  1. In my village on the outskirts of Bangkok there was a power cut about 15 mins ago and I heard a bang not far off so I guess a transformer somewhere has blown or something, anyway the power instantly came back on but it seems to be very weak or something for example the air works but not at full strength, fans spin slowly and the fridge appears to be off but the light inside is working but very dim.

Ive never seen anything like this before, whats going on?

  2. For the OP

    http://www.samutprakanimmigration.go.th/list-of-documents-for-support-thai-wife/

I've had extensions at Samut Prakarn since at least 2006, possibly longer (since they made it you had to use the immigration in your province and not Suan Phlu).

To the information people have posted, Samut Prakarn generally want the original plus a copy (original returned once shown).

Get the bank letter and on the day of application either take out baht 100 at ATM or with your bank book to show the ATM/Bank book amount and bank letter amount tallies...they're ok with this.

Photos outside your address showing you, wife, kids and house number. Photos of you all in 3 or 4 rooms. Two copies.

They'll give your wife some form(s) to fill out.

We've never had a home visit.

The ladies on the front desk are generally nice; the 2 men on the back desks that do final check can be tough.

Thanks, I often do my 90 days at SP immigration and they always seem to be very nice and relaxed.

    About this part:

"Get the bank letter and on the day of application either take out baht 100 at ATM or with your bank book to show the ATM/Bank book amount and bank letter amount tallies...they're ok with this."

What if the bank wont do it on the day I ask for it? Ive heard about this happening before and they might tell me to go pick it up the next day or something.

    thanks

  3. Don't forget the special paper work (extra 3-5 pages directly from the IO) Then don't forget it takes 5 weeks for IO to give you their decision. During that time you will need to be interview in your dwelling. Bribes will be asked for!

Don't forget to do your re-entry paperwork when you get your stamp if you plan to leave Thailand. Don't forget to do a 90 day while your there! Don't forget the map to your house. Don't forget... ah nevermind. lol

I did it first time last year and no-one ever came round for an interview and no bribes were asked for.

edit: Im sure it does happen though (Ive read here its not that common though), it just didn't happen with us

  4. You have to wonder what the EU actually did when they came over then? I mean you have the guy that was leading the investigation last year fleeing the country with his family and claiming asylum in Australia and then talking about how deep the corruption is and here the US are saying that its still going on but the EU said everything was fine just a couple of months ago.

IMHO this is another example of how the EU is about nothing but money.

  5. Around the first week of May my 1 year based on marriage is up and I need to extend it, this is my first time doing this.

I have a few questions and things I need to check:

Im doing it with the money in the bank method and Ive had the required amount there for a long time, I still need a letter from the bank to confirm this though right?

I have all my marriage certificate originals and will take that plus copies.

I have my house rental contract plus copies as well as landlady's tabian ban and ID card copies.

My wife doesn't need to go too right?

    Have I missed anything?

I intend to go after songkran so that Im ahead of the last day in case there are extra requirements.

My address is smart prakan so will be doing it at that IO, if anyone has any tips for doing it there please let me know!

    thanks

  6. Ive been renting a house in a village in Bkk since May last year.

We just noticed a huge leak in the ceiling outside in the part of the building that covers the parking area (see pics attached) and I can tell from its location that its coming from the ensuite bathroom of the master bedroom and more specifically the shower area.

Im wondering how bad is this and how can it be fixed? Is it just a case of checking for leaking pipes and/or grouting up the bathroom better or are we talking about ripping out all the floor etc?

My other concern is that my landlord doesnt care about taking care of her house at all (even though its probably worth about 5m) and lives in Singapore. However my contract is up for renewal very soon so I guess I have that on my side but I really like this house and was hoping to renew.post-41707-14577766888626_thumb.jpgpost-41707-14577767029754_thumb.jpgpost-41707-14577767128353_thumb.jpgpost-41707-14577767262145_thumb.jpg

  7. I bought two racks of these yesterday and want to take a shot at making some in the oven tomorrow, I have barbecue sauce and bought all the herbs and spices needed etc, does anyone have any good recipes and tips?

I read one recipe on Allrecipes but it seemed like quite a long time, talked about cooking them for 2hrs and then another 50 mins with the sauce on, is it really that long?

  8. Looking for some virus detection and removal help here guys.

First off, several months ago I had some malware or something that would randomly redirect me to websites and I posted about this at the time

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/864623-some-sites-redirecting-to-asnewscomsg/#entry9989118

I can't recall what I did to remove it but I think I just ran some virus scan programs as the problems stopped after that, then I had another problem a few weeks later where Google ads on many sites had other ads overlayed which said 'Ads by dns unlocker' this was on my Windows 7 PC and my iPad and iPhone 5 and even thought I didn't seem to be getting it on my Mac laptop I did occasionally see a few ads banners on some sites such as PCgamer.com which were intrusive and not the kind of ads you would expect a major site to run (they were tower banners that overlapped a pages content and didn't look right etc) although these did not say 'Ads by DNS unlocker' and PCgamer was pretty much the only site I saw them, all other devices had these spam ads eveywhere.

Ive always had the paid version of Norton on my PC and that hadn't warned me about anything and I did several deep scans and found nothing, I then ran other free versions of programs such as Malware bytes, R-Kill and 9-lab removal tool as well as CCleaner, these programs did find a couple of suspicious things which they removed but the ads were still there so eventually I decided to format the router as read somewhere that the virus could be in there, I posted about that here too:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/878646-factory-reset-my-ais-fiber-router-and-now-cant-connect-to-the-internet/#entry10191954

so finally after doing that the virus/malware was gone. Then just a few days ago started getting redirected to spammy websites selling things (all Thai language sites too) and again this was on my PC and iPad and iPhone but again Mac seems ok (but still occasionally see those weird looking ads on PCgamer.com) also this wasn't just when I was using a web browser if I was using any app on the iPad or iPhone e.g. Facebook, BBC sport, The Guardian, Reddit it would often redirect me when clicking a page within the app or a link to something external from the app, also my mrs started getting it to on her brand new iPhone. This would all happen very sporadically though so sometimes nothing for a full day and then in the evening almost every link clicked in an app or web browser would try and redirect me.

I hadn't had time to look into this properly yet and yesterday my mrs went on some thai site and asked what to do as and she was advised to check and change the DNS settings, this is something Id read about before with the 'ADS by DNS unlocker' and that it changed your DNS settings but at that time it had never changed mine so I didn't think of it this time, anyway she changed her DNS to something else and hey presto spam ads gone, so I did the same and no spam ads again. That was yesterday and Im in the gym today and on cellular connection with my iPhone and there are the redirect spam ads again and from what I can tell there is no way to change the DNS on a iPhone unless its jail broken.

So....any ideas? I was thinking that the virus was in the router again but I guess if Im getting it on my phone with celluar connection then its on all my devices?? How has this happened too? I had a premium version of Norton plus CCleaner plus I ran R-Kill etc yesterday and nothing found again, also how can one virus work on different OS like with Windows and iOS?

I should also point out that we have two isp, AIS fiber (which is the one I formatted last month) and TOT (never formatted) I haven't done full tests to see if I get the malware when on each connection, I *think* its been mainly when on the AIS one but not sure.

  9. Im selling an iPhone 5s and need to restore it, my wife says she did it last night and its already been wiped etc but then it was stuck showing the iTunes symbol and the cable on the screen so we left it alone, Ive been taking a look at it this morning and attempting to restore it via iTunes but after downloading for a long time it throws up some error message saying it can't do it and I've tried about 3 times now with no luck.

I dont recall the message the 1st time but 2nd time it was this:

The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. An unknown error occurred (1671)
Thing is I have no connection problems at the moment.

    Any ideas?

  10. If you are leaving the country before the 90 day report is due there is no need to do one.

The next report due would 89 days after the day you return

Im going out of BKK but not the country, I came into Thailand on October 5th, dont I get 7 days after the full 90 days too though? In that case I could do it in person next week right?

Would rather give this online method a try though, if Im in the allowed period

  11. Probably missing the proper VLAN (Virtual LAN) number.

The router also has a setting called TR-069 that can autoconfig the router without much input (it requests the proper configuration info from the provisioning server over the physical line, based on it's registered MAC address).

Hopefully the technician will get it all sorted for you tomorrow.

I figured it out, 'omci_ipv4_ppoe_1' was the network name I had to select and then I had to set a special AIS login in the router for it.

It works now but Im still a bit confused as I have created my own wireless network with its own name on my PC which I connect to but on my iPad it shows the network as 'ZTE-ed5fdd' and not the network name I created and not sure why, I will tinker further and can probably figure it out though, thanks again for the help!

  12. sorry the pic didn't seem to upload not sure why.

AIS have been saying I should call them before doing anything to the router which isn't very good tbh, they have given me my proper username and pw to add in the router admin settings but I still can't get online and they are having a technician look at it remotely tomorrow, I will try what you suggested in the meantime though, thanks.

  13. Ive had a stubborn virus on both my Windows PC and iPad for a few days now, after trying every malware and virus removal out there and not finding anything I was advised to reset my router as the virus can sometimes be on that.

I have some ZTE router which I can find zero info for on the web and I have never really touched it since it was installed with my fiber line by AIS 6 months ago.

I did the hard reset as normal and then logged into the router via ethernet, the admin settings look a lot different to other routers in the past and not user friendly at all but I think I managed to find the WAN settings in the end and I created a new network but the new network name never showed up but there is one called 'ZTE-ed5fdd' but no matter what name network I create in the settings that is all that shows up. Also in the WAN connections there seems to always be one called 'omci_ipv4_ppoe_1' even right after I have done a hard reset so I dont know what that is or why its there after a reset.

I eventually changed the pw on this and then was able to connect to the network 'ZTE-ed5fdd' but I can't open any webpages but after several refreshes its showing some AIS dashboard page like in the screenshot attached and even when I connect with just the ethernet cable I get that too. Why would I need to authenticate anything with AIS when making and connecting to a new wireless network?

Its been a long time since I setup a new network or did anything with a router, am I doing something wrong here or is there a problem with the router or AIS?
