Hi everyone, I've just seen this online but all the stories I found are currently a bit light on details, e.g. cost. Looks on initial view similar to the Thai DTV. https://news.tuoitre.vn/vietnams-tourism-body-proposes-10-year-golden-visa-to-attract-global-talent-investors-103250516193404789.htm If this takes off how many of the Thai-based expats will start heading to Vietnam?

Report Thailand Eases Alcohol Laws Amid Concerns Over Safety Impact
Watawattana replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Get over to Da Nang if you can. I was there last week and there's a decent craft beer scene, including what you describe. The picture is one of the places I did my "research" in. For balance, I did end up at a Russian bar later in that evening, where they claimed that San Miguel was a craft beer. I thought about telling them that this was a worse distortion of the facts that anything Putin has ever said, but thought better of it. -

Crime Thai Authorities Seize 500kg of Ice Headed South
Watawattana replied to webfact's topic in Southern Thailand News
No, of course, hasn't ever fully worked anywhere in the world. But it might help to persuade the driver to divulge the next rung up the ladder. And so on. But of course, all those rungs are easy to replace. It's a desparate situation. I don't have an answer; anyone on the forum have one? The best progress that I know of was made by Duterte, and he ended up getting politicked to the ICC by Marcos. And now Marcos is back the drugs are returning back to what they were before. The world could fix this if it wanted, but it doesn't. -

How did your dad influence your life
Watawattana replied to Harrisfan's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
My dad spent years in the British Army (REME), travelling to very many countries. So, I got the army discipline so I knew where I stood, a wanderlust (yeah, both countries and women) but not the same as grain (reply above); a good financial sense (I got that from my mother). I could also fix my own cars, bikes and do lots of DIY around the home (but disciplined enough to know what I don't know). My dad died about 33 years ago; I've travelled to more countries than he was able to, and I've worked in more too. Not sure about the women count though 😆. -
Ferries across the gulf of Thailand
Watawattana replied to EcureuilTenace's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
This HH to Pats ferry is an ongoing joke on HH and sometimes Pats expat forums & on Facebook. A commercial operation seems a long way from restarting. You might find a non-commercial operator to take you of course, but I doubt that'd be licenced. -
Ferries across the gulf of Thailand
Watawattana replied to EcureuilTenace's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
I've used that express train, but from HH to BKK. It was absolutely fine; fast-ish and comfortable. I'm happy to recommend it. -
Some of my Filipino friends supported Marcos as they didn't like the confrontational style (aka extra-judicial killings) of the Duterte regime. But they are a bit dismayed at the resurgence of drugs and its associated crime. They don't have any acceptable (legal) solution though. Some of my other Filipino friends want Duterte back so the killing can start again. This is so that they can feel safer in their barrios. There's also a lot of allegations about Marcos' cocaine habit and how that has led to the resurgence of illegal drugs/crime. Another day in Asian politics!

James Corden Reportedly Mulling Bid for London Mayor Role

Not very private then, eh? Corden's learning one of the main rules of politics. Everything is likely to be public knowledge; the only question is when. -
UK’s Standing on LGBT+ Rights hits its lowest rank ever in 2025
Watawattana replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Yeah, that's why the UK's standing has dropped in this index. Those pesky hackers who targeted the M&S supply chain has interrupted the supply of these sandwiches, and they are slow to recover. https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/ms-slow-recovery-cyberattack-puts-it-risk-lasting-damage-2025-05-19/ -
Short Trip BKK-Vietnam
Watawattana replied to baansgr's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
I flew BKK to Da Nang last week on a British passport. No issues, no need for any prior submissions, just presented my passport to the immigration official and was stamped through within 20 seconds. Very efficient.
