  1. When I lived in town a few years ago a neighbour had an old soluna he was trying to sell.

It was in good condition and he wanted over 200k bht for it.

Another neighbour told us that the price went up every year and when the new vios came out he wanted even more money for it.

It had been sitting in his driveway for about 5 years!

When I first came to Thailand 8 years ago I looked at buying a motorcycle.

    I found a nice 400 Yamaha at 80k bht.

I thought it a little overpriced at the time.

It is still in the dealership, priced at 85k bht! It hasn't been moved.

I have never seen any logic in Thai second hand vehicle prices.

  2. Stop aged farangs trying to drive like they did at home - only drunk!

Stop young feckless farangs trying to drive like they did back home - only drunk.

You don't see many 70 year olds driving around Pattaya on high powered motorbikes as if they were competing in the Isle of Man TT races.

If farangs were responsible for a disproportionate number of RTA's I would agree with you, but they don't.

  3. I have never flown Thai as I always find their option too expensive so can only pass on my wifes(Thai) experience.

She recently flew LHR to BKK and on meeting her at Swampy she remarked how old, rude and unhelpful the cabin crew were and vowed never to fly Thai again.

    never flown ryanair then?

    :)

Can't say I have ever had the (dis)pleasure but if Ryanair ever started advertising themselves 'As smooth as Guinness' I may have something to say.

  4. Newbie here just trying to get up to speed with the bike market in Thailand. It seems the E650's offer best deal for your cash for a sporty all-rounder by quite a margin. IMO you'd have to be on a mission to think of paying stacks more for a supersports (esp' considering roads/drivers in Thai) as they're all imported models (?)

Welcome! Yes, you've already figured it out- the Thai built Kawasakis are the best deals going hands down in the Land of Smiles and over priced imports. :D Half or less than half the cost of comparable imports and with dealers all over the country and super cheap parts they really are value for money. And Kawasaki is talking about moving more production to Thailand! Awesome! Just think what you can do with all the money you save!

    Let the Good Times Roll!

Very little body armour in those CK's.

And why subscribe to StarMovies if your not going to watch?

    Thais eh?

  5. Also becareful regarding you luggage allowence, on a recent trip to Phnom Penh with 3 mates, they wouldn't allow the four of us to pool our luggage, even though altogether we were less than the 15 kg each they charged extra luggage cost to two of the guys who's bags were overweight.

I would have just swapped over some of the luggage to even it out.

  6. Thankyou all for your informative replies, I had thought about fetiliser coagulation in the bottom of tank and could overcome this by the following means, my holding tank is a 2.300ltr clay pot, {cost 700bht} the sub pumps into this via a 2" blue pvc, water just falls into tank, so by fitting a reducer to 1" and extending pipe to near bottom of tank this would keep mixture stirred up. the other problem is if i did use tank for fertiliser, I would have nowhere to cool down when it gets really hot and dusty on farm, so i think an injector system is favourite, installed after the booster pump, {JB, i can picture this system, no prob } MF,Dom and Stoneman, i really want to do drip irrigation on the 6 rai of spare land, {see winged beans post } ive read and studied the cheap irrigation forum and it seems that drip irrigation is done by gravity alone, so Im looking at planting 500 papaya next year, and from comercial growers worldwide on the web say that in the dry season, 1mature fruiting plant needs 10 gallons a day, 50ltrs, I think this is a bit over the top, what im getting at is to drip feed 500 plants, i would need at least 25/30,000 ltrs of water a day in dry times, so would 12 moveable linked clay pots of 27.600 ltrs and a cost of 8,400 be cheaper than 2 concrete ring towers of the same capacity?

Your views and advice is always appreciated, Thanks, Lickey..

I know that it's not a crop that I am irrigating but I have a sprinkler system for watering the lawn.

I use a soluble fertiliser dissolved in the tank which seems to work fine.

The pump sucks out the water at such a rate it really stirs up the bottom so coagulation is not an issue.

Here's a link to pics of the setup.

  7. Highway 2 in Issan is just that, a highway that has high speeds on it.While travling this road you have to be perpared to jam on the brakes a every turn. You see they have no problem just taking their cows in large groups across the highway at any location at any time of the day or night.

Now imagen a high speed train going twice the speed of what the cars on highway 2 are doing.

WOW!!! I sure would not want to be any of those cows or anyone on that train as they cross the tracks.

I can imagine a whole chain of beef restaurants springing up the length of the track.

  8. My wife got it into her head that she wanted a Daihatsu Mira.

So we went around a few locally.

Minimum was 80k up to 120k bht and they were all what I would class as poor condition.

Second hand values here in Thailand bare no relation to those in the west.

The best of luck finding anything in good condition for 50k.

  9. A note, when it comes to military interventions, the Democrats have been very good at starting wars and conflicts too. More than the republicans infact. Nixon even went to election on a peace-platform (peace with honor though) and they did eventually pull out under his administration.

Don't let the last 8 years catastrophic rule by the neo-cons (Democrat dropouts) fool you. Traditional republicans are not pro-war, pro-intervention nor pro-policing the world.

What both sides now have is a rule in true spirit of corporatism.

To bring it back to .th - I don't watch ASTV, but it is hardly surprising that there would be a radical counterpart to the equally deranged red stations.

Always knew Bushes Snr & Jr were closet democrats.

Seems the Republicans were suckered into two Gulf Wars by those nasty liberals.

  10. Assuming that it's for real whoever wrote that should hang their head in shame and issue an apology.

Not only do they spell the real managers name incorrectly but they also go publish a picture of BOBBY Robson who recently died after a long struggle against cancer.

Oh it's 'The Nation', it figures.

  11. According to the source that may not be mentioned this was the fifth incident in the last four months just on this one track! Incredible!

Thankfully it did not occur on any of the elevated section above the river.

The railway track out to Kanchanaburi and Namtok is notoriously bad and the trip has been known to take up to 5 hours for what can be a 2 hour bus ride.
