  1. We can't assume nothing will be done about returnees...

A friend's lady came to Pattaya from an Issan province for a few days as he is off home and return date is open due to circumstances.

She returned home last night using one of those people-carrier vans, arriving early this morning.

The authorities showed up at her home later this morning to check temperature and suggest self-quarantine. Bamboo telegraph functioning well.

  2. Don't count on the Fed to make a significant impact..

Larry Summers, former Wall Street honcho and former Treasury Secretary was interviewed on Bloomberg a couple of days ago. He said that the Fed made a boo boo by lowering rates 50 basis point too soon, considering they only had 150 basis points to provide ammunition. Now they are at .75% and things are just starting to heat up. Apparently the Market is of the same opinion.

  3. As above, my friend has an older Phantom registered in Surin. He has been living in Chonburi province for many years and has not been using the bike for 3 or 4 years now. It is slowly deteriorating from lack of use. He is over 81 years old and would like to sell it.

He has been told by various sources that he must file a police report about the lost book and then take this report to the DLT office in Surin. This will involve travel and accommodation costs as well as the fees needed to bring the bike up to current. For a bike that's saleable for 30-35K.

To anyone's knowledge, is this the only option? Not possible to take the police report to Pattaya area DLT and change province? The computer there will show him as registered owner in Surin.

Anoter.... perfect play, right from the "text book".

Once again, Israel shows that they are a little more rational than other -deluded- countries.

    And eventualy, smarter

First China... Then in front of the obvious growth of the pandemic in south east Asia (along with all their lies and "face saving" BS)... this announcement.

It makes perfect sense for a government who truely cares. And who doesnt care about BS "face" and "money" and "tourism" !

It's already easy to forecast the next move :

Japan and South Korea. And Malaysia.

Borders work, borders have a use in front of a pandemic, borders have a meaning.

Many people, running after money, thought that the problem will stay within China... "because ? Because we say so. Shut your mouth, continue to buy, and watch TV".

Hope and delusion are not a policy.

Like the stupid french government who said in 1986 that the radioactive cloud from Chernobyl managed to stop.... just at the french borders.

This cloud was a verypolite cloud.... Actually, if you think about it, a very "thai" cloud. ????

For that matter the inane thai government will be the last clown to pick up a chair, and will be of course the last to announce such decision (CLOSE ALL BORDERS, and go to hell with "tourism"... Life and death are more important).

You have made some interesting posts on this subject. In fact, I think it was you that made the point that the quarantined cruise ship in Japan would be an interesting case to watch because it is playing out in full view..

Without checking today's update, there are more than 360 confirmed cases aboard. From among approximately 3000+ passengers and crew. So approximately 10% infection rate and perhaps rising.

Yet no deaths. There should be anywhere from 6-8 deaths from this group.

What do you make of this?  Statistical anomaly?

A sensible move by Israel, if this were Ebola etc.

But, I consider the media hype around the Coronavirus / Covid-19 to have reached frenzy and somewhat of a significant over reaction

Thailand is the 5th country on the list with 35 cases and no deaths.

There have been 5 deaths from Covid-19 outside of China.

    In China Covid-19 has a 2.58% mortality rate (72,438 cases / 1,868 deaths), that’s 2578 people per 100,000,

    Outside of China Covid-19 has a 0.56% mortality rate (897 cases / 5 deaths), that’s 557 people per 100,000.

Both figures are incredibly high compared to regular seasonal flu which kills 10.6 per 100,000 people in the 50+ age range, 1 in 100,000 in the 5-16 age range, and 2 in 100,000 in the 17-49 age range.

What is not clearly reported with Covid-19 is the mortality age range of those who have died.

i.e. what does the risk grouping look like for us and our children ?

I’d like to know what the Mortality rate is for:

    0-5 year olds

    6-16 year olds

    17-50 year olds

    50-65 year olds

    65+ year olds

I imagine the mortality rate to be far higher in 65+ age range than for any other age range and significantly distort the figures.

Has anyone between the ages of 6-50 even died from this virus?

Yes. One of the Chinese whistle-blower Doctors died from contracting this virus at age 34.

  7. The gem among all these posts is that Prep will protect against HIV virus. As one poster already mentioned, if you know this behavior takes place whenever you go Bangkok every 3 months, it is possible to start Prep a few days prior and for a few days after. Google EDPrep. If you cannot pinpoint when you might get the need to play away. then consider daily use. It is well tolerated by most and has been available over the counter in California for about 2 months already.

Now that you know this, it is time to stop putting an innocent person at risk.

Look forward to interest rate cuts and  a lower dollar if this plays out badly. However the good side is if you are invested this should more than offset it. For Americans like me living at home we like a weak dollar.

Really? Unless you are currently working for Caterpillar et all, a weak dollar is not so good for the average American. Everything imported to the States will increase in price.

  9. Many new MC gloves have a fingertip covering the index finger to accomodate our phones..

Harbinger gloves are very nice training gloves. I have owned a couple of pair back in Canada.. But no fingertip or knuckle protection, so not good for MC.

Remember..after a crash your hands have to be in good condition so you can use ATM/write cheques  ????

  10.

i think it is obvious to all that the average age of the "hostess" "girls" has been going up for a few years now..

But.. a lot of the disappointment is directed at them when the blame should be directed at their employers. Many of the ladies are on daily payouts these days. In my first visit to WS in over a year last week that's what the employment signs were promoting.

The catch for the ladies is that though they are being offered 1000-1500 a day, they are on a quota of 5 lady drinks per day. Each shortfall is applied against their wage. Not at the 50 baht commission they get, but at the full price of a lady drink... 150/200 baht per shortfall. Not many customers or not enough offering to buy them a drink? 3 drink shortfall means their wage is cut 450-600, meaning they could be there dancing all night for 500 baht.

Of course they are going to push the lady drinks with a compensation model like this.

  11. I would like to replace the "leather" on my name-brand office chair..

Unbelievably, after approximately 14 months, the "leather" ( real leather but not cow-hide, rather a leather produced by creating a mash of low-quality offcuts and then pressed) has been disintegrating. Apparently I was misled by the 10 year warranty on my Crazy Joy, as when I contacted customer service I was informed the "leather" upholstery was only guaranteed for 1 year, while it is the gas-powered structure that has the 10 year warranty. This is a 15,000 Baht Chair!

I guess I need a shop that does leather interiors for automobiles. I'm thinking maybe 4-5000 Baht?

    Any experiences/suggestions?
