  1. Anybody ever tried Dwyer's Cream Bitter. Bit cheaper than most, I had a pint in the Black Swan for 180. Not sure if that is a happy hour price and not sure of the %abv as they are not a very communicative bunch. Tasted fine anyway.

Alcohol is bad for you! That's why I never touch it. If you need alcohol to relax and enjoy yourself, I feel sorry for you.

If you can not contribute a sensible post please do not post.

You are probably sitting there telling yourself what a clever, witty, wind-up merchant you are. Sorry but you are a predictable, repetitive, tiresome bore. Time you were banned.

One just assumed that choosing to live in Pot hole city, and staying at the Get It Here hotel Soi Post office, that in an earlier life you might have stayed at the Hotel Miramar Torremolinos.

H/M shall be on his way down to BKK via N/Smog on the 29th. Shall endeavour to update all on how the roads are going. Don't hold up to much hope there will be any improvement though, as last time a few weeks ago they were still the pits.

    H/M K.P.Phet.

    Fred to locals.

No, Torremolinos is a place I missed. As well as the package flight sombrero scene. Bit late now I suppose, ah well.

I can't help but wonder what happens to the horses when you go away for days on end. Do you tether them to the caravan, or are you on a permanent site where they have proper facilities for them? Takes the romance out of sitting round the campfire of an evening I suppose. But then everything is different these days, the arse must have fallen out of the clothing peg business decades ago and fortune telling seems to be done online now.

I might just follow your lead and spend more time around Soi Bukhao when I go next week. 65 baht for a large one makes more sense than 80 or 90 fora small one in Yamato.

I must notify my friend. In her two million dollar plus house in Australia the other day I saw she had four Berri Estate casks in the pantry... it probably doesn't win any awards but you see it at barbecues all the time.

I didvnot say that I agreed with it. Never having been to Australia I know nowt about it. Something I read gave me the impression that this was the standard opinion there.

Like I said it was fine by me, fine enough to pass on to our friend who was asking for recommendations.

Mont Clair I cannot anymore... Any other box that is acceptable ?!

A bar I used to go to had Berri Estates boxes and I thought the red was fine. Apparently in Australia it is regarded as only fit for homeless alcoholics, but very acceptable to our crew.

And you have the audacity to have a go at H/M.

Soi Post office and Soi Yamato very down market. That's really is hitting cliff's. Or should that be pits.

I think even my G/L would throw a wobbler at those places.

    Fred to the locals.

Ha Ha, I am sure you meant to say "top value, characterful accommodation in low-traffic sois adjacent to the seafront of this major, internationally renowned, S E Asia resort."

But it is true that it might not impress the ladies.

Anyway, not having a go at all. I just imagined that you would be taking tea and discussing world affairs with Naam. I am impressed with your egalitarianism.

    Worth mentioning the rates:

    5 Baht to fixed line

    7 Baht to mobile

009 (CAT) has the same rates.

    Dial

    004 44 .... to UK (44).

    004 44 20 ... London

KB I apologise for changing the subject but do you know how I can get a list of costs/ charges. I don't use my samsung /dtac much but my top ups seem to be swallowed within 24 hours. They can produce a log and give a balance efficiently, can they not give a breakdown of where the money has gone??

Sorry for picking on you but you seem to know what is going on.

Sutus court 1 also has good parking some under cover. Helps keep the Pattaya dust and crap off the Limo. Cant be any more noisy or smoky than the Dolphin R/B. Going up nearer 2nd road must admit a trite loud but H/M keeps well away from that end.

Once passed Soi Len key all seems to be normal. Well as normal as Pattaya can be.

Then again H/M isn't as sedate as some I could mention. That could be the deciding thing.

G/L sends her regards to both of you.

    H/M K.P.P

    Fred to locals.

Well another illusion shattered, H/M K.P.P. not only stays in Soi Bukhao and drinks there but is brazen about it. I suppose he finds itconvenient for Pooks.

Must go and find another role model.

A Kleenex is a brand.  But most people ask for a Kleenex, not a facial tissue.

Most people refer to it as a retirement visa. Even at Immigration. Actually if someone does not know what a "Retirement Visa" is, they are the ones not well schooled.

It's common knowledge, if one has common sense.

Many of the people I know are here on extension of stay, when the subject vomes up people usually say they are "on retirement" or on "marriage ".

You are fortunate to be blessed with so much common sense, you could possibly pass some on to ubonjoe as he has told somany people there is no such thing as a retirement visa. Tjink of how much time and effort you could save him.

Sure...technically, it is a one year extension of a non O visa...but for convenience everybody uses the term retirement visa, starting with those who advertise for them.

Can you imagine the confusion if they came up with something like "non O extension, no money blah blah blah".

There are different kinds of non O extensions, thus the word retirement helps differentiate this specific extension from the others.

Not wishing to sound snotty or smartarsed but in my experience the only people who speak of a "retirement visa" are people who don't know anythingabything about visas, and will also refer to a visa exempt as a visa on arrival.

The subject of visas can get very complicated, very quickly so it is wiser to use the correct terminology from the start.

I am lost as to the "no money blah blah" bit.

I don't understand how you can jump to this conclusion?

I was refering to a theoretical example, using the word  "someone", and that someone is not me, at least for 2 reasons: I am not retired, and I have a Thai family and the visa that goes with my situation, which is not a retirement visa.

I started this thread out of curiosity, because I was surprised with the bluntness of the ads for retirement visas...it seems to me that some years ago these kinds of practices were handled with a bit more discretion...

There is no such thing as a retirement visa.

Rats are everywhere. The illusion of hygiene in supermarkets and posh hotels is just that: an illusion. Supermarkets are for smuchs and brain washed westerners who are not well travelled or experienced and need the comfort and illusion of home.

KDoes that include the thais who outnumber me by about 50-1 every time I go to BigC. And much more than that in Tesco. Both being closer than the local markets.
