  1. My passport is expiring in May.

I have a trip back to Canada in April.

I have a Non O, work permit, and extension of stay from the work permit.

I'd like to know if I can move my visa, extension of stay, re-entry permit to a new Canadian passport

at the Thai Embassy in Canada?

or should I just make a new passport here in Thailand and move everything over?

  2. I have a few questions related to all this..

How long are the passports valid that are issued in Bangkok? I got a passport done in Taipei and it is only good for 5 years!

Are the passports they issue in Bangkok "Machine Readable"? I sometimes have issues going through immigration at various countries because my Taipei issued Canadian passport is NOT machine readable!

  3. Hello all and thanks for the great advice.

  4. A friend of mine is coming all the way from a cold place called Canada on Christmas day! I think it would be nice for us to have a Xmas dinner. Someplace that is not a girly bar (we can do that after we eat). Any recommendations? Where will you be? How much? Menu?

    Merry Xmas and Happy Hanukka

  5. A few questions about depositing a check

The company who issued the check to me used a check from Kunthip bank. I have an account at Khuntip but the branch I opened the account is far away, can I use a local Kunthip branch that I don't have an account with? Is there are service charge and how much?

If I deposit the money into a TMB account, will that cost more in service charges? Will I have to go to the branch where I opened the account, or is any branch fine?

And finally, will there be a hold on the money? If so, how long?

  6. My wife wants to buy some land that has a pink "jap jong". I said that we/the owner should have a chanote made before we buy it because I have never heard of a "jap jong"

My wife says that all the land in that area does not have chanotes. She said that everyone would have to make chanotes for the entire land even though the land is separated and the families who live there have "jap jongs". They are saying it will take 2 years before a chanote can be made.

I have never heard of a "jap jong". Is it safe? Guaranteed?

Where should we go from here to protect ourselves and the land? :o

  7. This is bizarre. I extracted the audio from some .DAT files from my wife's Thai music VCD to mp3.

So, I have the MP3s. When I play them on my computer they sound fine. When I transfer them to a Micro SD card and play them through my computer they still sound fine.

When I stick the SD into my wife's mobile phone, the music plays, but there are no vocals. It comes out like Karaoke music except for 1 song which the vocals sound fine.

NOW, just this minute my wife plugs her earphones in, when the music comes through the earphones, there are vocals.

But, if I take out the earphones and the songs play through the phone's speakers, there are no vocals.

Anyone have a clue what this problem could be?

  8. I figured it out....

This is the simple way if you have an external CD/DVD drive...

    1. First mount Ubuntu EEE ISO on another computer (not your EEE because it doesnt have software support for making CDs)

    2. Copy CD-CD - Use the mounted image and copy that to a CD

    3. Hook up external CD drive with new CD inside to EEE pc (while EEE is off)

    4. Switch on EEE, when the Asus screen comes on hit esc a few times

    5. Choose boot from CD/DVD drive

    6. follow EEE Ubuntu instructions

  9. My employer is telling me that I have to tell them what my tax number is.

Seems strange to me, thought this would be something the employer would provide to the employee. But this is Thailand so I guess I'll have to get it myself.

Do I just turn up at the local tax office with passport and work permit and ask what my tax number is?

Do I need any other documentation?

  10. I have a non O visa and a 1 year extension for work.

I have to report every 90 days to immigration.

I plan to take a short trip to Issan late October and I was wondering if I can report at the Korat Immmigration office instead of coming back to Chonburi???

If the above is not possible. Should I report 2 weeks ealier and just tell them that I plan to be out-of-province ?
