" a meth-taking driver who was speeding beyond the 60km/hour legal limit while driving on winding downhill road."
Maybe this could be marketed by TAT for all the adrenaline junkies around the world as a new tourist activity for the young, stupid and adventurous.

Sorry but this sounds a bit well fake.
Aren't all Thai government schools closed and have been for a good few weeks?? And most government schools do not actually require foreign staff to stay during the long holiday. So how were these teachers caught...when then were not teaching??
And given the nationalities of those arrested they do not seem to be those which Thai school directors would want to employ as teachers.
Sorry but this story is fake - some overstayers have been arrested and the rest is just complete turd.

What utter codswallop - The law does not allow for such ludicrous punishments
Rape is punishable by a maximum of 10 years and a fine of 20'000 baht. So the dear police general is simply making up punishments.

The bloke in the Altis should surely be commended!
He is simply replanting and repopulating Thailand's national plant plasticus thailandus.

I love what Rachen had to say about Prayut's cabinets ministers -
"But I would only support him (prayut). I won’t support any of his minions.”
So there it is officially from a supporter and party insider- Prawit and Co are minions!!! Which would mean by extension.......Prayut must be Gru??

"Some groups try to create choas"
What utter twaddle - unless of course you see freedom of speech, the right to assembly, and the right to be heard as "chaos".
Chaos is defined by the NCPO as anything that cannot be controlled or prescribed by them and that includes what and how people think. ...actually come to think of it from their perspective they may actually be right?

Good on him for trying to change the status quo.
And when the options are so dry, stale and similar, he stands a good chance of gettng a decent handful of seat...if..if he can come up with some sound policies and at the moment that is the void in his grand plan.
So add some substance to the sound bites and spin and he will hopefully be on to something

A truly tragic and avoidable loss of life.
Whilst the regulations and safety record of government run coaches has improved over the past ten years. Sadly private rentals lag very far behind with very little oversight or regulatory framework . I am stunned that yesterday 18 people died and 50 more were injured in two seperate coach accidents.

There was a story right here on thai visa a couple of days ago.
2 poachers caught. 16 elephants tails and some tusks. The tails are to be sold as keyrings.
The other poacher caught had a bag full of bear parts, taking to sell to be made into Chinese medicine. But BP so can't do that. The original story had wichian talking about the villagers poaching right here on thai visa.
I don't know how to link.
I don't want to know.
The fact remains this is a high profile case given his position in society and therefore the public are more interested. Which sells more papers or get more clicks.
I am sure poor old premchai being a business man understands that relationship..as the old adage goes all publicity is good publicity. Although he probably disagrees with it now.
And Thai rangers are pretty solid on poachers. Perhaps premchai would have prefered this outcome.

or this
or this
I could go on.
The Thai rangers are a fairly solid bunch.

Given the numbers already confirmed to have been thieving, that looks unlikely.
Shouldn't be surprised. Thailand is built on a social hierarchy - Those doing the thieving are the betters of those they are stealing from. And those being stolen from should be grateful for any crumbs which drop from the table. Even if the pie was meant for them!
How often have do we see the phrases "gift to the people", "return happiness to the people" used in political circles, to reinforce the view that the masses should be in admiration for the mercies and help bestowed by those from higher up the social ladder.

I would imagine rosters will be next to be registered as the locals are quite fond of an old cock fight. And as for the gambling that goes on every sunday afternoon over a few bottles of Leo while muay thai is on TV.
And the powers that be register dartboards!!

How can it be Thailand's fault when people have accidents?
But too many foreigners just rent bikes without even having a license or practice driving on one.
Sorry to paraphrase and take some of your post out of context.
If it is common knowledge that bikes are being rented out to people (tourists) without licenses then that is an issue that Thailand needs to tackle. The people renting are only interested in the money and take no responsibility for their role.
The people and companies allowing the renting of motorbikes without licenses need to be brought to book. If AVIS or BUDGET or another vehicle rental company knowingly allowed a person to rent a vehicle without holding a proper license, the local police would throw the book at them. Why? Because they knowingly played a role in the ensuing accident by being negligent and did not check the person renting the vehicle was capable of controlling the vehicle.
So their is a responsibility on Thailand's part to ensure that people renting the bikes are capable of controlling them.

This is stuff is rough. On the one hand, this guy a total moron for not taking out travel insurance. On the other hand, you can't help but feel bad this guy's family. I try and imagine something like this happening to one of my brothers. I'd also try and do everything in my power to get them the help they need... I'd use my own money for sure. If that's not enough? Beg for money online maybe?
And as is always the case, hiring a motorbike is often not covered by any travel insurance.
There is clearly an issue here when the hiring of motorbikes is so completely unregulated and also so widespread. The tourists need to make sure that they are covered in the event of an accident, but as this is (albeit a small part) of the very lucrative tourist industry that drives Thailand's development, there needs to be some provision for medical bills incurred by tourists through local regulation and laws. .
You cannot take someone's money and then wash your hands of any and all responsibility when things go wrong. Motorbike hires must come with compulsory (local) insurance for all, including medical bills. And if motorbikes are hired without insurance then the owner of the motorbike needs to be liable for any costs in the event of an accident. After all they hire the motorbikes to get profit, so they need to make sure the motorbikes are insured and protect their clients and also property.
And if people complain that the cost of a daily hire goes from 200 to 400 baht a day, probably best not to hire one then!

Judging by the state of the property probably not.

So let me get this straight.. he can't run in an election.
So he can't be elected as a PM in the normal way (meaning running in an election collecting votes), but can only be appointed a PM by the senate as an outside PM.
This is bad, I would have wanted him to run at least then he would see how much people liked him (not that much IMHO).
Now it looks like its 100% sure he will return as an appointed PM.
Surely though policy need to be voted through in order to be transposed into law.
So an outsider PM (probably quite unpopular with some potentially large factions of the parliament) will need a parliamentary majority to effectively run the country and pass laws, otherwise he will be a lame duck PM whose policy is consistently voted down?? right??

DPM Prawit bares all about the wristwatch controversy

I tried the same and got three hits - all of which relate to this article.
Odd that he leaves no electronic trail being so rich??
Doesn't even appear in the top 50 of Thailand's forbes list for 2014. (2014 chosen as he should be alive then...if he existed that is). Forbes thailand billionaires
So I wonder what business he was in? That needs to be the next question.
