  1. Probably due to local events of the past few days. More social media usage, more monitoring by the upper powers...

not much for conspiracy theories, but this did cross my mind.

still as i said, its just as painful on vpn.

No conspiracy theory. I for one notice my speeds degrade up until 9am, 12-13:00 and 17-19:00. Commute and lunch times.

I've also ran an internet gateway during times of heightened security, so also know the seats are staffed a bit more vigorously....

Say what you like about your VPN, it still goes through the same congested links....

  2. MODERATORS! Please escalate this post to Admins, please do not copy and paste, then close this based on the rules you have to work from!

Ads exist on more that ThaiVisa, and whilst I agree TV needs an income (and reject Ad free donations, which i have floated before) How about instead of closing EVERY ad block topic started because of "forum rules" TV takes the time to whitelist itself with the adblocker providers, and allow the users to discuss ways of the wider "every website on the planet serves ads" problem.

Seriously, something needs to evolve here. I'd like an Admin response why TV is not whitelisted with adblocking services, and why a premium subscription is not available. After all, an ad free paid for service is available on the mobile app.......

  3. From BBC Asia Online. This vid shows the suspects every move! Can see him waiting to sit with backpack on. Sitting down and removing backpack. Placing backpack on the ground. Stands up to take a pic, or give the appearance of doing so. Then leaving WITHOUT THE BACKPACK..

Stranger still...they say this is CCTV footage, but sure looks like the camera is focused on him and moves to follow him.

I'll put this one to bed. There's two reasons.

    1) The CCTV footage has been blown up and zoomed on the subject, placing him in full frame. To emulate this, place the forefinger and thumb on both hands into a square (yes, just like movie directors do) and place this over your TV - now imagine that frame as full screen. You'll get blurry and artifacted images as the video processing engine scales things up, and you'll also get a haze.

    2) Focused movement: Best way i can explain this, with that "finger square" in mind (and some modern webcams with "face tracking features" the box will move around the full frame image - giving the illusion of the camera following the subject - it's available in most video editing software.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Careful. Remember the Boston bombings where some reddit users pointed the finger at some CCTV imagery - the poor innocent lad committed suicide. Lets wait for the experts to do their thing.

  5. Too early to speculate but according to a Thai expert on BBC tonight , since the bomb was placed at the shrine it was not primarily targeting tourists , but local Thais. So it could very well be a political motive.

Not a hope , what would be the point the Junta are on the back foot , its also a massive tourist attraction

You never know. I lived in Yangon whilst the bombings happened there. They were mostly harmless, attacking public toilets, however there was one in the Traders, and once in a supermarket. Word was, "a group in control" were responsible as to vindicate their existence and justify their position of power....

    For example.

And to the Mod i PM'd, this is NOT IN ANY WAY a personal attack, i respect you, but to be frank, without an adblocker, I could not surf TV from many places (work).

    Hugs.

  7. It depends how much you really want to know.

I hope you are clued in Linux or have someone who is, as this will be my focus.

You can use something like a small computer or a Raspberry Pi to sit inbetween your switch and last hop (DSL router). Hopefully your router supports SNMP, and from that you can monitor throughput with something like MRTG.

If you want a more controlling/monitoring method, you could block all outgoing HTTP/HTTPS connections and have them all route through something like SQUID - from here you can process the access_logs and gain an idea whos doing what. Obviously the Pi will also have iptables installed, so you can log incoming connections attempts and drop them. You could even restrict how much bandwidth one device uses, if you have an issue with the network being flooded and slow....

If you have a small PC lying around, you can install something like pfSense which will give you more control and visibility - your milage may vary.
