  1. So today, Visited the property of RAMA VI in Cha Am, nice time out seeing the history of Thailand, some lovely views. Probably my only complaint would be that we had to stop far too many times for slow photographers.

Then it was a stop at Santorini - turned out to be a shopping mall theme park - thats all i can think of how to describe it....

Following that, I walked around the petting zoo Swiss Sheep Farm. Only go here if you are going for the photo opportunity..........

We drove back and got dropped at Buffalo Bills. See other post for that review.

  2. Just had lunch here. Service was good, but then again we went at a quiet period.

The food however. Probably one of the best Fish N Chips (served in newspaper!) i've had - the chips were super crispy on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside (Armadillos!) - Fish batter was lovely and crispy too, great taste, nice texture to the fish. Son had Lasagne and enjoyed it (when his face was not in his phone).

Strangely for me, also had a few glasses of Cider (draught) which really worked with the hot weather. Based on this first visit, I will recommend, and probably visit again, probably for a Sunday Roast.

Staff were friendly and efficient, toilets were clean and up to standard.

  3. Just arrived first time in Hua Hin, unpacked my Canon 450D to take out today - and it's battery has discharged. Left the charger in BKK :(

Anyone know of a shop near to Hua Hin Soi 51 where I can buy either a charger or extra better (assuming it's got some juice in).

    Cheers

  4. Well.

Hua Hin, I am inside you.

Brilliant drive down from eastern Bangkok, lovely roads and minimal traffic. I'm surprised how good the journey was compared to my other outings. It was a very pleasant 3 hours.

We checked into the hotel (Baan Talay Chine) and into a 2 room villa with private pool - the decor is lovely, clean. Cant find the tea bags though.

We also found a girls clothes left in my sons wardrobe.....I wonder how she got home without those.....

Rocked down to Coco 51, had a nice lump of salmon. Average but not bad.

Found out breakfast is served in the room - this is novel and i'm liking the idea of a private family breakfast to start the day off.

I think tomorrow is shopping and Santorini/sheep thing day, so I won't make the REQUIRED pilgrimage to the Thaivisa Lounge then, maybe in the next few days.

    So far, I'm loving it.

  5. Hi,

I'm about an hour away from driving down to Hua Hin for 5 days with the wife and teenage son. Suggest us activities and things to do in and around the area. The wife likes to take pictures of food, and i'm a beer enthusiast. Anything that will keep the boys face out of his phone will suffice.

Sensible & non troll posts only please :)

    ./P

  6. There's no USB-C in current Marbook Pro's, only in the new 12" Macbook Air.

A Macbook pro comes with 2 thunderbolt ports, 2 usb3 ports and a HDMI port. I've had mine 2 years and never had the need for a DVD drive.....

Those USB-C accessories are not actually listed in the apple store for the Macbook Pro...

  7. 44,000 to 55,000 baht for a 12 inch , expensive.

i have to agree with the comment. For 43k you get 2.7GHz cpu speed, 8 gb Ram processor and 128gb memory. dam expensive

The newest models are not in thailand and they dont know when it will arrive. maybe November....

Try to make a random other A-brand laptop last 7 years.

From my experience Apple lasts about twice as long or more and the amount of time spent on maintenance and problem solving is about 10% of what I used to spend on windows laptops. When I switched to Apple 9 years ago it was windows XP on a Dell that I left. But if I look in our office and see how much time the IT guys spend on the windows users I don't think much changed.

This. My original March 2006 macbook is still going strong in the hands of my brother. Sure we pay the Apple Tax, but the hardware quality is superb.

  8. Just want to add, subbed this morning for F1, streamed for 5 odd hours with no buffering on True, and surprisingly it's far higher quality than Sky's official SkyGo service (In the UK).

    Would recommend, i guess.

  9. A USB key may not be able to Read/Write fast enough for recording and you might experience freezing and long waits when rewinding or fast-forwarding.

I would buy a fast Hard Drive and a Hard Drive enclosure that plugs into your USB port.

    This.

My Samsung tests all devices for R/W speed before allowing them to be formatted and recorded to. Most USB sticks failed, Magnetic media always passed.

You'll need a lot more than 64GB too.

  10. It'll probably turn up in the hands of "Brother Orange" at some point :)

But seriously, use FMIP or on android something like PreyProject (which as mentioned, can take pictures etc. It will also work on tablets and laptops, so as with having so many light fingered friends, install an anti theft mechanism immediately if you don't have already.

  11. 12DrinkMore hit the nail on the head by the way.

Bees in the outer layer thrust their abdomens 90° in an upward direction and shake them in a synchronous way. This may be accompanied by stroking of the wings. The signal is transmitted to nearby workers that also adopt the posture, thus creating a visible — and audible — "ripple" effect across the face of the comb, in an almost identical manner to an audience wave at a crowded stadium.

    I see this frequently....

  12. This saddens me. I lived in and around the area for 11 years, could eat most stuff. Spent a year back home, came back and now my chilli tolerance is gone :(

Not even one little green one in a pad ka pow - too hot for me :( it's pee'd me off a little bit as i love the flavour.

  13. You'll be looking around $700 USD for a 768GB SSD upgrade (part only).

I have the same laptop - I always maintain about 60GB free by having least accessed stuff on a 2TB USB3 drive - I mean, you're not going to be playing music or watching movies all the time. I also have an /Applications folder on there for some of my larger apps - luckily spotlight can launch these no problem.

  14. Depends which card and what games. Arms 3s' engine uses a lot of CPU along with the GPU. depends what spec your desktop is, I got good milage with a core2quad and a 660ti. What card are you thinking of getting?

  15. Saigon is a lovely place to live, I did so for about a year. The missus and son liked it too. I tend to class it as somewhere in-between Thailand and Myanmar..

You'll probably want to look at places around District 7, I lived a little nearer central HCM in District 4. There's a nice big supermarket/shopping centre there.

I paid a grand USD for my place, but it was a nice penthouse with lovely views.
