  1. I know that a lot of hotels force you to pay for a dinner/party if you stay there on NY eve, I've never stayed at a place that does this and Im looking at a place right now on Agoda that Im thinking of booking but they have a dinner that costs 6,900 baht on top of the room, its for 3 people but it will only be myself and my gf. I have no idea what this dinner will consist of, its way more than anything we would normally spend but the hotel looks ok and I would like to stay there. What are these kind of dinners like? I think the main point for me is will that price include alcohol or not as if it does I think that might be ok for me laugh.png

  2. Are arcade games even made anymore? I thought they were all pretty much killed off in the last 10 years as game consoles got better and better. Aside from SF4 what else has there been?

I guess it would be fun to go to one as a novelty but thats all it would be and I doubt anyone would go there to really play games, damn I remember in the 90's some of the most recent games cost 1 GBP which would kill your wallet unless you were really good and could stay on it a while!

  3. Getting the visa isnt the problem its getting the 90 day extension later at the immigration offices in Thailand that is the problem and they are changing the rules all the time and can do as they please. Its highly unethical actually as the embassies and consulates still get to earn money from the fees and couldnt give a damn that people are unaware that the '1 year' course they signed up for can become meaningless in a heartbeat.

  4. I just paid for a new 1 course at LX school after getting MOE approval at end of Sept and then flew to UK where I am now to get a new ED visa and Im flying back to BKK tomorrow. Not sure what I should do now though, I dont wish to study 8 hrs per week nor 4 days per week and its not what I signed up for so most likely I will ask for a refund.

Did the UK embassy already give you the ED Visa in your passport? Was it in the past few days?

yes already go it, about 2 weeks ago, did it by post.

  5. I have been hearing this too, I first overheard the staff at the school I go to tell a potential new student that it was now 8hrs per week, at the time I was picking up my docs to apply for a new ed visa in the uk and I had paid a month prior based on 4hrs per week and asked if this would affect me too and was told it wouldnt and was coming into affect in 2 months. However since then I have heard from someone else I know who is signed up at another school that they have all been informed its now 8hrs a week and that some people have only been getting 2 month extensions at CW instead of 3 as they arent doing 8hrs per week (or something).

I have just been issued a new 1 year ed visa in the UK though without any issues, apparently its when you do the extension that problems start apparently...

  6. Im sure these questions have been asked before and I have read all the info but I just want to check I have everything correct here so if someone can confirm for me I would be most grateful!

    Forms

Do I need to fill in and send BOTH the visa application and the non-immigration "O-A" forms?

    http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/151

    Type Of Visa Requested
In the box at the top right of the via form I assume I just put an 'S' for single entry? What about the other sections, leave blank?

Date(s) of Previous visit(s) to Thailand

This is a question on the visa form, I spend most of my time in Thailand and Im on an ED visa right now, in the last 2 years Ive been back to the UK for a few weeks and 2 trips to Cambodia, what dates exactly for my 'trips' to Thailand should I put? The dates I flew back in from another country?

    Duration of Proposed stay:
I have paid for a 1 year course at my school and have all the docs etc. however with this school and ED visa I have to go to immigration in Bangkok with docs from the school to do the 90 day extension so here on the form how long should I put for the proposed duration?

    Fees

For a single ED visa I pay this?

    - Non-Immigration Visa £50 for single entry or £125 for multiple entries.

Do I need to send any copies of my passport too?

    thank you

  7. Ive just been at CW and done a 7 day extension before I leave the country, I also had my old visa stamp etc transferred to my new passport, everything went fine and got it all done. I have just arrived home and got a call from immigration saying the officer forgot to sign my OLD extension of stay stamp (the one for July 16th to Oct 14th) and that I need to go back to have this done. Im a bit miffed by this as its a huge trek for me, do I really have to do this? Im flying out on Sunday so what would happen? Its not even the signature for my current extension...

  8. My ED visa expires next week, Im flying back to the UK a few days after it expires though, I assume its ok for me to go to Chang Wattana and get a 7 day extension without any hassles right?

I usually need lots of documents from my school when I do the 90 extension at CW, are they needed for the 7 day one too?

In the same trip to CW Im getting my visa stamp moved from my old passport to my new one, aside from the UK embassy letter is there anything else I need to do this?

    thanks :)

  9. Aha, vindication at last. Thanks, Pib. I *thought* I remembered leaking refrigerant being a potential cause of air con icing.

And a s....l....o....w leak many times can be very hard to detect due to location of the leak even with the most sensitive freon lead detection devices. Each and every time I've had an A/C icing problem over my lifetime it has been due to a low freon charge and of course the icing would always occur at the worst time like going into a hot summer weekend when most A/C repair shops are closed. I've have slow leak problems on two central home A/Cs in my lifetime....icing each time. And when I started having icing problems on one of my vehicles I bought a freon leak detector, vacuum pump, pressure guages, etc., off Ebay so I could service my own vehicle A/C--saved me a bunch of money of the years. A person can top off there freon charge to get the A/C working again, but with the small leak still occurring it will just be a matter of time...days...weeks...a couple of months...before the freon leaks off enough to get to just that right low freon pressure where icing occurs....and after it leaks off some more it just don't cool, don't ice-up, or do anything other than blow warm air. Yes sir, I've got the A/C slow leak tee-shirt collection...been there, done that.

thanks yes this sounds pretty much like my problem but Ive had the regular engineer out like 3 times a year for the 4 yrs Ive been here and now the manufacturers engineers, lets hope they have sorted out any leak this time
