  1. I was back in California a few months ago and it definitely was not the same as when I'd left in 2001. OC was chok full of Asians of all persuasions replacing the Whites. It was shockingly woke for South OC. Between the US transplants, immigrants it just doesn't have the same feel. Prices outside Costco for much of anything were utterly ridiculous. Everyone's home needs repair because no one can afford it. Homes over 1M originally sold for well under 50k. You can always go home, but you can never go back Nothing there for me. I'd reluctantly move to Florida.
  2. I expect cuts in social security payments in addition to perpetual growth in money supply. My thinking is that those on the bottom end will have less or nothing taken. I'll draw at 65. No reason to push it out + 8% for waiting each year is nothing when you're paying tax on it (in two countries) and at best have twenty years of healthy, relatively active life.
  3. For Bangkok as many prices are way off as nearish reality. If other cities are as off the mark as BKK I wouldn't trust it to act on. 85sqm condo lol. They barely exist central BKK
  4. The progress is zero genius it's the weekend. I started the thread. I would like to ask you to step away from posting. I and most likely others found your posts condescending, smug and just generally lacking. Enjoy the beach and culture in Pattaya. Buh bye 😙
  5. A bit of a knob really. What makes you think I haven't?
  6. It appears many have this issue and there's little if any real consistency in possible solutions.
  7. Yes and no. They won't be able to help. Their insurance is private. Besides it's quite out of their hands. There's no benefit to them struggling with this as well. I'm gone. No, very sour grapes. They did something stupid, I didn't renew the contract. They're now a bit bitter.
  8. This was where I went. Overall, not very helpful, but the one woman that directly assisted me was helpful and we called my wife. Basically...get a yellow book and pink card 😀
  9. Thanks for that. What a nightmare. With PR 555. No good deed goes unpunished here in Thailand. I had a very random conversation on the phone which basically ended up - well, go visit the regional office maybe they know more - she gave me the sop.
  10. From what I know - no. Anyone else??
  11. If this is for a teaching job seems like schools are far more insistent on checks for UK than US. I'd never been requested and employed by half dozen schools. My advice if you're anticipating rather than knowing check with the school. Any other job types I've no idea
  12. Fully online courses were not accepted. Maybe COVID changed that but last I'd heard it at minimum was blended learning - must be on-site classes
  13. This points to one of many issues with foreign 'teachers'. Most are total luddites. Thai students have better grasp of tech than their 'teachers'. Their best tech flex is a Kahoot. This one cannot even use the internet which I'm not surprised. I'd say typical.
  14. Well, there goes many Thai lifetime savings, investment. World Bank GDP says 1.9-2.4 which is recession territory Condos in/around Thong Lor rent will be dropping. Ah, Thai economics at work. 😂 Hahaha Alcohol lobby and monopolistic, crony, old boy network.
  15. That was not the case before. It was treated fairly harshly and from my understanding a joint could cost you 10-50k and if prosecution already started double or triple that. Most definitely get some form of blacklist and probably a bit of jail if it gets dragged into procecution
  16. Maybe move to lounge so everyone can have a laugh. Two anecdotal accounts, no scientific study. So, daily (ab)use over half a decade may have repercussions? Ok, interesting.
  17. Yeah, my contract changed, I baulked and bailed out. The govt insurance was paid entirely by myself. The private school made the deduction for me as well as paying for private insurance. Kinda stressing this catch-22. I know I'll get money back, but if I don't get the ins I paid in five years unnecessarily
  18. I'm confused. Told all that via phone or email, but when you visited office they just processed you?? Correct? Processed you into insurance OR processed your SS refund AND insurance? I want the insurance. They can keep the seven years 😆
  19. Wow. Thanks for the details, complicated.
  20. I'm being told that in order to continue SSO insurance I need a yellow book, pink card directly by the region 3 office BKK. I don't own property nor does my wife. Any idea how I might work around this issue?
