  1. I have a small dive compressor called a "Bauer Junior". I bought it from an outfit in Phuket called Dive Supply and I think it cost about 150,000 baht a few years ago. Its present location is a hundred km from Chiangmai but someone else may have one closer. It has been a good unit and runs of 220V household power and I can recommend them. You should be able to find them on Google.

  2. post-42103-1206440258.jpg

I have seen metal dresser couplings sold in Bangkok. These would work with the PVC pipe as the OD of the pipe that fits into the seal will be the same. Hope the little picture is good enough for you to get the idea how they work.

Just google it and you will get heaps of pictures.

  3. You have a couple of other options:

    1. Get a 4" dresser coupling and put it in line as this will give you longitudinal adjustment

    2. Use two elbows and put in a flexible hose section and bury the lot.

    3. Use four elbows and put in a small bypass type section past the broken area.

    4. Find somebody with a hot air PVC welding kit and replace the broken section.

Varying degrees of cost and difficulty and some increased line pressure which will depend on how much you are pumping.

  4. Incidently, Boksida, you really should remove the name of your cities from your picture file before posting them. It makes it a bit too easy to pick your African city. :o

    Oops! Your turn.

  5. Fascinating info Boksida. BTW what do you reckon to the chances of finding oil in Hua Hin? :o

I think some company (I forget who) did have a petroleum exploration concession offshore from Hua Hin at one time. There have been several successful water wells at the Dole pineapple plantation west of Hua Hin if that is anywhere near your place. Unfortunately there have been some unsuccessful ones in the same area as well.

  6. Technically it is possible. Quite a few wells have been drilled in the Bangkok area to depths of 600 metres. To the best of my knowledge, these have all been for industrial applications and the cost would be prohibitive for domestic supply. Typically they have 12" casing down to about 100 metres for the pump and then 8" casing to the top of the aquifer. PVC casing is obviously not an option and the steel casing-hole annulus is (or should be) cemented to surface. The water enters the well through a stainless steel screened section. Think 10,000 baht per metre for a completed pumping well of this type.

  7. That's an excellent bit of information, FG, many thanks -- and when I go shopping for the software, I'll remember to check whether it will run on my Mac! :o

I thought the Mac OS had fax functionality anyway. Found several places on the net saying:

"All mac's can fax all doc's as well as make a PDF so you can Email it. Just select file, print and in the print box select fax. your address book will open and choose you friend's info and hit fax."

I'm not a Mac user but it seemed to be a unanimous idea.

  8. moscow?

Thought of that too but I don't see Russia as having a large colonial empire in the past.....different historical story than the 'good old bossy' countries, 'confiscating' colonial countries.

England, Holland, Belgium (!), France, Spain, Portugal, even Germany (SW Africa) and Italy are countries springing to mind.

But maybe Boksida sees it different (hmmmmm 'Boksida...is that Russian ? :o )

    LaoPo

Their empire was several centuries earlier than the ones you have mentioned. Here's a clue that will solve it:

It was the second country in the world to have a communist government

  9. Foolishly but not anymore I have been showing VAT on my price quotes but am fed up with "..but I don't need a tax receipt so can you take the VAT off?"

Which of course basically means "can I have another 7% discount?"

Some local hardware shops add 7% if we request a receipt.

Now I have heard something about business to business only charging 3 or 4% or something.

    Is there a simple answer?

    Yes - simple answer.

If, for example, a business has made too much profit on their books, they will go to other business's and buy "tax invoices" to create ficticious costs so their end of year tax liability (or paper profits) is much smaller.

The general "fee" for the "ficticious" tax invoice is between 3 - 4% of the invoice value.

Quite often these types of invoices can be bought from large mom and pop wholesalers and retailers who have to create invoices to balance their stock because most of their customers pay cash and are not issued with a VAT invoice.

As a word of warning, I would not consider this very good SME business practice because you will get audited in the future & if the team of auditors find anything fishy about your paperwork they may well put your business through the wringer including showing up with a court order to confiscate your computers as well as your books. :o

    Cheers,

    Soundman. :D

I don't think this is what the OP is referring to. It is a standard and legal practice, when purchasing goods or services from an individual, a small company which falls below the VAT income level, or a company that does not supply a VAT invoice, to deduct 3% with-holding tax from their payment. You then pay this to the Revenue Department, usually with a copy of the suppliers ID card. There is an official form for this and they must be provided with a copy. Essentially you are paying the tax on their behalf and they can use the receipt as an expense if they so wish.

Common examples are house and vehicle rentals.

  10. Just because someone has BA doesn't mean that they get mega huge implants.

This is quite true. A guy I know (a TV Moderator but he won't let me use his name) got an implant in his left breast at Yanhee Hospital. It cost around 50,000 baht but apparently this included some kind of premium for only using one as they come in boxes of two. His cup size would not be any bigger than a B and I believe it it is the silicone gel type. He fondles it during his overly (IMO) frequent bouts of self gratification.

Looks kind of weird in a T shirt though.
