I thought healthcare in Thailand was supposed to be cheap?
kuma replied to Startmeup's topic in Health and Medicine
Tldr but you need to shop around here. early on in my 20 years here I used Samitivej Sukhumvit almost exclusively. But starting about 8 years ago I started shopping around as they had just relentlessly raised their prices and I was no longer willing to pay the cost. -
Aus, it is difficult at times to get answers on topic. Did you get anywhere yet with a quote? I am in central Pattaya and today had a guy measure up a space, 73sgm in total. For two types of tile ( I provide tile and grout), to go into two bed, two bath unit he quoted me 52k thb for his labour and other materials ...this includes removal of existing laminate flooring, cleaning and prep of base floor to then tile.

Well,a few years in the planning but looks like it will not happen for me on this tour, as the 13th departure from Samui was my last chance. Oh well perhaps on the next southern tour. Sure must be difficult to generate a customer base with all the hardship this project has endured. Is there laundry on board too, if one wanted to use the time to get some things clean? Good luck with getting started.

Yes given the troubled times they have faced, I am hedging re a Feb 12 departure from Samui. At least I will know if it sailed on the 9th, and then can drop in and see them live re the departure of the 12th.

Thanks will try to contact and get details. Maybe a bit too late but see how the next few weeks go. Cheers

Hey Hammer. We are on our Southern tour now, left early Jan and the ferry from Sattahip was not in service so we have been thinking about trying to take the Samui - Sattahip leg. I see here that the booking site is not 100% and that the first sail is now set as Feb 9, to Samui. What day would the return voyage to Sattahip be? We are still tripping around and will consider wrapping up on Samui and taking the service back to Sattahip if there is a solid departure date planned Cheers

Just dropped by here for an update on things as we plan to head south in Jan. Can't believe the news, there sure seems to be a dark cloud hovering over this project, one bad circumstance after another. Sorry to hear that. Looking at the proposed date of Jan 12, that will be close...we may want to depart sooner thou, so it might mean a miss for the Seahorse, though if all is going well we could always take it from Samui back to Sattahip on the back end of the trip. These days is proof of vax still a requirement, or has that finally been shelved? Hope you get back in the water.

It sure has been effective in stopping me in the 19 years I have been here. Just drink casually and I cannot count the times I thought "I feel like a beer" and went into 7/ Big C etc to buy and got turned down as it seems I always get that feeling between 14:00-17:00 lol. Some times I would find a small mini and get what I wanted, but most often just gave up and never bothered haha

Sheryl, yes thanks I was just thinking of going to get some berroca (sp?) one of those fizzy tablets with a vitamin cocktail, I will look for this one as you mention. Have air purifiers, been a staple in the house for 12+ years. I avoid the masks but did wear one yesterday while out and tbh it was beneficial, to my surprise. Pretty sure now this is anxiety at its base, seems I am having a tough run right now. Big issue is I am trying so hard to catch a breath that my stomach expands and gets like a rock, from breathing improperly I imagine. Very uncomfortable. Thanks for all the great suggestions and for spending your valuable time to reply.

Thanks very much for the insights into self treatment, the suggestion of a Dr to visit and the point about allergies. I have had this issue with shortness of breath on and off over the 20 years I have been here and it has been the case in Bkk, Chonburi and now out East here in Chan, so I think it is poor AQI over any allergy but would not hurt to check...or maybe it would hurt, these days Dr visits are not what they used to be. I for sure have a tendency to over think these things and I know that does not help matters. Will ponder making an appt to see the mentioned Dr if we get ourselves to Bkk...thanks. All is good now as the AQI subsided so that makes me think that is the driver....

Cheers will drop by our local Watsadu and see what they have in stock

Hey Steve, thanks. Actually did some looking around today and saw AJ, Midea, Aconatic and Gree units,. Did not see Hisense or Accord. Do they both have compressors and a BTU rating? I will check online for more info myself. Emptying water is a no biggie..as I say this will be an additional unit to supplement the wall mounted we have now so it will not have a big workload. Thanks for taking the time to upload the details.

Hi Sheryl. I hear you. On my list of attributes for the place we bought, air quality was high on the list. We are in Chanthaburi, which does better than almost all provinces in terms of AQI (afaik) but it still has times where it gets bad and no I do not have diagnosed asthma, more irritation and heavy breathing when exposed to bad air. I am not sure if there is anywhere else better to go in Thailand in terms of air - of course regions ebb and flow but not sure could stay on the road for two months ducking the air, lol, but I would like to. Is the Ectoin solution a good one in your opinion? I wonder if it can be had online, if it was worth it, or better to just see a local Dr and see what they offer? Have a great day

Good day, reviving this thread to see if any have comments, reviews or suggestions regarding portable air conditioners. We would like to get a single hose unit, so one that uses interior air as intake for cooling, then expelling hot air thru the hose. 8000BTU is the size I think we need, not a large space and we already have wall units, this is just additional capacity. I have seen a number of LG units, and I have had great experience with LG wall/compressor units that came with my condo a decade ago, not sure if they still make them as good as they did, or if their portables are any good. Any comment s appreciated, cheers

Good day, found this thread with great info but not active for some time. I live here in Thailand now for 20 years and have over that time often been irritated by poor air. Going thru that again now and wondering what inhaler recommendations others may have, now that some years have passed. Has anyone heard of Ectoine inhaler products here? I would like to get something that will give me relief in times of poor air quality and thanks in advance for all replies. I would go see a dr. but recent experiences have been very negative so am hesitant. Cheers enjoy the day

Exactly there was much more written material around to read, and <gasp> people actually would talk to each other as well. Struck up many an interesting conversation back in the day hiding under some roof waiting with others for the rain to pass...not so much anymore, everyone reaches for the crutch -

Thai Central Bank is buying the Baht

Good link, thanks. All looks fairly orderly, sure using some up w interventions but not Japan by any measure - Thailand seems to be financially pretty solid overall, esp vis a vis its peers, imo -
Thanks Hammer but no need to explain imo, those with genuine interest understand - it is just some w out any real background, or interest, getting some twisted sense of enjoyment lol - so be it. I for one was looking forward to the southern route, but can make this work as well, given we love to overland. In the new scenario we can ferry Sattahip to Samui, visit the island, then ferry to Surat Thani and carry on south as we so desire then return either by highway or repeat the ferry journey, nice to have options. I need a relaxation in vax requirements before we can try so will watch for that. The VIP seats are more than enough for such a short journey, you have had enough hassle til now, would not look at scrapping parking and adding berths at this point. Hope it all is smooth sailing for here on out!

Sad when a troll tries so hard and can't even hook anyone - there I threw you a sympathy acknowledgment, see if you can wring 8 replies out of it. Then take the advice of your sage handle and leave....cheers
