Yes it would be wonderful if Thailand was the same as the UK and all Thai were the same as the British! ' Queens Highway- pathetic!

Well.. they do have a Queen here.

I wonder how long you were in Thailand before you joined TV 4 months ago....

I also had the experience of having my BMW keyed the entire length of the car for parking in the "wrong" place. It was not an area reserved for win motocy, just an open spot on Soi Buakhao several years ago when it was a much quieter soi than now.

And yes, the issue of "restricting" public access to public roads is actually a huge issue.

I was just checking the restaurant news and ended up following the back and forth on Indian restaurants...

AE... you present as aggressively-defensive on this issue. I lived in India for 7 years. That's for credibility.

I absolutely believe that almost all Indian restaurants in Pattaya are over-priced for the quality of food they offer. And I have eaten it in many other countries as well, so my basis for comparison is extensive.

I wish they weren't as I'm not a big fan of Thai food.

Typical car/bike owner. They are there to save lives. If you went slow in built up areas there would be no need for them.

Did you really think that through?

These speedbumps are on the roadway. You know..designated areas for vehicles.

As annoying as they are, they are on a small percentage of roads. Following your reasoning there should be large numbers of vehicle/pedestrian collisions every day on the un-bumped roads. But there isn't.

  4. There is no direct bus between Ekemai and North Pattaya.

On the way TO Bangkok it will stop at Central Bangna, HomePro BangNa, BTS UdomSuk (if needed)

On the way FROM Bangkok they often stop at Roong Ruang busstation Bang Na, Laem Chabang, Nong Yai and the intersections at Banglamung and a temple along Sukhumvit before making the U-turn back to the station.

The stop at the gas-station is not regular, but it happens.....unfortunately.

    Bad aircon? Probably bus 48-1.

I don't make that trip often, but bus 48 shows up more often than not. sad.png What a clapped-out unit. Usually a much nicer bus when returning to Pattaya...

  5. While I realize the obsessive Israel demonization agenda will take his statement out of context and use it as "Jew washing" (it's a thing, look it up) to support continued demonization of Israel. So in that sense, perhaps he shouldn't have given such ammunition to people who obviously hate Israel ... but the context really was INTERNAL.

I think this article explains that very well but you really need to read the entire article to get the context, which also explains the INTERNAL context of the general's statement:

Why are Israel’s generals being so noisy? Quite simple. In their near-unanimous professional estimation, stretching from a proven hawk like Yair Golan across the spectrum to the 200 ex-generals of Commanders for Israel’s Security, they see Israel facing an opportunity now, given the current Palestinian leadership, the weakness of the neighboring Arab states and the openness of the Saudi-led Arab League, to make deals that can secure Israel’s future. Instead they see a political leadership that’s letting the opportunities slip by for ideological reasons.

I see all the usual suspects have lined up to like this. The General simply states the obvious. No amount of obfuscation will talk that statement away. Why do you think Bibi was so furious? Note the very serious and solemn occasion which was chosen to deliver this statement...

  6. OMG............ lives in his own world when it comes to driving here.

Any post referencing how the driving experience in Pattaya has deteriorated over the years is sure to feature a response from him denying that this is the case. " We live in a big city now and better get used to it," is the jist of his argument..

Now that we know he's a serial red-light runner along with all the other bozos, I'm sure the rest of his driving habits (probably from behind deeply tinted windows) are equally local.

I have lived in Pattaya for 14 years and the driving experience here is not pleasant.

The standard of driving in all of Thailand has not deteriorated one iota since I first started driving here around 37 years ago. What has changed in the last 3 to 5 years is the sheer number of vehicles on the roads with a commensurate rise in the number being driven badly. The driving experience is not pleasant ANYWHERE in Thailand. Those gurning about Pattaya's frequent gridlocks, lack of parking, bad driving and lack of law enforcement should stop feeling so bloody special or particularly hard done by.

    Get over yourselves it. Please.

Note that i used the phrase "driving experience", not driving standards. The bold type sentence in your reply accurately reflects my feelings.

And.. I first drove in Thailand in 1972. So 44 years vs. 37. tongue.png

The rest of the respondents who chime in with "I get where I'm going because when in Rome.." can continue to endorse the abysmal driving of the bad 10% of locals..

  8. Air con should be on a separate circuit, not same as other sockets.

Just out of interest do you have an efficient earthing system? PLEASE CHECK

How is the weather where you are at, a lot of rain recently?

Yes, the air-con is on a dedicated circuit. My reference to other circuits in the room was to circuits on different breakers.

I instructed the construction electrician that I wanted my system earthed. Sai Dinn. How it was done I'm not sure, but it's not like a house where you can drive a rod deep into the ground.

Not much if any rain lately.. but the breaker box is inside my front room.

  9. I actually suspected grilled gecko, and was almost expecting to see one when the front panel was removed. But no...

Ants? Well, there hasn't been an ant seen in my condo for at least a year, i.e. before the "events" happened. That's thanks to that wonderful American ant-killer whose name escapes me at the moment. But I can provide the name for people who have ant problems.

To the posters who suggested a loose wire, you might be onto something there. The compressor unit is mounted off the ground in one of those brackets, and is on the same (thin) wall as the breaker box. About 1.2 meters apart but different sides of the wall of course. So there is very definitely vibration in the wall, perhaps enough to loosen a wire. But it must be on the air-con breaker, as there are no issues with any of the other circuits in the room.

While the air-con was running yesterday, after the spark and pop, I put my hand on the lower left of the box and it was warm to the touch. I shut the air-con off after about 20 minutes and a little bit later the same area of the box was noticeably cooler...

  10. smile.png

Now that I have your attention..

Seriously, yesterday I turned on the air-con in my front room and immediately saw a bright spark exit my breaker box, accompanied by a loud pop. The air-con turned on. There was a "burnt electrical" smell. I stared fixedly at the breaker box for 5 minutes but no more excitement. This is not a regular occurrence but..

I mentioned flames in the topic heading. Twice in the past year, once on opening and once when it had been operating for a few minutes, I have seen a small flame drifting down from the box. Floating almost, extinguished before hitting the floor. Suitably alarmed, I rushed over to the box but could find no residue on the floor. Twice.

Now before you start thinking that I like to live dangerously, I have to say that I called in an "electrician" after the second flame. Front panel was removed and there was "scorching" inside the panel, opposite the breaker for the air-con. But it was like scorched dust, not scorched paint, and it was easily brushed away, leaving a pristine painted surface. Diagnosis? A mystery...

Another piece of the puzzle is that I have a quality G.F.I. breaker of the proper size on the air-con dedicated circuit. It didn't trip on any of these occasions.

This air-con unit is not regularly used and is in almost new condition,

    What's happening? blink.png

  11. I always thought and aimed for 1g. per .lb of lean muscle mass, as tropo says. Not 1g. per .lb of gross body weight...

And I like protein shakes. Milkshakes with benefits! smile.png

  12. Can any of you guys riding around explain to me why you NEED a loud exhaust pipe?

Does the bike go any faster, is it more efficient, cheaper to run or what?

Loud pipes is your horn.So cars and trucks see you.It helps from getting ran over.

    Uh...No.

    Your horn is your horn...

Would you drive around all day honking your horn? That's where your logic leads you....
