Liverpool..."Bloody hell, we're really letting English sides down in Europe so far this year!"
Everton..."Hold my beer!"
BTW...the lesser spotted Allan played the full 90 for Apollon and looked good.
At the minute I can only say i am very happy that I do not still live in Liverpool and have to go in and work with #@%&s (warm-hearted, humorous types) like you in the morning. :)

Sensible comparisons between Thailand and nearby SE Asia countries are inevitable and can be informative. The grass frequently seems greener elsewhere so some hard information and contrasting experiences and viewpoints are useful. Please keep it coming re the PI, and try and specify locations helps if they are not all Angeles.

Thats Amasing that u think about some silly bit of alcohol on the most stressfull days in years in Thailand
the king is being cremated no a beach Party
if you are so conserned that you will be dry then stock up 2 weeks before if you have guests explain then that the king is being cremated
this man was one of the most respected man in thailand loved by all i guess y have no respect just a tipical farang complains about all here .
Alcohol and entertainment are multi-multi billion dollar worldwide industries, major employers of labour and major sources of tax/duty/revenue collection for governments.
In no other country are they subject to such arbitrary interference with their operations as they are here.
A bit more than "some silly bit of alcohol" which is a cheap, sanctimonious comment from somebody who presumably does not drink.
I presume you are not a Native English Speaker.

Are you sure? The article is about beer and spirits not imported whine...
My favourite bar in town charges 90Tb a small bottle, so about £4 a pint (it costs more if you want to watch dancing girls).
In the UK, not known for cheap booze, I pay about £3.50 for a pint of larger in the pub.
In the shops and out of town bars here it is cheaper, 200Tb for 3 large bottles in many music bars, and 7/elevens and supermarkets a large bottle of beer is about 55-60Tb, much the same as the UK.
My brand of ciggy went up today to 100Tb from 87Tb. Price rises on beer is expected to go up about 2Tb on a small can or small bottle.
So GBP3.50 for a pint of "larger" is the same as THB55-60 for a 620 ml bottle. Hmmm never used to be. in my local small town bars it is still THB70-80 for 620 ml.

I repeat there is a difference between to and too. But increasingly it seems that not a lot of people know this.

To clarify I am referring to the SGOT (AST) & SGPT(ALT) tests. Kidney function tests fall into a similar range.
-
I am curious about the above, the normal parameters are 5 - 40. I am generally up to 25 and a month off the beer will bring this down to 16/18.
I am wondering what level indicates the start of cirrhosis and what it could eventually rise to.
I have been a lifelong "social" drinker and I am surprised that my test levels are aways within the safe limits.

Businesses work on minimum target margin, not absolute numbers
Price before 500, margin 30% = final price 650
Increase of 100 to 600 =/ final price 750 but 600 *1.3 = 780
Since they like to use round numbers this usually translates to 800
What something should be and what people make of it are two different things
Minimum target margin not absolute numbers.
What kind of talk is this?? Never heard the like.
But I do know the difference between a mark-up and a margin.

Sorry but San Miguel in Manila tasted as good as San Miguel here..your generalized comments are uneducated drival... I lived in Vietnam also..bar beer was not 10 baht.. Tiger for example was about 85 to 100 baht
Tiger is not a Vietnamese beer, so a bit of a pomtless comparison. Be about 6 or 7 years since I was there and there were at least 6 different local beers, some very cheap some not so but all drinkable. The north is supposedto have betterprices and choice.

Why is the duty increase so much less on cans?
Good question. Doubt if anyone has an answert though. Possibly the least logical part of an illogical act.

Right on, dude!
Can't remember the last time I had a beer in the fridge as I never drink in the house, at home I would rather have a cup of tea.
Seems strange to me to see people going on about shop prices and case prices, in my mind drinking is a social event for pubs, bars restaurants etc.

The way I read it based on volume a beer at .375l x .05 alcohol x 420baht = 7.87 baht per bottle (small) I dont understand however if they intend that, plus 22% of retail value.
Either way I'm sure the local and ferlang bar owners will be hiking their price by far more and blaming the tax hike!
EDIT just re read it and it appears its both! Might be something like 40 baht x 22% plus 7.87 baht for the volume = 16.67 Baht tax!
I am confused, which Thai beer comes in .375l quantity and which is .05 abv.??

Just back from BigC, no price changes yet. But the alcohol section has signs all over in Thai with the number 12 prominent. Whatever that means.
The two drinks wholesalers I passed on the way were both closed.

Small Singha Light was 32 baht, now 45 baht in 7/11, about 40% increase
A box was about 780 baht so assume now about1035 baht
I suspect they have possibly mnade a mistake.
No point drinking it anyway since it was changed from 3.5% abv to 4.5.

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to your pedantic post, lost track of the thread.
Make that serious boozers then, people who enjoy a session in the company of like-minded others. If you ever went to Jools you will understand.
Of course serious drinkers will be just as happy putting Chang and Blend away on their own staring at their own four walls so I sort of accept that you may have a point.
Soi 33 now? Must gve it a go, any feedback??

Update on Visa office K.P.K.PHET today the 30th Aug:
Right gave them another try today. On going in met up with a Swiss chum.
He was there to do his one year renewal retirement visa.
He had gone on Friday but as usual they couldn't do. Went again on Monday told to come back today. By this time he had an over stay. Even though it wasn't his fault they made him pay the overstay. Good game what.
Right what happened to H/M well on arrival 9.40am had all the documents required as per list they gave me Monday.
Seems not good enough wanted copies of all pages in old passport. This was done by to shop next door 40bt.
It got to 11.45am and was told to come back at 1pm. (Lunch) As we marched out they wanted to take snaps of us all doing a thumbs up on how pleased we were with the service. I refused.
Arrived back early and was first in line. It then took the officer another 1.5 hours to do visa change. 10 min: job That's because he hadn't done one before. "Very nice chap anyway"
While he was looking at all the copies he said he didn't want any that I had done at shop next door for 40bt. Eventually finished 2.40pm.
N/B seems that the shop is run by the wife/lady friend of passport checker that wanted all the extra copies. Good game these con artists that work there.
If I had the Email address of Visa head office would send them an email on how bad things are there. Would be obliged if anyone has same.
Give the place a wide berth if you can go elsewhere.
H/M K.P.PHET
Fred to locals.
Unbelievable.
Dirty twopence ha'penny scamming gits. Could be worse we could be as brain dead bent as them/him.

Thanksto all for the clarification.

A friend will be making 4 trips here of approx 28 days with approx 14 days home (UK) between each trip, August to January.
I understand (I think) that this will be OK on visa exempts, but if he repeats this pattern over the following 6 months will that still be OK or will he be told to get a Non O /Retirement extension or whatever.??
Thanks for any advice that can be given.

I would say that 90 baht a small (320 ml) bottle in downtown Bangkok is cheap. Last week in Asoke I paid 130. But it is still possible to get a pint of local draught for 120 or less. Central Bangkok has always been pricey, reflecting rents, wages and a profit motive. These are businesses with a fair bit of investment, not a Pattaya beer bar.
