  1. i want to buy GPS in thailand at chiang mai but I unknow about the price now.

help suggest the price and a shop sells please. Thank

Eagle GPS in Pantip Plaza, overlooking Chang Klan Rd. on the third floor. There are many different models so you will have to go there and ask them.

  2. Correct.

Any reason why you guessed the 1st Garden City so quickly & easily ?

    Have a go Boksida.

I'm a bit of a lecher myself so it was easy (actually I just googled the name of the Estae Agents).

Has this city been in before?

  3. Fly Nok air to Udon Thani. They fly Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Then take a bus to Khon Kaen. I think it is a four hour bus ride.

Udon to Khon Kaen is about 120km so the bus ride should not be more than 1-1/2 hours. There is also a rail connection.

  4. Does anyone know of a laundry that uses hot water in CM? My jeans could definately do with a hot wash. My washing lady does a great job, but after 6 months of cold water washing my wardrobe looks like it could do with some hot water washing.

This post should be viewed with some gravity. Where I grew up, looking for laundries was what we called "wok bilong meri".

I sense this is a deeper cry of anguish from somebody who has the inability to form relationships. We are all here for you brother.

  5. They grow pineapple in the Lampang area. Go during season and you can buy a pickup load for 2 to 3 baht each.

There is also a processing plant at Lampang on the right hand side of the Chiang Mai to Lampang road coming from CM a short distance from the Phayao to Tak T intersection

Shows how long since you've been to Lampang - it's not a T junction anymore. Better direction might be just on the Chiangmai side of the bridge over the Wang River.

You should get that big motorbike down to Lampang on your next trip.

  6. I have previously owned a Thai built vacuum truck of the type commonly used to pump out septic tanks. The pump is basically a low pressure vane type compressor driven from a PTO. The pumped fluid never comes into contact with the pump as it is isolated by a float valve when the tank fills. The tank fills as the air is exhausted. By using a valve to reverse the air flow, it is emptied by blowing air back into the tank.

The driver's name is always Terdsak.

Other pumps that will handle solids are diaphragm, progressing cavity and peristaltic.

  7. I had the same problem once when I was on overseas contract for 12-1/2 months in a country that only had a Thai trade representative and no embassy. I was unable to get an extension overseas and my Permanent Residency was revoked. I had to go through the full procedure to get another one. If it is at all possible, it will be cheaper for you to make a short trip back and get another re-entry visa.

  8. Boksida we have amoungst us a great Chinese philosopher, Confuse-us. He is a Chinese Singaporean living here in Chiang Mai.

He also goes by the name of Ta22. I'm sure he would be glad to help you out when he gets back from his honeymoon.

Thanks Blinky. As it turned out, a Chinese native speaker working with a trucking company near Bangkok contacted me. He did an excellent and quick translation of a technical manual and everything was handled by email. If anybody else needs something similar, I can recommend him.

  9. You want Sodium carbonate in large quantity or just small amount?

Just a small amount. I have a motorcycle tank suffering from rust, and

want to try this electrolysis thing I've read about to remove it.

    Still haven't found it. :-(

Soda ash was easier to find, but it seems that is sodium hydroxide, rather

than sodium carbonate. Both can be used, but apperently sodium hydroxide

is dangerous for the ignorant (me).

Soda Ash is not sodium hydroxide. This is usually called Caustic Soda in English and "Soda Fai" in Thai. Available in hardware stores in 1kg packets or as "Drano" in larger stores.

  10. In the electronics shop I talked to her once. She works there. So beautiful I almost could not look at her...

I want to pursue her, but we did not even really meet - I just ask her about a Walkman.

I want to introduce myself and give her little gift. What should I buy her?

First of all, you should make discreet enquiries regarding the ownership of the shop. Once you find out, make an approach to the owner regarding the possibility of buying the business. If this guy is still carrying Walkmans in stock, I guarantee that he will accept any miserable offer to get out.

Once you are the owner, you can exercise "Droit de seigneur" and your problems are solved.

No need to thank me for this elegant solution, just pm the contact details of your soon to be ex-girlfriend.

  11. Anybody know where I can find washing soda here in chiang mai?

    Thanks,

Showing my ignorance, what is washing soda? Any difference from baking soda other than the quality and quantity that might be in the package? I have heard of using baking soda but don't remember hearing of "washing soda", pe se.

Baking Soda is Sodium Bicarbonate and Washing Soda is Sodium Carbonate.

Washing Soda is more commonly known as Soda Ash around here. One of the water treatment or swimming pool companies may be able to help you out.

  13. Thanks for the heads-up on the speed traps, that might just save me another 15 minutes :o

Any ideas what I should expect for total travel time if leaving CNX in the morning?

Sorry - I answered your last post too quickly. The best option at Tak is to stay on Hway 1. Turn right at the traffic lights just after the city centre and turn left again after crossing the river. 104 is not four lane and has some narrow bridges.

    9-10 hours?

  14. I think I'd go on Highway 32 and follow the signs to the Eastern Ring Road after Ayuthaya. Once on the ring road look for the turn off to the Bangkok-Chonburi Motorway. Should be signposted to Pattaya after that. You will hit toll gates on the ring road and the motorway.

OK, so how does this sound:

Take the 11 to Lampang, then right onto 1 (towards Tak).

At Tak, take the 104 bypass for ~27KM then re-join with 1 after crossing the river.

Take the 122 bypass around Nakorn Sawan (14KM), and re-join with 1.

25KM after Nakorn Sawan, continue straight to get onto 32.

Left onto 1, then first exit left onto 9 (Eastern Outer Ring).

Left onto 7 (Bangkok-Chon Buri motorway).

    Follow your nose from there..

Spot on. Good luck. Frequent radar traps at Km. 475 between Thoen and Tak and again between Klong Klung (Kamphaeng Phet) and Nakorn Sawan bypass.

  16. I recently screwed up & kept running the well out of water when we built our baan.

As you know it takes a ton of water for cement & 4 & 1/2 Rais of trees plants & vegetables.

I ran the pump dry & had to re-prime it 60 times or so to get the air out of the lines.

2 of the 6 liter water jugs started growing algae on the inside & unfortunately were used to restart the priming of the pump.

Although we do not use the well for drinking water, the algae is foming strips & is making watering the lawn via sprinklers dam_n near impossible. It is clogging the hose.

Is there any way to eliminate the algae? The well is 7 meters full now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks

Chlorine will usually work. I would need to have more details on the size of your well before I could suggest how much to use.
