In the latter half of the 90s, when I applied, Immigration was virtually able to guarantee a reply within 12 months but the process was disrupted when Purachai became IM under Thaksin and knocked back entire batches of PR and citizenship applications as "unworthy" and accused police of corruption in screening them. There is no reason why PR applications should take 5-7 years to approve and most of the steps take place quite promptly leaving the applications waiting for the minister's signature for years.
Oh Dear, oh Dear, Khun Purachai, I Thank You very much
, signed mine in 2002 just before he left. I was No. 99 in the UK section, by the way.
I applied in 2000 after 10 years on a non-O extension to stay, married to my Thai wife
and still am after 29 years together, very happy as well.
In those days you had to do the 10 year bit, now I think it is only 3 years, so lucky you, but it only cost me 25,000 baht on final payment, so swings and roundabouts.
Good Luck to all of you that have and are applying.
Win
P.S. BTW, the Blue Party (Dems) never ever gave one out when they where in power, only gave each and everyone who applied the Blues.

There has to be an elephant in the room
Please also notice that one took it's time out NOT to take a photo of folks with their back sides showing, as that is very bad form in my thinking

Hi Folks,
A few of mine taken years ago in Kan.
I called it "Unnamed Cave" as it was and still is with no name (I think?).
On the Srinakarin Dam, access only by boat, or you could swim up to the steep hill, after which you will have to climb up there if you wish.

Can anyone explain why people in kanchanaburi are so unfriendly and the shop staff are so impolite/discourteous.
i have lived and traveled in many other provinces and never experienced this before.
shop staff never wai or give a polite thank you, smile at people and all you get back is a frown, just wondered if something happened here once to cause this, the rest of thailand and thai people i find very friendly and hospitable.
just curious.
In Kan there is no problems as mentioned by the OP's, they are just laid back a bit.
Go to Kanukan Supermarket and you will get one Wai, with a sad face, Happy now.
In Kan, I smile and nod my head at local folks without doing a wai, for what, nothing to again and nothing to looses.
I go shopping to Buy and not to get a Wai and Kwai should I expect one?
For sure, I do get a Sawadee Khrup and I return it back, or I say it first.
Nothing wrong about Kan, however you are the second person to mention it on this forum.

Thanks all. You have been so helpful.
I will may be address this to KW...
as I approach BKK /Samut Prakan, I always get confused with all the exits, slip lanes and centre lanes!!! and panic a bit.
Is there anything more you can give me as warning or direction signs to get on to 9...i.e. going in the correct direction on 9, (seeing that its a circle around BKK)?
Yes of course thailoneus,
That is the tricky part of going onto route 9. It is only a very small flyover (2 lanes) from Rama II road very easily missed. I did one time and had to do a U-turn after crossing over route 9, looking right I could see the toll booths on route 9.
After Samut Prakan on Rama II road stay in the middle lane until you see BLUE signs pointing you to go left to Bang Na, Phra Pap Daeng. There are only two of them, one a few kms before and then one just before you have to take the left turning, I did both before and then, third time, since there are too much traffic (lorries) had to do that U-turn mentioned above.
I would recommend once you see the first very large Dark BLUE sign, (Dark BLUE signs denote Routes/Motorways) yes I know it will be a slower way, but safer, get into the slip lane early, as there are only 2 entrances, after the first sign and then the second sign, then once you see the second Dark BLUE sign Route 9 in the slip lane/frontage road keep to your left in this 2 lane frontage road and left over the flyover from left to right, over the Route 9 from west to east, collect your "Transit Card" and at exit 19 pay 40 baht and join Route 7, about 8-9 kms further up this Motorway route 9, 120 kms speed limit by the way.
Then once again keep to you left, go over the route 7 via the flyover eastwards, and then the rest should be history, passing the airport on your right.
So from about Petchaburi, using Rama II, as mentioned above, and onwards to say Pattaya, only the toll booths have traffic lights. Smooth as Silk, well not really, a few wrinkles, with the traffic and the roads as well. 250-350 kms approx. without a traffic light
I hope and wish you a very safe trip, and to others that take these roads from down south up to the east of Thailand.

Hi as ozziepete, mentioned, go up Rama II (2) till the interjection to and follow that, take the Phrap Daeng, Bang Na, turning on your left over a fly over (U-turn) which will take you right to Route 9 and collect you Transit Pass Card till the end when you have to pay. Get into your correct lane pay your fee (40 baht btw) and just follow the sighs to Chon Buri Expressway.
Easy really and without a traffic light in sight.
A Map an just follow the dotted line

Hi AleG,
Super photos and thank you for sharing them with us.
re:- a few spherical panos. What does that mean, as I use a pano program that gives the Up, Down then again, again and again photos. The process named "Tile". Is this the same method as in "Panorama Maker 5"?
Win, enjoying the learning bit as always

they entered Thailand using their British passports under the Visa Exemption Rule (30 day stamp).
They can get an extenson of stay for 1,900 baht without any problem at immigration, thus avoiding the overstay.
So an extention for 1,900 baht should give them another 30 days and not
they could apply for a 7 day extension at immigration, pay the fee of 1900 baht and be given 7 days to leave.
So what gives folks, 7 days or 30 days for the same price, or as the Law changed once again.

Also take into account that your current extension expires during Songkran.
Well said ovenman. Songkran starts in Chiang Mai about the first place in Thailand, second week in April, so go mid March, just walk in, as folks have mentioned and wait your turn.
Hope this helps you and others out.

This does very little to pay for the maintenance of the line and upkeep of the rolling stock. The Bridge over the Mae Klong river or Khwae Yai river that is the one people call the Bridge over the River Kwai, is very poorly maintained with obvious rot in the sleepers. I did see a maintenance vehicle check the tracks and wondered how bad it needed to get? Maybe when a train falls in the river they will do something?
Someone asked for pictures, how about a video? It's all there to see. Including me hanging off the train to get a better shot. Yes some will say I am an idiot, I would say I was careful. Lucky I didn't otherwise you all would be talking about me as well.

Well put Carol, however as ratcatcher mentioned it is the line from Ban Pong Junction to Nam Tok. that is poor and not from Bangkok to Ban Pong.
