  1. Hi Fatdog,

Good that you are staying to the Felix away from the floating Restaurants which are on the town side of this most Famous Bridge over the River Khwae (Kwai) as your wife's and your Krathong will flow very nicely down under this bridge.

A moment that should never be forgotten.

All said and done, that is what I think you should do.

Have a great time and "Welcome to (The) Land Peace and Love".

Blaming Mark Clattenburg and his assistants for defeat by Manchester United was too easy: the prospect of a thrilling Chelsea win was thrown away by simple player error.

When Branislav Ivanovic let the much quicker Ashley Young get goalside of him, the defender had the option of admitting his foolishness and hoping Petr Cech could use his experience to outwit Young one on one but chose the red card instead.

The referee had no choice but to flourish it and, as Sir Alex Ferguson observed, that was the moment that changed the match.

Then came the admittedly unjust, verging on outrageous, second yellow shown to Fernando Torres for correctly anticipating that an impetuous tackle by Jonny Evans would endanger not just his progress but possibly his shin and ankle. Was Clattenburg the true culprit there? Or was it the hue and cry about diving that ignores the difference between cheating and skill’s relationship with physicality? FIFA and the Football Association really ought to get a grip of this issue rather than court cheap popularity that evaporates as soon as the so-called tough approach to diving is misapplied.

Finally we come to Javier Hernandez. True, his winner should not have been allowed. The Mexican was offside and such was the blur of bodies as Rafael fizzed the ball into the penalty area that the linesman could not discern it. In such situations, the law says he must favour the attacking team — and he did.

It would have helped him and Clattenburg — and accorded Chelsea justice — if the fourth official had a video-review facility. But again the FA, who have weight on this issue because of the composition of FIFA’s law-making International Board, are throwing it behind a misconception, relying on goal-line technology to drag the game up to date.

    So don’t shoot the refs.

They’re just the carriers of a garbled message.

  3. The OP suggests it is unlikely that they came from the wild, so who is successfully breeding them?

    <snip>

What also appears strange is the fact that the animals were picked up in Bkk

The Tiger Temple in Kan ??????? as they breed tigers there.sad.png

Not saying that they came from there, but it is close to BKK. whistling.gif

  4. I think the only criteria for coming to the party is that you can 'sign in' to TV when you arrive, no matter how long you've been a member.

(Sorry if that's not right, Rooo).biggrin.png

Wouldn't it be considered circumventing the rules if the only reason for joining TV was to attend their party?

Why do we have to get argumentative? We haven't specified any criteria as for length or duration or membership.

We ( TV ) said all members are welcome & so they shall be.

I really do not want to enter into a debate.

    There's always one.......

Read a couple of years ago that you had to have X amount of posts before you are allowed in. Looks like rules have been changed once again. coffee1.gif

  5. Size limit in the forum software is set100K for an avatar. A 100x100 pixel avatar should work fine.

Sorry, but not quite correct as I change my camera photo to an avatar. Size was/is 110x110, 73.80K. Also when I uploaded it just a few minutes ago it told me I could upload to 200k size. thumbsup.gif

And one has to say, very quick less than (2 minutes) the 10 minutes wait that was also mentioned in the during the uploading wai.gif

From outside my Village a Mini Bus to BKK cost 30 baht each way, drive myself cost at least 500 baht without trying/paying for somewhere to park. also been on some long trips by Mini Bus...... one thing maybe good, being old and large always get offered the front passenger seat, so lot more room...... of course going on the VIP double Decker 21 or 23 seater has far more room.

  7. Super cool Info !!!

    Hua hin railroad station ??????????

Hua Hin's popularity began to increase in the 1920's as the railway line from Bangkok was constructed and King Rama VI built Klai Kangwon Palace as a summer retreat.

Hua Hin's station is one of the oldest in Thailand and its main feature is The Royal Waiting Room that used to welcome King and his court when they were visiting the town.

Originally, it was situated at Sanamchan Palace in Nakom Pathom and was known as Plub Pla Sanamchan. Eventually, the room was tranported to Hua Hin.

It is designed in the same style as Maruekkhathayawan Palace and is an attraction not to be missed if you are staying in Hua Hin.

The train station is located at the top (west end) of Damnoern Kasem Road.

    Jesper

    Hi Jesper,

    Yes quite a few really,

    1. Petchaburi up to the top of the mountain there is a palace, think there is a lift that takes you to the top. Also Kaeng Karchan Dam which is before the town and on your right hand side, maybe go there on your way back to BKK.

    2. Cha-Am Puek Tian Beach.

    3. Hua Hin, Khao Takiab - Temple, feed the monkeys, but be careful.

    3a. Hua Hin Railway Station.

    4. Prachup Khiri Khan Bay, nice Thai hotel overlooking the bay, to stay for 1 night. Food not bad, small swimming pool and not expensive. Stayed there and the big rooms on floor 5 & 6 was last year 1,800 baht appox.

    5. Phraya Nakhon Cave - Khao Sam Roi Yot - The Royal Pavilion.

Then onto Don Sak and the ferry to Koh Samui.

To Krabi as was mentioned take the Road 44.

More views and Maps on my web-page which is free of ads only photos and my links.

  9. Because the first car in Thailand was a gift from the English Queen to the King of Thailand.

In the UK they also happen to drive at the wrong side of the road.

OI! I'll have you know the left side is the right side and the right side is the wrong side. laugh.png

and there was me thinking that driving on the left was correct and driving on the right was right. Ohh well w00t.gif we all have to live and learn.coffee1.gif

One Kan feed the Monkeys BTW near the mountain/beach side front on your left, well that is what I would call their Zoo, still there. Never seen that Duck that you mentioned nor ate it. licklips.gif

Tesco Mini-Market (2nd or 3rd road) is inside this small town, so no need to go of to the main road for large shopping items.

  11. Kan, this is your back yard what have you heard or witnessed? it's your town and a man I respect, so I would like if possible your thoughts.

    Hi Mossfinn,

My Thai side of the family went there and did not like it, due to the entrance fee that they had to pay 500 Baht, a couple of years ago and it left them with a bad taste in the mouth so to speak. I did here that a lot of Thai's (Hi-So) that went there, felt the same.

When my wife and I went there many a year ago, my good lady went in Free (Thai) and I had to make a donation of 100 baht.

I did see photos of the great canyon which at the time I went was just being built. So some funds have been well spent on their new playground. coffee1.gif

I have no intention of going there after all these years, I wish to keep my memories as they are/where of that place.

I did give a right rollerking to a handler (non Thai btw) with Tiger Cubs in hand by our most Famous Bridge over the River Khwae (Kwai) two or three years ago, so I did my bit,

Did you read my post #46

  12. By this time next year there will be a movie out, I believe the movie concentrates more on the effect the war had on people and their families, rather than the brutality of the camps. This is the story of men that suffered in Thailand in a way that is totally unimaginable to the rest of us.

From a Kan site which is sadly no longer running only for viewing

    The Railway Man

    19 Sep 2010

    From our good buddy Pascal

There’s a new movie coming soon about the death railway, starring Colin Firth, it’s based on former army officer Eric Lomax‘s book about his time spent captured by the Japanese and working on the construction of the ‘death railway’ between Thailand and Burma.

As well as his Prisoner Of War experiences, it also focuses on how he set out decades later to track down his tormentors and exact some revenge.

    greetings, Pascal

    Rest in Peace Eric Lomax
