good thing for foreign, mixed imo. Their professional standards are high. They go off to US and stay in Thailand for university. 50/50. Perhaps the intl program at Srinakarinwirot? Maybe Chula Demonstration inter. No idea costs but some good, new schools to mull. Kasetsart also has elitish inter program I think. If you can get her into Pathumwan Demonstration EP or mid-inter program that would be epic. If she's M4 she should sit for the big 3 THAI public school exams. Triam Udom Suksa, Pathumwan Demonstration and Samsen Wittayalai. Brutal. Of the above PD teachers are quite good for EFL.

That's what long holidays are for Champ. This is where we are for two weeks outside BKK in December and three weeks around Songkran. You?
-
But then again where are you driving it? From nowhere to nowhere. Well done. +2 on the sub 150cc kiddie bike as well. Living the dream

Nothing wrong with Bangkok. People not accustomed to large metro areas may have issues. Admittedly, probably best you are actively doing something like working. People overlook some nice advantages while always moaning. Ironically, one of worst things about BKK is all the farang that live on Sukhumvit. If you're stuck on Sukhumvit you're still an annoying tourist. It's the leper colony cum tourist ghetto for long stay hipsters and fake teachers.

Metaphysical mumbo jumbo for women and gays. No thanks. Oh, the stories from India on this one lol. Step over here, adjust your chakras... just take an hour... [Old hippie, maximum stoner exclaiming after getting sick and tired of blissed out 35-55yo women complaining about charas being at smoked at famous charas smoking guesthouse] xFFS!!x the stoners are the only normal people on this whole mountain! Will you kindly xSTFUx!

That's funny bc there are probably 50M of them here already and just getting poorer by the day. Being an expatriate has nothing to do with means or shi++y jobs. It just merely means you are no longer domiciled in your birth or home country. I'm always astonished at those that whether teaching in BKK, holing up in Pattaya or CM how utterly removed they are from Thailand itself. Many teachers and Pattaya residents have seen little or nothing of the country.

Sluglord replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News

TTB Analytics Forecasts Historic Tourism Growth in Thailand for 2024
Sluglord replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Pure fantasy I'm where Thais should be holidaying in numbers. The weather is stormy, unstable but Thai have not materialized. Another year older only deeper in debt .. -
I am very unhappy with the performance of my ais package. Was supposed to be 300mbps. Of course that's a wet dream. It often locks completely, I need to close the radio and or the entire phone. It often doesn't help. In dead center BKK it's worse than a few km out. I had to top up a month back bc I ran out of data. The top up gave me what the performance that I would normally expect. I'm totally throttled. No more marathon packages. Imagine that 🤔

There are no tourists here. I met a friend down on Sukhumvit for beers. It looked like any night low season. Made my extension early December. CW was practically a ghost town from what I know of it historically. Never have I seen so few people. The number of tourists on Ratchada corridor is insignificant outside of Sukhumvit MRT Traveling south from Sai Mai this evening. Number of tourists have dropped pre COVID. COVID period was disaster, never rebounded. Last year few farang, even fewer this year. I've seen half dozen and very few Thai as well. Shops closed. Even the 7 upper level closed. I don't think they have a clue OR this is just all blah blah to keep the money flowing into ministries and TAT to spend (waste). Yeah, will busy up tomorrow night but it could be 2am but it's 6pm.

O Ext (M) @ CW - No Drama
Sluglord replied to Sluglord's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You won't need to provide two sets unless asked. I can see that marriage extension might get more scrutiny eg visits (but they never visit in BKK). I wouldn't be at all surprised if retirees are asked to copy the set because the 2nd goes to police. About 4-5 yrs ago they started to ask for two maps which morphed into the entire set of docs. Point is moot because you need not prepare anything as they'll want the final set they put together and stamped. Anyway, it was an almost pleasant application and the number of people especially in L queue was lowest I can ever recall - Dec as well. -

O Ext (M) @ CW - No Drama

Great question and good enough for me to edit the original post. I included the house documents including the slip. Since they were included (not missing) I was not alerted to whether they are required or not. -
I'd just like to report that my 12th extension at CW went well. The IO was almost pleasant. App was processed very quickly and without any drama. Submitting documents have remained essentially the same. There were minor requests for additional documents for the police. Copying the stack of papers downside for police is newish since I think last year for us. Don't make double copies at home bc they will want the stamps on them. Few years before it was just domicile map 2x. IO caught me out with old photo. I think you can use these up for re-entry but forewarned for extension. * Wife, self signing understanding of overstay. This has been about for a few years, but not listed on official requirements which it should be. * Getting bank letter day before, updating book morning at CW. Never issues. * SCB unbelievably does not have a branch nor an ATM/CDM to update. The nearest is a b50 moto ride to hospital nearby. This was my last straw with SCB and I moved bulk of my funds here to Bangkok, Krungsri * Pink line open. Red line appears very inconvenient, logistics also make it poor value and I'd sworn off using it. The pink line though can be accessed at BTS Wat Phra. I'll try it when I go to pu the extension EDIT - I do not know if TM30 is requirement, but I did include the official slip that was given to me via condo owners agent. Also included were his particulars and if course the lease.

I use Vaseline on my face at least once a week. Cheap, effective. Of course, if you have skin issues such as acne, clogged pores, oily skin probably want to deal with that first but Vaseline is recommended by dermatologists regularly to repair skin / barrier. OP Glycerin or lanolin soap, Quality moisturizer and sunscreen. Vaseline a few nights a week. Best to put it on early evening. Much of it will come off on pillow when sleeping. If you want to get fancy, find a Hyaluronic acid on sale and use that immediate after patting dry your face. Face should be damp on application of hya.
