  1. Just back from BigC and noted that the large bottles are now 52 (prev 48) and the small 32 (prev 28). Possibly someone did not feel that 3.5% was generating enough duty/tax so suggested the increase. For the moment it does not affect me as the local wholesalers supplying the bars seem to have adequate stock of the old gear.

I have tried contacting Boown Rawd in the past via email with no response what so ever, however when I could get no response from the email I went to their Facebook page and sent a message there, I got a response in a day or so.

    Well what was the response??

The chinese find them a tasty snack.........:cheesy:

They are a delicacy to Thais (possibly not the Hi-So types).

Rat meat is currently 140 baht a kilo

    So I am told anyway.

It's getting expensive here in BKK , some food and drink prices are more expensive that the US, as for the future I can see a lot of empty condos up for sale.

You have a point about prices in Bangkok but this has always been true.

Likewise people have always been seeing lots of empty condos up for sale.........in the future. i have been waiting a long time to see this.

  5. Ha Ha about as interested as they are in Sleepers Hill.

Your first post on here for a while, you must need a rest.

I always knew about St Domingo Methodist but never knew it was on Breckfield Rd or the location. Don't think many did. Everton's history is interesting but a bit confusing.

    The Everton Quiz

    1. What was the original name of Everton Football Club?

     St. Domingos

     St. Dominics

     St. Dominican

     St. Dominiques

I think the original name was St. Domingo (no s), as they were from St Domingo New Connexion Methodist Church. It was not named after a Saint but for the location, which was on Breckfield Road North between St Domingo Grove and St Domingo Vale. St Domingo was a part of Everton named after either (a) a ship that sank in the Mersey, or, (b) the Island of Santo Domingo, a place that a wealthy local merchant did much trade with. I have heard both stories.

In 1895 St Domingo became a city council ward and one of the first Councillors was John Houlding. A few years later he was made Lord Mayor of Liverpool.

    In case anybody is interested.

Having 5 shandys has less impact than 5 full strengths.

    It's not rocket science.

If you mean 1 litre of beer  plus 1 litre of sprite/whatever is weaker than 2 litres of beer, that is self-evident and does not require stating.

Your statement that "People drink until they are full" is at best ambiguous and certainly inaccurate.

"Full" meaning inebriated, as in Scotland or Ireland.? People do not always drink until inebriated.

"Full" meaning no room for more.? I have no experience of everybody drinking until bloated.

Takes longer to drink if greater volume which slows the absorption.

Which may help you drink less beer. If you still drink the same number of beers it means you still consume the same volume of alcohol.

Any further sightings of the 4.5 abv?? Or is this just a wind-up??

Charming. You must make friends wherever you go.

Before you accuse someone of being ignorant, I'd suggest checking your posts for grammar, spelling and punctuation.

His punctuation seems reasonably on the mark to me, but I am ready to stand corrected.

If this forum is any guide, after more than a century (I think) of compulsory free education, standards of literacy are abysmal. People seem proud of a lack of ability to spell properly. Not commenting on your mate here, just a general observation.

We are being slowly taken over by the "could of / should of / would of" brigade.

I know exactly where it is, my knowledge of Nakhon Sawan is quite good, I was a teacher at Satri Nakhon Sawan school about 2 Ks from the bank up near Big C.

In case it is of interest there is a shop up Dawadeong by the Thai Hotel selling a range of pies, teabags and the like. Still in the process of opening so not yet fully sorted.

I was not told by anybody, I have read in Thaivisa a few times over the years, did I say the maximum age was sixty? I could not have as the poster who I was answering is sixty three, I would assume that in most cases it would be seventy.

I could try the Nakhon Sawan branch out of curiosity as I live near there. Now which bank, and which branch?

My post ID 237 quotes you as saying that you were told the maximum age was 60.

As the original bank discussed was the Bangkok Bank it is they to whom I refer.

The branch is on Sawanvittee Road on the LHS about a minute after Fairyland, opp V Square and the Vitteethep Hotel. Friendly bunch, but a Thai speaker accompanying you also helps. If your knowledge of NS is limited let me know.

I think when you say that Pattaya is dead because the bars are bereft of visitors and the girls are complaining that that does not necessarily mean Pattaya is quiet.  It is more likely that there has been a shift in the profile of visitors with more Chinese, Indians, Russians and even families who aren't interested in the bars beyond walking up and down Walking Street and getting the obligatory selfie, a shot of a ladyboy and a few snaps for Facebook.

Yes the streets are busy because all that those people seem to do is mooch about and seem reluctant to spend very much at all. Apart from a few high-end ones among them.

But you are right, a very strong change in demographics.

Different banks and branches make up their own rules.

So when you were told (and believed) that the max. age was sixty were you told that this was all branches or just some.

    Try the Nakhon Sawan branch.

  14. Cycling in Bangkok is potentially dangerous, that is why you do not see many people doing it. The OP does it because he is short of money. Add this to living in Bangkok with a family who are dependent on you, on a very limited (or non-existent) income, without insurance or adequate financial resources and you have a recipe for disaster. Sooner or later it will bite you on the bum.

He plays down the fact that he was unconscious for more than 2 hours and that fortunately to date there appear to be no effects. He does not realise his good fortune. If there had been a problem and they had not done the scan / x-rays promptly he would have been screaming very loudly indeed.

He says that his (part-time) job finished in February so presumably he had a wage at the end of Feb (6 or 7 weeks ago). In the meantime his daughter's school fees have cleaned him out, did he not have anything put aside to pay them?? Must have been a well paying part time job if you can pay school fees out of your monthly wage.

I wonder how long he has been here as he seems to have only just discovered (a) that foreigners tend to be discriminated against and (b) The Bumrungrad is primarily a business.

I sympathise with his bad luck and his shock at receiving a bill for 54,000, but feel that he sleepwalked his way into this.

If he had had proper insurance this would never have been an issue.
