  1. Went to Mitsubishi today to check my brakes. They needed replaced after only 15K, <deleted>..... spoke to the maintenance manager and he said that it was down to normal wear and tear, what a joke.... Brake pads should be good for 30 to 40K n'est pas.... 3K for replacement pads :annoyed:

Thats not even 10 K miles. Sounds like the brakes are working too hard, discs to small a diameter for the job and perhaps a soft compound pad to try and improve braking but they wear out quick. Though usually hard pads are the culprit for noise. ;)

  2. Thanks for the suggestions.

Our old Fiesta was a great car. 170,000Km and we never spent a penny on it apart from the usual oil, filter, tyres, brakes etc. It never broke down and it was pretty economical on fuel. It was also pretty lively.

Just wondering whether it isnt a bit low on the ground for Thailand though: even going from Pattaya to Jomtien is like a 4x4 off-road track at the moment, complete with water hasards.

Only thought about pick-ups because they look solid, I was told they are quite cheap and I dont need 4 seats. Dont really have anything to put in the back of a pick-up either though, apart from a take-away bowl of noodles or the occasional suitcase.

I would like to have some sort of green/economical engine type as long as that doesnt cost too much extra to buy and doesnt have too much impact on longevity and maintenance.

The reason l bought a 4x4 truck was that l could go anywhere, any conditions with no problem and if she bought smelly Lao food, it was chucked in the back :bah:, so all the boxes were ticked. I have used the 4x4 twice to get out of trouble.

Plus it's auto so very civilised to drive, even for the wee mrs. :D

  3. Wow!! Really did not mean to start a war by posting my clutch experience at the Toyota Dealer.

Pib, yes the Pilot and Throwout bearings were replaced as you, Transam and others suggested.

A visual inspection of both these bearings showed absolutely no evidence of scratches or distortion. Also ran my fingers over and around these bearings and could feel no scratches. The Pilot Bearing end of the Transmission Input Shaft, looked and felt scratch free.

Lickey, They did use a transmission jack, which they also used as a resting place for the clutch/transmission, when they got tired of manhandling it, during the removal. The only minor damage I saw, was to the metal(?) gasket around the flywheel housing where the Clutch Housing bolts to. Probably caused by the crowbars.

The only problem I have now is , it will probable take another 500 to 1000Km before I stop imagining strange sounds coming from the transmission/clutch housing, when driving off-road, far from any Toyota Dealer.

Christ, lets hope it doesn't re-appear eh .

Just hope they checked the main shaft splines for burr's and slid the new plate on the shaft to see that it moved freely before assembly.

As for disagreements here, well, we learn a lot with occasionally disagreeing with stuff, no harm done and that's what a motoring forum is for, trying to find answers. :D

  4. You might have tyre probs as probably you might have flat spots if the tyres were not over inflated for storage. Change oil and filter. Could have water in fuel tank, depends on how much diesel in tank before it was left. If me l would fill it up and then release water from the filter thingy. Your hand book will tell you how. :)

  5. Coconut,

Glad to hear you got things fixed. Stress fractures can be caused by many factors, to include metal that was not properly heat treated during manufacturer and the cracks takes years to appear just from normal usage (or they can appear early through overstress). Wasn't clear to me if you replaced the pilot and throwout bearing also (maybe I just missed it), but if it had been me I would have replaced both of these in addition to the clutch plate since pilot bearings are cheap (although they generally last a long, long time) and throw-out bearings can be prone to failure/not last longer than a clutch plate.

    Cheers,

    Pib

100% agree. Very few parts involved with clutch operation, and when you have a problem, clutch wise, it is folly not to replace the few items when it is stripped down. :)

  6. Sounds to me the inlaws have a money problem and the '' wedding '' thing is a good fund raiser hmmm.

The sum requested is daft when the in-laws know you have provided well for the wife and kids, they should be happy with that but a '' U.S.A. millionaire '', then the sum figures.

In fact the sum requested shows what they think of you, not much.

  7. Your last para !!!.

Well, l must add that when l go anywhere to do with official stuff my mrs is told, '' your husband different to most farangs, they usually dirty and smelly, he OK and gentleman '' :D.

Sooooooooooooo, perhaps you misunderstood their comments.

It's a joke son; you are way too serious today :D

My apologies, didn't see it. :)

Less of the son, l could be older than you.

  8. If the guy was a sponsor he would have this against the group name under his avatar. Yes No ?

    Just curious ? ;)

The device may be needed in somewhere like the UK where there are speed cameras every few feet but as said here

If one has the cash to splash, it seems gismo's are all the rage, as we read on these pages daily.

    Beam me up Scotty. :D

  9. Yes, it is rather pointless, because you dont really have any idea do you!

The plate HAS to free from both surfaces before gear change can be made!

The spigot bearing hasnt collapsed otherwise a severe vibration would occur, and i did tell OP how to check bearing,if the bearing was "rusted" onto the input shaft this will cause difficult box removal, and severe indentations in the alloy hsgs ect by the use of crowbars.which must be cleaned off before re-assembly or the box will shake loose.

How much easier do you want me to explain this? even the OP said he left the workshop because of the frantic shaking, and that changing gear was perfect, except for a little noise, 2nd to 1st ..

Motor Fitter, Really? what should i do then? Re-take my Volvo engine transmission Cummins engine 4.8 to 19ltr engine Perkins/Rolls Royce engine, Eaton twin Splitter gbox with twin plate and trans brake fault finding, Allison Automatic boxes , Scania 2-speed axle courses? then would i be qualified to answer tech questions?

Well no. With a list of diploma's like that, how can you use your qualifications to advise that you would put a badly fractured/cracked up centre plate BACK into service when the vehicle in question has a CLUTCH PROBLEM.

Sounds like you got your diploma's in Thailand. :)

    The End.

  11. Using them on the external filter and cooler for the oiling system of my 2332 cc Speedster engine. Push on hose would work, but proper hydraulic fittings are proper looking and can be disassembled for ease of engine removal.

Problem solved as I finally discovered that 37.5 degree AN fittings are called JM fittings in Thailand

Your right to use the stainless hose and fittings, fit and forget and easy disconnection of stuff. Very expensive in UK, l know as l used loads of it on external oil stuff and fuel lines on my ride.

Think our member hakku could be of help with you question, worth a PM. :)

  12. I agree with some of the posts on here. The guy just asked for some f******g advice, not a pisstaking session.

In answer to your question, I don't know your financial circumstances, but if it were me, in the absence of any other considerations, I would consider 50,000 baht spending money a generous amount, and I'd tell her to spend it all.

Cool, perhaps l could tag along. :D

OP, bloody stupid question really. but £100 a week perfect, unless she's going to the disco's and stuff like that so l think you should post an itinerary for a more fitting figure from different parts of the country. :)

  13. Ok Mr Apprentice, <BR> If the clutch plate was that badly cracked and distorted, how come it changed gear perfecty well, and only made a small noise on a certain hill???????????<BR><BR>It showed no signs of heat or the plate breaking up, if it was possible to take the box out YOUR way, then it still would be stuck, it was hanging up in the spigot bearing..

As on previous topics it is pointless arguing the toss with you. But, the clutch would release on disengagement on ONE surface if stuck with resistance on the splines, PERHAPS, but, I was not inside the bell housing to take notes .

Has the OP stated the spigot bearing had collapsed, or welded itself to the main shaft ?, eeeeeer no, but if it had, then would add to plate distortion.

AND, l am not a motor engineer :), just stuff from hands on experience. From this motoring topic and others you are not a motoring engineer, but a motor fitter, BIG difference, as you do not understand the basics about fixing a problem and rubbish all other input. ;)

  14. The reason po-lice go after bars is that they have a way to make money from those raids. Where is the money for them if they go after the organized mafia running the jetski violent scams?

I think it's a weekly income for the BiB, no presence needed.

  15. You ask a bunch of strangers about what to give the person you married, and planned to live with rest of your life?

Surely you got to know her and the cultural background before you married?

What would you like to have of spending (and living) money if the roles were reversed?

    ;)

    Spot on, :D,

but l must add, depends how many problems the extended family have, WHICH she will be told about on arrival.

I guess if the family come up with some sort of sudden problems, she can always say she should have known it prior to arrival, so she could have arranged for more money.

    :D

By the way, OP, if your wife wants to pay respect to the recently passed Monk, I think a million would be in order.

    ;)

Gosh, really, then l have recently passed, let her know. :).

  16. ragged hair, full beard, torn clothes, no shoes, covered in dirt and grime, and he's got this creepy thousand yard stare.

Most of these guys prefer to live this way, they're usually rich guys who just love the carefree lifestyle

Yes, I myself know many millionaires who prefer to walk around in torn clothes and no shoes smelling like they haven't had a bath in 6 months. Such a carefree lifestyle!

Where do l stand, dress like a millionaire, but not a pot to piss in.
