  1. JingThing.....

    There you go again. :D

This just like the taxi thread! You start the post, raise issues. Do no follow-up and then get defensive when called on said lack of invovlement in your own issue. :o

Are you going to be a serious stand-up poster here (over 4000+ posts) or just a stand-up comedien?

    Enquiring minds want to know.

Btw JT, don't you think it's time Ms. Hillary did the stand-up thing herself and cut a deal to accept the VP slot?

  2. either use that link that siamsam posted or get them imported in BULK.

DONT IMPORT A LITTLE BUT BULK. Why? Because if you only lets say buy a few things and shipping might cost you on it say $60 fedex/ups eg 3kg but you could buy say 18kg for say 180kg not hard to see the saving.

Using sites like bodybuilding.com(theres a discount code for 10%), bulknutrition.com(code for 5% OR you can negotiate a discount on a big bulk order), vitacost.com(5%code), iherb.com and many more vitacost ships UPS international express at ALMOST the same prices as bb and bn etc charge for NORMAL international mail and ship order if recieved before 2pm est SAME DAY which means you get whatever within 2-3days.

You neglect the fact that the import duties will be horrendous and quickly bring the price back to what we are paying here.

  3. I have 2 pair of Jockey briefs made of moisture-wicking material aka dri-fit etc. Expensive at over $30/pr.

They work as advertised regards wicking, but it's not like your groin area will be powder-dry! As well, since they are underwear, you are wearing overwear and that severely impacts the performance of the material. Evaporation requires air movement to work well.

I rarely wear them, prefering boxers. Much more comfortable and reasonable air circulation.

Shaving and going commando? :D Boxers are almost commando and shaving makes the problem worse. An attractive trim is the answer. :D The hair in that area performs anti-abrasion duty.

You could try switching to PH-neutral body washes. Dettol makes one soap-free and neutral. Label is in thai but soap-free and neutral in english.

If you get a rash, use the medication at least 2-3 weeks to make it really go away.

The powders work well for comfort but can't fix a problem.

And the no-brainer for hot climates...wear shorts as much as possible during the day. Save the long pants for evening wear and trying to impress hi-so women. :o

  4. Well, if it is priced in the Bt.120,000 then I might be interested.

Unfortunately, given the performance of our N.American currencies and the fact that I would probably get Bt.25-30,000 for my 5 year-old Cbr150 w/20,000km, leaving a difference of Bt.100,000 to be paid out, attention is probably all I'll be paying. :o:D

  5. I did once see a ferang man collecting bottles there. Subsequently he appeared on TV and in newspapers. As far as I know he was only collecting the bottles to return for cash.

Has anyone else attempted such a task? Is it worth starting or will so much more be washed up anyway?

Well, that farang you mentioned is a member here in ThaiVisa.

He is most definately not cashing the bottles in!! :D

He has been doing exactly what you propose for over 3 years now. Every day. Usually 2-3 hours daily. Hauling trash out of the ocean as well as cleaning the beach of litter. This is here in Jomtien but he has cleaned several beach ares in the area. Sort of a bus-mans holiday I guess. :o

His member name is..KOTO or koto not sure. Send him a PM.

  6. Did you check the static pressure specs of this electrostatic filture compared with the air volume rates of your a/c? All filters are different.

    Thanks for your response, elkangorito.

As for the original question, I had noticed that the fan sounded like it had slowed down but wondered what else might be going on "internally". I leave my setting at 26 so I don't know if using this feature saves me energy. Logic says no if it sets to 25 but with only a slower fan speed. Do most people set for lower temps do you think? When I select the "auto" mode I see it starts at 24, but I prefer to use the "cooling" mode where you set your own temp.

And on my second question...Perhaps my use of that phrase "load pressure" suggested I know what I'm talking about. I don't. :D And my reading of the web-site made me think all I had to do was cut-to-fit and start enjoying cleaner air. So the answer to your question is no I did not check. I don't even know how one might do that, ..i.e. what stats to look for. The box only shows how to measre for size..I think. Since it's all in Thai, who knows what it says!! :o

  7. Bump!! :D

My topic seems to have stalled out. With many responses to the other air con topics, I was hoping to have had an answer by now.

And rather than start a new topic, I would like to add another question...

I purchased those 3M electrostatic filters for air con after reading the 3M site which stated that they are designed to not affect the "load pressure" while producing significantly cleaner air.

Well..not true. :o After installing the filters and upon turning on the air con, it sounded like it was being strangled for air. The sound was completely different to what I am used to hearing. Even turning the fan to it's higher speeds did not change this sound. By that I mean that the pitch of the fan did not increase at all!

I immediately removed the filters and all was back to normal. Did I miss something here or are split systems too finely tuned to interfere with their air intake?

  8. America strikes again!! :o

Steroids illegal?? Ok, if a competing athlete there should be a level playing field. But for the average person it is not an issue for the Nanny State if they want bigger muscles.

And where is the justification? Steroid Rage? Ha!

A person's body is their's to do with as they please. Will it soon be illegal to eat so much you are morbidly obese? Don't laugh, it's possible. :D

One side benefit of a deep recession in America will be if there is not enough money to run around the world doing things like this. Make stupid laws then arrest everyone who does not agree with their flawed logic.

  9. Sorry, bobbin, I did not mean to giving you a hard time. Really, it's more a worry by me that we finally replaced the tire and now maybe it will be bad in the rainy season. My apology, for I guess I got you confused with the new guy.

    PeaceBlondie

No problem. Actually I was worried I was being too sensitive. :D

I don't think you have to worry about your new tire. As we have discussed many times on this thread, most of us would be happier riding on brand-name rubber. Dunlop has a long history of making good motorcycle tires. I might suggest tho, that you track down the rear tire and ride on a matched set for best performance.

I asked NewXpat to elaborate because I dont understand how the performance could change after only a short period of time. New tires are slippery the first few hundred kilometers because of the mould-releasing compound the factory uses. So to start slippery then improve to good grip then back to slippery in a month or 2 is hard to understand.

I'm pretty sure your Dunlop is a harder, rather than softer, compound. I dont think there are many rain-dedicated consumer motorcycle tires out there. So it stands to reason they will perform decently in the rain, as that is the concept in an all-round design.

The softer compounds are for the real high-performance machines. And they have to be replaced often.

And what's the story about Michelin? Now they are available as well?

    bobbin....

riding on a new set of IRC. :o

  10. NewXPat, I got 51K km out of my front tire OEM IRC, so it must have had a very hard compound to last that long. Where did you get the info about the Dunlop being slippery? Perhaps the same place the other poster got the info that they were tube tires?

    Geez PB

That last sentence about the "other poster"sounds like a bit of a shot. :o

Considering I made the 2nd post in this long thread almost a year ago and have posted regularly since then, I would have hoped you remembered my name!

In that 1st post ( I just checked it) I see I referred to the TT900. Just above these last posts, I sorted out that you purchased the TT100, not the TT900. The Dunlop TT900 is a tube tire.

Purchased my Cbr150 Dec. 4 2002. One of the first on the road

  11. >The sleep mode is interesting but lasts only 6 hours, while I sleep for 8 hours usually.

When you press the sleep mode button, have you tried any of the +/- buttons?

On our Mitsubishi when you tell it to go to either of the timer modes you are given the option to start cooling in X hours or cool for X hours then turn off, adjust with the +/- buttons.

No, I have those timer modes as well. I guess for coming home from work etc. and you want to enter an already cooled room and the other timer mode, i.e. on for 2 hrs and then off. The sleep mode is in addition to these modes. The latest model's sleep mode lasts for 8 hrs.

Then you have "turbo" mode if you forget to preset for cooling at a certain time, where everything is on max. I'm afraid of that mode. :o

  12. Are you sure sleep mode turns it off? Believe it just provides a larger spread (starts cooling at 2 deg higher than setting rather than 1 deg). Believe the econo is probably a dehumidifier priory setting - low fan speed so humid air gets the water taken out better as it flows through the cool fins.

But both above are only a guess as do not have that unit.

I think most new machines have this "energy saver" option, not just Samsung.

The "sleep option" is a seperate program. It starts off at the temp you set, i.e. 26. After 1 hr. the temp rises 1 degree. i.e. 27. after another hour the temp rises 1 more degree i.e. 28. The temp stays there for 4 hrs. then the a/c shuts itself off. The theory is we fall asleep easier in a cool room but sleep better as it warms a bit. No more waking in the middle of the nite freezing.

The dehumidifier option is also a seperate mode from energy saver mode.

  13. Recently purchased two Samsung air con units. 18,000 and 24,000 btu.

There is, as noted in topic, an "energy saver" option on the remote. When I engage this mode the fan seems to slow down but unit continues to cool. Perhaps not as cool as in cooling mode.

Naturally, I would want to run in this mode all the time to save money but if it is a bit more complicated internally I would like to know.

As noted also, manuals are in Thai but I looked for English manual online and found quite similar model in English. The manual only points it out but does not explain.

I use the non-auto cooling mode set to 26. The sleep mode is interesting but lasts only 6 hours, while I sleep for 8 hours usually. This means the machine has turned itself off 2 hours before I wake up. So it is not used that often.

    I'm ready to learn.

  14. Submaniac

I did Pattaya-Chiang Mai-Pattaya on my Cbr150. No problem at all. Also Pattaya-Ayyuhdya-Pattaya. That bike has all the power needed.

Rode a rental Honda 100 step-thru from Chiang Rai to the Lao border and back on same day. About 250Km. Flat out all day as there was little traffic. Don't know if I shortened it's life but I doubt it. :o It was a wonderful ride and I remember it as my best bike outing in Thailand! Great roads up North.

Roads around Pattaya and Bangkok are not the best. Too many heavy vehicles to pass. You get coated in diesel crap as well.

Almost every bike seat will give you a sore butt if you don't get off fairly regularly to stretch out. Hydrate. It's hot in the sun all day. This will also encourage you to stop.

Just remembered reading about a fellow who went all over Thailand on a Honda 125. This was from GT-Rider.Those step-thru seats are actually quite comfy.

Anyway, if people can bicycle thru Thailand (many have done it), a motorbike is even easier. No peddling!!

  15. If they are considering casinos as the answer to illegal gambling, this is a bad idea. :D As several posters have pointed out, there are numerous reasons why this is so.

I think that "lotto" tickets are the way to generate tax income for the state. There are no lifestyle issues connected to stopping by a vendor to spend a small amount of money in the hope of a pay-off.

But please, no SuperBall etc. payouts as is common in America and some European countries. Cap the maximum payout at a reasonably large number (+ 1 million dollars/Euros/current value in Baht) and have multiple winners every week.

And keep an eye on those vendors. In Canada there have been problems with vendors lying to customers about their tickets in order to claim for themselves the winnings. :o

  16. Argh!

Now there are Michelin(sp?) available as well? :D

NewXpat, you seem to speak from experience with the Dunlops. Can you elaborate a bit more? Have you installed them on your own machine or ridden a friend's?

Is it your opinion that the IRC tires are good? One would hope that Honda made a considered decision to equip the Cbr150 with IRC based on grip and not just lowest cost per unit. Not that I really believe that. :o

That Dunlop TT100 is a tube tire, which is why I passed on them when it was time for new rubber.

I felt that although tube-tires are tried and true, why go backwards in technology.

I was tempted though as i would rather be riding on name-brand.

It plainly says on the tire, in plain English, TUBELESS Made in Thailand. The valve stem looks like a stem for a tubless tire, too. I can only assume you were told wrong (we were originally told the CBR150 came with radials!), or Dunlop started making them in tubless since you were told.

My initial impression of the handling was an understatement. I have never noticed a more drastic improvement in handling by a tire. It rides much more smoothly, so it's not overinflated, and it just tucks in. I made four trips on the serpentine klong road, and it handles much better.

    PeaceBlondie

Both myself and a friend spent a long time(+1 year) looking for Dunlops. Many false starts including searching for "made in Japan" Dunlops.

I think we kept being shown TT900's. They were definately tube tires.

I see now you refer to TT100's.

So I am happy for you that you have found these tires. And unhappy for me, as I have about 500 kilometers on new oem IRC's. :o

Was the rear tire size available?
