  1. That's the real cause there; if police did their job the rest of the year there would be no need to award them an overtime bonanza for looking at their phones all day whilst ignoring traffic offences ten yards away.
  2. I can't see the rush is necessary. 5 days under 180 feet of water leaves not much hope of survival.
  3. RTP making another procedural mistake! (They did it with the Red Bull brat Interpol application too.)
  4. I don't know what's brought on this diatribe. I stick by my original mild comment that I thought the Jacko's comment was witty/funny. I studied cancer by watching both my parents die of it but I can still appreciated wit about the topic.
  5. I got the word cure from the media headline in this thread - 'Deputy PM Somsak makes false claim over cancer cure'. This is where I get all my information as I cannot read written Thai nor understand spoken Thai sufficiently well. How do you get to your conjectural comment 'More likely he said something like help them live with cancer but par for the course on this forum, and the media, to distort the context to suit the agenda.'
  6. What's the meaning of the phrase 'Clutch at straws'? Try any route to get out of a desperate situation, no matter how unlikely it is to succeed. So the (new) Minister for Medicine posts a dubious claim that papaya can cure cancer on TV presumably whilst being paid appearance money (in a desperate attempt to justify his promotion?) What's wrong with bringing in reference to cannabis which is also supposedly good for cancer?
  7. 'Pattaya Police Intensify Inspections Ahead of New Year Celebrations' to clear space for a busy week spent staring at their phones whilst ignoring the myriad of traffic offences a few yards away. Did I mention overtime pay?
  8. All new luxury car orders should be completed before the end of January 2024.
  9. Do you want me to explain the idiom 'clutching at straws'?
  10. AKA as a further excuse to pay police overtime for playing on their phones whilst ignoring the myriad of traffic offences yards away.
  11. I thought it was clever and funny. 'Deputy Prime Minister Somsak Thepsuthin has suggested, on a television programme' for which he was paid?
  12. 'Yingluck Patiently Awaits Homecoming In Thaksin’s Style' - there'll be a hospital bed free anytime soon where you can wait as a patient.
  13. The National motto of Thailand - 'Me First'. Check out the log-jams of traffic at EVERY Railway Road junction as braindead Thais move into a yard of free space without considering the consequences. During rush-hour (four till seven pm) every junction needs a traffic cop to help with the flow; YET they don't work after 3.30.
  14. The police will ONLY investigate incidents that make the mass media.
  15. The only time you see a cop when they are in celebration mood; here they are taking credit for Xmas to cover their inaction during the rest of the year. Drove over 300 kms during the holiday. I did not see ONE cop in Pattaya and Bangkok. I saw three ambulances though.
  16. 'Government Destroys Record Narcotics Haul' allegedly. If a Cabinet minister can't tell Self-raising flour from heroin how do we know what is being burnt?
  17. Is corruption built in to the Thai concept? Is Nepotism part of the Thai model? Health & Safety? I thought not.
  18. 'Insanity Is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results'. Health and Safety will never catch on here. In nearly 20 years here I get déja vu several times a year; drought or flood; road repairs repeated; corruption scandals discovered (and sometimes prosecuted) and in this case ships sinking with unerring regularity. Do Thais never learn from their recent history?
  19. Lots of Thais are outright nasty people and there are more of them hence the gang fights; motor-cycle drivers 'protecting their patch; school v school (a teacher was shot dead last week); frequent beatings of tourists by 'Security' gangs. Take off your rose-coloured spectacles and view Thailand as it really is.
  20. Was your sense of humour surgically removed at birth or is it a genetic thing?
  21. Enables redlight runners/the helmetless to escape scrutiny by 'observant' cops glued to the CCTV screen!
  22. A picturesque shopping mall that charges for admission.
  23. If only that were true and courts could be relied on. Yet another area of Thai life riddled with corruption; is it genetic or learned behaviour?
