If rules are in place and nobody enforces them, then there are no rules. It's like telling a child they shouldn't do something, then doing nothing when they go right ahead and do it; no way I'd blame the child. I'm really surprised there is no enforcement though, it is very easy tea money for the authorities, sitting right there in front of them. That's how it is in most countries; an easy source of regular income, just like speed cameras.

Much as I don't like how these lawyers are making money, they are entitled to be there and to do their job. Starmer has said so too, see the quote. What Sir Kier did before he was PM is relevant of course, but I don't think he's defending the law, rather defending the lawyers doing what they are paid to do. I compare it to a defence lawyer defending a killer who is planning to plead guilty, but the lawyer has found that due process has not been followed so the charges get dropped. As sammieuk1 said, the law could get changed to block this loophole. Or, the defence of a right to a familiy life could get accepted, and the whole family could get deported instead?

Good. I hope something tangible comes from this. I was lucky enough to visit Luxembourg a couple of years ago; I totally recommend anyone going to that area to visit; it's a beautiful country. I doubt too many Cambodians can afford to visit though, but I don't want to dwell on that negative. Anyone on this forum knows enough to know that Luxembourgers would very much enjoy all that Cambodia has to offer.

These are a couple of similar examples from Hong Kong, China. Both picked up during routine inspections, nobody hurt. The contractors responsible are under investigation and, although nobody got injured or died, they are likely to lose some money as a result (penalties are in the contracts). If there had been injuries a suspension from bidding for future work would have been possible with a court case and a hefty fine. If there had been deaths people would have gone to jail, as well as the company being banned for a very long time from working on any Hong Kong contracts. The site where these issues got seen has a very good safety record as the employer enforces each and every safety rule through rigorous inspections. The site is around 650 hectares, and there have been relatively few injuries throughout the 9-ish years, and 0 deaths.

It's not just policing, it's the entire criminal justice system all the way up to the Prime Minister and the EHCR. The entire system in the UK is broken.

How about enforcing existing laws? Maybe that's what this 4m Baht should go towards? No issue with the campaigns, but how many will listen. This is worldwide by the way, not Thai-bashing.

Seems that many have been deported, but seem able to come straight back with little impediment. What a mess the UK has gotten itself into, with little sign of anything else other than cherry-picking statistics by all parties and media outlets for political reasons. Shambles.
