  1. Good on him for trying to change the status quo.

And when the options are so dry, stale and similar, he stands a good chance of gettng a decent handful of seat...if..if he can come up with some sound policies and at the moment that is the void in his grand plan.

So add some substance to the sound bites and spin and he will hopefully be on to something

There was a story right here on thai visa a couple of days ago.

2 poachers caught. 16 elephants tails and some tusks. The tails are to be sold as keyrings.

The other poacher caught had a bag full of bear parts, taking to sell to be made into Chinese medicine. But BP so can't do that. The original story had wichian talking about the villagers poaching right here on thai visa.

I don't know how to link.

    I don't want to know.

The fact remains this is a high profile case given his position in society and therefore the public are more interested. Which sells more papers or get more clicks.

I am sure poor old premchai being a business man understands that relationship..as the old adage goes all publicity is good publicity. Although he probably disagrees with it now.

And Thai rangers are pretty solid on poachers. Perhaps premchai would have prefered this outcome.

    I could go on.

The Thai rangers are a fairly solid bunch.

How can it be Thailand's fault when people have accidents?

But too many foreigners just rent bikes without even having a license or practice driving on one.

Sorry to paraphrase and take some of your post out of context.

If it is common knowledge that bikes are being rented out to people (tourists) without licenses then that is an issue that Thailand needs to tackle. The people renting are only interested in the money and take no responsibility for their role.

The people and companies allowing the renting of motorbikes without licenses need to be brought to book. If AVIS or BUDGET or another vehicle rental company knowingly allowed a person to rent a vehicle without holding a proper license, the local police would throw the book at them. Why? Because they knowingly played a role in the ensuing accident by being negligent and did not check the person renting the vehicle was capable of controlling the vehicle.

So their is a responsibility on Thailand's part to ensure that people renting the bikes are capable of controlling them.

This is stuff is rough. On the one hand, this guy a total moron for not taking out travel insurance. On the other hand, you can't help but feel bad this guy's family. I try and imagine something like this happening to one of my brothers. I'd also try and do everything in my power to get them the help they need... I'd use my own money for sure. If that's not enough? Beg for money online maybe?

And as is always the case, hiring a motorbike is often not covered by any travel insurance.

There is clearly an issue here when the hiring of motorbikes is so completely unregulated and also so widespread. The tourists need to make sure that they are covered in the event of an accident, but as this is (albeit a small part) of the very lucrative tourist industry that drives Thailand's development, there needs to be some provision for medical bills incurred by tourists through local regulation and laws. .

You cannot take someone's money and then wash your hands of any and all responsibility when things go wrong. Motorbike hires must come with compulsory (local) insurance for all, including medical bills. And if motorbikes are hired without insurance then the owner of the motorbike needs to be liable for any costs in the event of an accident. After all they hire the motorbikes to get profit, so they need to make sure the motorbikes are insured and protect their clients and also property.

And if people complain that the cost of a daily hire goes from 200 to 400 baht a day, probably best not to hire one then!

So let me get this straight.. he can't run in an election.

So he can't be elected as a PM in the normal way (meaning running in an election collecting votes), but can only be appointed a PM by the senate as an outside PM.

This is bad, I would have wanted him to run at least then he would see how much people liked him (not that much IMHO).

Now it looks like its 100% sure he will return as an appointed PM.

Surely though policy  need to be voted through in order to be transposed into law.

So an outsider PM (probably quite unpopular with some potentially large factions of the parliament) will need a parliamentary majority to effectively run the country and pass laws, otherwise he will be a lame duck PM whose policy is consistently voted down?? right??
