How strange, that I live in Thailand for 31 years, and the visa system isn't a nightmare at all for me. What is not hassle free in Thailand? That you have to visit immigration once a year for your extension, need some money in the bank if you are not skint, and once every 90 days need to spend 5 minutes on a PC to do your report? I put my brain into gear when I was born, and never became a policeman

I couldn't have said it better. All those claiming that those countries you mention are better than Thailand, either haven't been there for longer than a few weeks holiday, or simply can not afford Thailand because they are skint.

Going by the replies in this thread, all these members surely have moved on to better places already, because as far as I'm aware Thailand doesn't forbid them to leave. Obviously Thailand isn't perfect, but neither was their home country, otherwise I wonder why they are here. And I'm sure that none of them has been in a neighboring country for an extended period of time (2 weeks doesn't qualify for that) or they would have known that Thailand isn't actually that bad.

I have never been requested a 12 month statement in Jomtien, and I'm on my 15th extension. Just the usual 3 month and copy of all pages of the bank book for the last year

This time he had to get the 12 month statement, not just show the bank book. He is on an extension a few years already, so knows the rules from previous years.

Been told by a friend who is on a retirement extension for a few years already, and has 800K in a bank which he doesn't touch, that this time he was requested a 12 month bank statement. This was in Jomtien. Is this the new rule?
