Hi NeverSure,
Since no one mentioned this place, just west of Bangkok, 2 - 3 hours away, Kanchanaburi. Good, friendly, cheap and most of all the country side with all its splendid views for you to see.
Two Rivers ect. ect. http://www.pbase.com/win13/muang_kan
The food is also good over here and not expensive to eat out.

Huuuuuh! I have been crying in my pretzels for hours. I was thinking you were a backpacker trying to "rough-it". Nevermind. Working for an NGO makes you financially secure and you can take your time to settle-in.
For me it's somewhat of a drawback because I already called my Hollywood-Buddy Steven Spielberg, whispering something like ........." great stuff for blockbuster movie in the makings here" . Now, I am afraid, I have to call it all off.
Must stop now. I feel it coming on. I will be crying in my pretzels again shortly....
Cheers.
Give us all a break, please.

So you finished your car loan off. What address did the loan have on it? If it the same as you are at now, there really should not be a problem with it.
There's another issue, we moved home shortly after we took out the loan, and whilst I told the bank they didn't bother to change the records at the Department of Land Transport, so the log book still has to old address, come to think of it so does my Driving Licence.
When I called Tisco they denied all knowledge of my new address, there was a stunned silence when I reminded them that all my bills come to the new address.
Anyway after going to two Tisco branches today we have the log book, but it's in the name of the bank and me, they've given us a wedge of papers to take to the DLT, so we will have to see.
I will try and put it my girlfriends name.
In your name would be much better as you paid for it , but then again it is your choice.
Please go and see your Bank first before DLT as they did it wrong and not you. Maybe they will sort things out for you with a letter or two.
Hope I have been of some help.
Win
P.S. please make sure once you obtain your Log Book that is has your current address in it.

As prodriver, mentioned would be a good way to go.

Also did you try and use your Thai Driving Licence to get the Log Book? as this should be O.K.
Good luck.

let us not forget one of the most famous Wat in Chiang Mai,
Stupa Pagado (Golden Chedi)The famous Golden Chedi of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Rajvoravihara, Chiang Mai, Thailand, 79 feet high and 39 feet across at its base, is covered with engraved gold plates…On the platform around the Golden Chedi are four ornamental Umbrellas , brightly gilded and adorned with beautiful filigree decorations, while the walls of the surrounding cloister are painted with murals from the life of Buddha.
According to legend, Holy Relics discovered during the reign of King Kuena (1355-1385) were placed in a howdah on the back of a white elephant, which carried them to Wat Suan Dok. The elephant arrived at the site of Wat Phra That (Doi Suthep), and then dropped dead due to fatigue from the long journey.
The present complex dates from the 16th century and was expanded or restored several times later. A flight of 306 steps, bordered by a NAGA balustrade, leads up from the road to the temple, which has beautifully decorated buildings and a Lanna-style Chedi covered with engraved gold plates, flaked by four ornamental Umbrellas.
and my fav
and then we left
Via the lift....

Tsunami - Phang-nga - Khao Lak - Thailand 53 Days After
Khao Lak’s resort area now seems more like a desert than a walk through this tropical paradise. This area is now devoid of any vegetation except for the trees left behind.

I joined (2003) after I got my PR (2002) and by a fluke. How, I do not have a clue.
Nothing to do with Visa's btw, just for a bit of fun.
In them days it was just that for me and a few more members. Had a great time with them as well, but sadly most have gone there own way and never to return.
Still here and have seen many changes to ThiaVisaDotCom. So be it.
In the end, well, just lending a helping hand out to most of you Newer Members than myself.
