I know of two foreign riders who have been killed on that bend in the last 18 months..
Friends of friends.
No idea of how many Thai riders/passengers.
There may be an increase in the number of accidents there now that they have removed the roller-coaster effect after the recent re-surfacing of Sai Song Jomtien

Pattaya is known as Patts all over Thailand. It's also called many other things but TVF won't let me put those ones in.
No, it's not..
Patters has it beat... but only among those who often travel to Bangers, Honkers, etc.

NOT MY WORD.....
Thailand. Such a boring, repetitive place.
They most definitely deserve whatever outcome befalls them. And, I knew the smiles were fake from day 1.
The Thais, as much as I generally don't like them, have an impressive imperviousness to outside influence.
I love seeing them suffer. They bang on incessantly about how great it is and how proud they are to be Thai
Another common character trait I dislike about Thailand.
I don't have a superiority complex.
I have superiority.
I am superior.I handle this by ensuring my life in Thailand involves as few of them as possible, and this keeps me sane, and relatively happy.
For me, their arrogance is too much to bear.
Pathetic Thai-ness!
Never forget you have your own culture and customs, many of which are far superior.
Thais are either too cowardly or simply don't care about right vs wrong and have no moral compass.
I can hardly tolerate most Thais I have encountered.
While I would love to 'revolt', we all know we farang won't. We don't do revolts well. We'd rather tear down other farang rather than supporting each other.
If there was ever a population that deserved to be perpetually exploited, some might say Thais deserve it for their lack of will to shed blood for what is right.
There is almost NOTHING NICE of high quality in Thailand, human or otherwise.
Most of the normal Thais aspire to the same standards. They care only about wealth and power.
Image distortion is a mental illness that most of Thailand suffers from.
Who would expect him, or even an average Thai civilian, to care about criminality,
The reality likely that an extremely high percentage of nationals deeply dislike you just for the color of your skin or the country you come from.
Typical ThainessThainess example 107
In other words, Thainess
They are such clowns, the lot of them.
The ONLY good reason to learn Thai is to protect ourselves from the pervasive Thai predatory environment.
Learning Thai certainly helps in many aspects of Thailand life.
It's intellectually stagnant. In fact, one might say it's anti-intellectual.Thailand is a horrid place to raise children
It's one of the reasons I can't tolerate the people.
Farang who care about their biological children are wise to avoid socializing the children in Thailand.
Arrogantly run all the people away, then, while wearing smug, fake smiles, whore the country out again, begging for them to come back and spend money.
We Farang really need to stop being so compassionate with these people.
I really wish they would just have REAL pride and state their disgust of farang and ban all of us. I could respect that.
Thais, however, are notorious for not being able or being unwilling to pay medical bills.
I hate most things about Thailand, and I have more money than I can spend easily in my remaining years. And I love complaining, too. Since I love to hate the place, I'm planning to stay and complain.
Thais will continue to be xenophobic and closed off as much as possible to foreigners.
Any clued up Westerner knows that if a Thai approaches you to talk 9 times out of 10 it is a scam.
very typical of Thai to target the weakest in any confrontation.Thai work culture is about the most inefficient I've ever seen anywhere across dozens of countries I've worked in.
Then I consider that, if your friend is anything like an average Thai, would she be corrupt just like so many other Thais if she had the opportunity?
Play Thais at their own games.
I meet my friends in nice countries, not Thailand.
A Thai professor friend of mine who teaches at Chulalongkorn University
Farang with actual close, educated Thai friends and family are more likely to know this.
I have a couple female friends who are THAI Air flight attendants
I don't care that Thais don't like me. Most of them will never have any significant impact on the world. Their lives are useless.
I think that MOST Thais dislike Farang.
In Thailand, most Thais don't trust other Thais
I know 95% of Thai people like Thai people
I am smart enough to know how Thailand works.
I strongly support my fellow farangs
Thais must earn respect, and generally they DO NOT treat foreigners with the same respect they offer each other
Always find it amazing how expats can ignore all the many and pervasive "us vs them" xenophobic culture in Asia and especially derivative Chinese countries like Thailand.
I don't know of ANY country where Thais have a good or even neutral reputation.
I am still convinced hatred of foreigners is commonplace.
I care only about my fellow decent Farang.
Thais simply don't care about Farang; we are not humans to them.
I've been frustrated by this for years in Thailand
Many of us could see through the fake plastic Thai smiles from day one.
I don't want to risk them poisoning my food or similar, so I simply avoid dealing with them wherever and whenever possible.
How pathetic. A nation of children
The reality is that his supporters would be FULL of middle class and wealthy Thais who, for example, despise westerners just because their skin is white.
Typical excessively sentimental Thais. Maybe a somtam party with loud, horrible music and cheap, poisonous rice liquor will help.
Farang will spare no opportunities to make these snob Thai-Chinese aware of how unskilled and unclassy and poorly educated and poorly cultured they are.
Unless an entrepreneur is building a enterprise of grilled pork stands, there really is no business case for hiring a bunch of Thais.
Thailand is a TERRIBLE place for people with money and class and manners and intellect and worldliness.
one almost never sees Thais mixing with foreigners.
Thailand is an absolutely horrible for a young expat to work
I'm pretty sure Yinn is not Thai.. unless "she" grew up in an English-speaking country..
Much of the vocabulary used in these selected quotes would be too difficult for an ESL person.

Perfect moist chicken breasts...
Requires pot/pan with lid. Heat pan/pot to medium hot. A little oil to prevent sticking. Add chicken breast/s. Turn over after 5/6 minutes and cook another 5 minutes. This without lid. Turn off heat source and apply lid. Wait 10 minutes. Done.
Voila, no more dry chicken breasts!

follow up..
Mi Thailand will be selling the Mi9TPro and K20Pro but are not selling the non-Pro versions, so I already knew that if I want one I will be dealing with re-sellers..which means grey market.
But this fellows ads just seemed...off.
-
Since I am interested in these phones (Mi9T/K20 not the Pro versions) I was looking at listings in the last 2/3 days and saw these listings. I knew something was off but thought that they would be grey market..
What you are describing sounds very much like fraud and Lazada should be making more effort to police their marketplace.
Good luck.

They will fit under-seat storage of most bikes but you will not be able to fully close and lock the seat..
I have 2 moto/adv helmets, different brands. Neither fit well enough to allow locking, but the seat looks closed so I take my chances.. ????

Do you use sunglasses with your motocross helmet? do they usually fit ok?
Yes they fit ok..
I use those 100/150 baht safety glasses sold in Thepprasit night market and Tuk Com. They have yellow ends and are flexible. Yellow color for night. The clear ones have too much glare.

I switched to a motocross helmet about 3 years ago...
First few years here I used full-face helmets, but honestly they are hot in a stop and go urban environment. Then I began to use open face for better peripheral vision and cooler to wear in town.... But I was always aware of lack of facial protection.
Motocross/adventure style helmets offer good ventilation and facial protection.
I appreciate the visor as it cuts down on sunshine from above...

I'm not impressed with his little digs at India & the Royal Enfields whilst extolling the virtues of Vietnam and his own tour company in the article.
That is my point.
Not exactly a fair and unbiased viewpoint is it?
Even to the point of comparing lush greenery between the two countries.
Vietnam is more green than the Himalayas...
Really? Ya don't say...
As for a stock CB500X still running stock mag wheels - not really off road ready is it?
The guy wants to spend 1k $ on a pair of spoked wheels per m/c to get his street (off road tour) cred up.
He also moans about the RE's constantly breaking.
I'm not seeing any mag wheeled CB500X's doing that trip on those roads.
Strange that.
Innit.
After reading the article, and then your reply, I just felt your description of the fellow was unfair..
"The guy comes across as a a moaning, jealous, ignorant <deleted>." This.
That was certainly not my take-away from the article.. Comparisons will always have pros and cons. As for off-road cred, those routes into the Himalayas are not off-road. Bad roads yes, off-road no. He made good points about altitude sickness, the danger of those roads, the skill of the Indian drivers of HGV vs the almost non-existant skills of VN drivers etc. Lack of food, fuel and internet coverage in this area of India etc.
I live in India for several years in the early '70s and put more than a few miles on the Enfield Bullit 350. They were almost modern then! Heavy with poor braking, although not ridiculously so for the times..but better than the Rajdoot 150 two-strokes and Bajaj (Vespa license) available at the time. Now India, like Thailand, has many better choices of motorcycles. A fellow in my condo building bought a Royal Enfield 500 Classic. After one (1) rainy season most of the chrome, and there is a lot of it, was heavily rusted. What? There is no rain in India? I beg to differ. Lack of quality. The result of almost 40 years of a monopoly. No incentive to improve. Now they have to compete and like HD in America, they took the market for granted and are paying the price.

No.
Plenty of people worldwide want to do India, Nepal and the Himalayas as a once in a lifetime motorcycle trip/adventure.
The pinnacle if you like.
Not easy. Hardship. Discover your inner strength. Character building. A proper adventure that is a polar opposite to where they have come from.Etc etc.
Way more than hiring an easy to ride Honda CB500 on easy to ride Viet roads for a week long holiday.
Not the same.
The guy comes across as a a moaning, jealous, ignorant <deleted>.
If he thinks its cool and "adventuristic" showing him sitting on a CB500X with a rear wheel showering out a bit of sand on a normal bit of off road, i'd find it rather embarrassing.
What's your point TG? The guy has done the Himalaya trip.. You aren't impressed by the CB500X in Vietnam but say nothing about the many pictures from Northern India.

The police have been letting this go on for too long now. The Yamaha MSlaz, very popular with young Thai riders, was the beginning of wide-spread replacement of factory exhausts. Now almost every one of them is super noisy..
Seeing this, many of the youngsters who can only afford Waves have started doing the same.. Not putting on replacement exhausts, because that would look stupid even to them, but probably punching holes in the baffles of the original exhausts.
It's gotten to the point where a good percentage of the bikes favoured by youngsters are offensively loud. Even some of the automatic scooters are following this trend.

Given that the outcome of these elections was never in serious doubt, I would prefer to think that BJT's basic election plank has been assured to bring them onboard...

They were there to finalize the financial terms of the settlement. It was agreed that Somchai would pay Jatuporn's mother 2.5 million and Nuchanat's elders 2.5 million baht.Jatuporn's two children Suphapitcha, 15, and Piyapha, 12, will each get 15 million baht. As they are minors the money will be administered by the court until they are adults.Piyapha has recovered from her injuries and is now back at school.Jatuporn's mother told Thai Rath that her son was a forgiving kind of person and he would have wanted an out of court settlement. She said that in addition to the money terms agreed Somchai has paid Piyapha's 1.5 million baht hospital bills, cleared family credit card debt to the tune of 5 million baht and even bought them a new red plate Toyota Fortuner. It all came to about a 45 million baht settlement, she said. She said that Somchai was sorry for what he had done and has stopped driving and has his own driver now who ferries him around. He has also given up alcohol and just drinks coffee, she said.He has offered her grandchildren jobs at his company in the future. He knows how they feel as he has two daughters of his own, she said. Now she wanted this settlement to be an end to it.People have been driving under the influence of alcohol since automobiles were invented. It's dangerous to themselves and others and Thailand is just in the last few years coming around to less tolerance of the problem. But these drivers don't set out to be killers...This settlement seems to be a reasonable attempt to make amends. He now has a driver. He has wiped all of the family debt and paid all medical bills. He has paid the majority of the money to the children and offered employment to them in the future. This is called accepting responsibility.Yes, he is wealthy enough to be able to do this but he has done it without delay. And he has given up alcohol.- 13

Ah..the internet. The unknown becomes the known..
As a young man I lived in India for several years. No visa problems for Commonwealth citizens at that time. Unlimited stay possible. The tax clearance certificate was a simple visit to the office. At that time I was not rich enough to be of interest to them. I would not see that as a problem but then again, I'm still not rich.
As already noted, India is a huge country. It has almost any climate you would prefer. English widely spoken. Excellent medical available and much less expensive than Thailand. Great food.
Much richer culture and history than Thailand.
The new visa options of 5 and 10 years are very good.. Calcutta/Kolkatta is a 2 hour flight from Bangkok. As mentioned also, the 2 month absence is no more, fly out one day return the next.
The Indian government don't advertise "Retirement" visas but their "Tourist" visa can function like one. Get the 5 or 10 year version. 6 months on arrival. Fly out. Return. Repeat.
No financial requirement. No reporting every 90 days. No contact with Immigration except at the airport.
I have just renewed my Retirement extension here for the 17th time. Like many, I feel that Thailand is moving the goalposts and as I get older that is an issue.

I was shocked to recently read an article detailing how prominent a part Biden played in supporting and prosecuting the War on Drugs.. efforts that resulted in so many incarcerations of American citizens including - of course - a disproportionate percentage of non-white citizens.
He is still against legalization of cannabis, which makes him the odd man out among current announced Democratic candidates.
This background, which will be highlighted by his Democratic opponents, combined with his "slightly out of touch" problems with women will be the end of his campaign.

However, I now have the first issue with this bike, we went to Koh Samui last week with a friend on his own bike and back to Phuket just a couple of days ago. All good except the little blue light on the LCD dash display that shows clock and trip and total KM and gas consumption went out while there. All other things and other lights on the dashboard works fine, and I can read this LCD during the day fine, but not at night. Honda said it can not be repaired... !!!? Dah... whole dash has to be changed and the dash costs 7500 baht... ! ....AND the dash has only 1 year warranty, so yours is out of warranty.
I am very disappointed, I guess if the previous owner had used it a bit more and this happened he could have fixed it under warranty, but now, not worth it really, a Honda mechanic said stick a little LED light above it for night...might work... !
On 3/1/2019 at 4:59 PM, Agusts said:I have the same problem with a Sym 400.. replacement dash about the same price as your Forza. I received the same response to replace entire dash. Not only the expense for the dash but odometer starts at 0 again..
There are videos on YouTube showing that it is possible to repair these dashboards. The led lights are called SMLed. Surface Mount Led..
Honda/Sym dealer don't want know. Much easier to sell and install new dash. I'm going to show my local tv/everything else repair shop the video I downloaded to see if he can source the correct lights. The video I have shows how to remove speedo and tach needles without breaking them and how to mark the panel for correct reinstall.

Poor decision.. While over-sized passenger and the 5'3" complainant were paying the same fare, the smaller man was receiving less than fair(fare) value. Obviously so, if the 320lb. man is encroaching on the seat space paid for by Mr Prosser.
The main fault is the failure of the airline, for accepting such a large passenger at the same fare level.

Father's energy legacy haunts Canada's Trudeau as he seeks to heal rift with angry Alberta
in World News
Posted
Sometimes hard to read the opinions of my fellow Canadians... but we are still more polite about our political differences than our neighbors to the South.
So,, the Canadian government spent C$4.5 Billion to keep the pipeline to the West Coast alive but they don't want to help the Canadian( Alberta) oil industry? Nothing mentioned about the binding Treaties signed with sovereign Indigenous tribes by our British Colonial predecessors? It hasn't and isn't going to be an easy process...
I'm 68 years old and born in Alberta. An original Albertan, not someone born there to displaced Eastern economic immigrants.. ????
That "smug little Prince" had the cojones to reverse a 75+ year policy of criminal discrimination against the sizeable number of citizens who believe it's their choice to decide what they do with their own bodies. Something which still scares the bejeezus out of most Western politicians (although this is demonstrably changing, but someone has to be in the front ranks)
Republic of Alberta? Would be funny but then I think about places like the former Yugoslavia.
