  1. Why didn't he have his chow mein order disguised with a Taco Bell take out sack. Problem solved senor.
  2. The Thai baht is accepted currency here and you will be able to exchange USD into other denominations easily. I have a Charles Schwab International account with free checking and 0 ATM 🏧 fees, accepted everywhere. That way you get to own and trade stocks and keep the money in your account.
  3. This applies to any bank changes for SS direct deposit in countries served by FBU Manila.
  4. Forget about using the My Social Security website. The applicant must have an ID certification from the US Embassy in Bangkok. When completed that must be sent via hard copy to FBU Philippines along with banking info. The ID certification can be done via regular mail.
  5. From your post it seems like there is a systematic review occurring, which is fine to weed out the non-compliant or illegal aliens. We either can bear it, deal with it or get on our horses and go -- totally up to the individual. Thailand seems to have a reasonable idea of where aliens live and IDK what is so wrong. Been here 20 years and no one has asked me anything. Stopped once for speeding and once to show a policeman my bag exiting a bus at Ekammai.
  6. Curious to know what you think of Da Nang and if there is anything different than here. Been 3 times to N and S and found food options very limited outside of sandwiches and soup bowls.
  7. Unless you are American then the executor must get an IRS transfer certificate (at least 6-9 months) AND your joint account will be frozen by your bank/brokerage. Best to withdraw the money and put it in her name before you go-go.
  8. JK nurse in Pattaya has caring nurses 24x7, wonderful people. 1500 the per diem. The funeral also important and Buddhism has a wonderful and caring tradition. I just went through this process with my mom at home, peaceful and no pain. PEACE will come, in Thailand or UK.
  9. Sea Sand Sun resort in Bang Saray. Not far from Pattaya and good breakfast. Lots of trees to ching-chong on.
  10. You're bloody well correct, but they don't teach manners in schools here.
  11. This is not true if the account is a joint one with Schwab there is no probate
  12. If I tell you...when hell freezes over
  13. Have used Charles Schwab international for 8 years with zero problems. When you need a new card they send it pronto via DHL bo charge. Wire transfers to SCB bank at no charge. ATM charges are reversed.
  14. New shops opening up near Eastern Seaboard, never seen anyone enter. Must be portals to an unknown dimension.
  15. Success has many fathers, failure is an orphan. RIP the victims of this and other preventable accidents.
  16. I also read a lot, fuelled by Dasa books and Canterbury Tales in Pattaya. I get The New Yorker and read it and work on the crosswords. This forum is helpful, particularly Sheryl on healthcare; she must be very kind. The expat credo: no generousity/no reciprocity is pretty evident here. I taught school in Mandalay, almost 3 years away from family. Those are very caring and giving people. It is gutwrenching to see that destruction. Looks a lot like natural forces are pushing back pretty hard on human development. Sorry to go on with a parade of thoughts. Hope we've learned we will need to help others....
  17. From what I have read, US social security recipients MUST report to a SS office in April or risk loosing their benefits. Thailand is supported by the SS office in Manila Phillipines. They support Americans in 43 countries. Appointments are available through mail only.
  18. way better to take 3 tbs of honey on a range top and cook it with your cleaned and free of stems weed. Empty small jar and a spoonful when you want.
  19. Went to Sametivej in Bowin and for 640 baht got vaxxed. Didnt swim for 2 days, slept a lot -- but no problems. Plus the people there were super nice, albeit English free.
  20. Makkro Wagyu beef steak is quite good. Unless you're talking El Gaucho with US and Japanese beef DIY is better. Australian beef has almost no taste.
  21. Fanispan mountain in Sapa was fantastic. Hotels reasonable, food OK, nothing great Night train from Hanoi gets to Sapa area early am.
