  1. Bangkok Airways to sell 730m shares

    Mon, June 03, 2013 12:00 AM

Bangkok Airways plans to sell its shares through the Stock Exchange of Thailand next month in a partial divestiture that will end its 45-year full private ownership.

Capt Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, the airline's president, said the company plans to offer 730 million new shares in an initial public offering.

Most of the proceeds will be used to support the company's growth plan including a new hangar, fleet expansion and IT system upgrade.

Earlier, the full-service airline said it hoped to raise 10 billion baht through the sale of up to 30% of its shares in a partial divestiture.

"Bangkok Airways needs to expand to cope with the freer flow of regional tourists that will be induced by the imminent Asean Economic Community as well as those from China and India," said Capt Puttipong.

The company will add 10 more aircraft over four or five years from 23 now.

Capt Puttipong said Bangkok Airways is introducing three new domestic and international routes this year, to Krabi, Mandalay and Udon Thani.

The Krabi route started operation in March with three daily flights.

The Mandalay route will be launched on Sept 16, while Udon Thani will be added in the fourth quarter.

So if I buy shares does that mean I qualify for staff discount ?

  2. Police arrest French bar owner for going on naked rant in Samui Island

At 3:40pm today, Samui police arrested Gabriel Chabriais, a 48-year-old French bar owner, for stripping naked in public and disturbing the peace.

Upon their arrival at his bar, police found a naked Chabriais going on a rampage, destroying furniture in the bar and threatening to kill himself. It took police three hours to calm Chabriais before forcing him to put some clothes on and sending him to Samui Hospital for medical diagnosis.

  3. You mean the foreigner might have money and they are taking him to a private hospital. You would be surprised the number of Thai's that have complete medical coverage and use private hospitals.

Only reporting it as I have been told John. As mentioned all hospitals have to offer emergency treatment to Thai citizens.

I only went past there a short while before this happened & lots of tourists on bikes not being observant of their surroundings.

Tourist do have a habit of stoping in the middle if the road some times , but also trucks have a habit of travelling at 120 km an hour without a care in the world

  4. Ha, cool. I don't know anything about that specific game (just Burt), but surely one of the 14 must have been a dealer? I'm not buying the "they knew the order of the cards" story. How could you order the cards without the pit boss knowing anything or the cameras seeing it?

1.3 Mill, wow. They got greedy. Should have stopped earlier, although I'm sure the casino would still have figured it out.

there was another similar story in the UK last week, where they refused to pay out a guy 7 million,

it turned out he could read the cards as on the back they had small prints not seen to the naked eye which had details of the card

maybe part of the same scam? , but then the question of how the cards got into the place?,.... they are not reviling much

  5. Just about all the houses there are for sale/rent.

Any idea what sort of prices they go for? (rental and sales?)

Most where asking around 5 million to buy , 35 plus to rent

1 or 2 have been refurbished and are mint inside, and a few have not been look after well

Seems an uncared for development last time I was there , plus many owners have load barking dogs roaming around

  6. Probably more likely to catch something nasty off one of the girls down green mango , but this advise is world wide ...

Also check sell by dates , as many mom and pop stores will sell products until gone, regardless if they went off last year .. ( many threads on here about gone off beer ! )

  7. A very young age , but a few questions

    1. Is that his brand new vios in the drive ?

    2. Where did he go so often ?

    3. How would a young guy sustain an income with no job at that age , and also stay alone ?

    4. No suicide note left ?

It would be good if the Thai police force ruled every death suspicious until proven otherwise , but I don't think it would happen

  8. Im not sure anyone in there right mind would ever consider Dubai.I would not even stop over there.

I don't see the prices/values that were around in 2007/2008 coming back anytime soon, maybe by 2016, sooner or later the Thai's will have to loosen their property/land ownership rules. I think they will start with allowing ownership of up to 1 rai by 2016.

Sg and Hong Kong are the places to market a property like that Nod, and you should try a diffirent approach, i have one idea for you, pm me if you wnat to hear it.

Dubai is on the up again, great rental return on places like The Palm

Plus the prices have gone down , I am shocked on enquires I get for Dubai. But it's cheap to live there and no tax .....

  10. I would love to believe you but the Thai economy is much better as the Western ones at this moment. It could change of course but for now its has much more growth. I too would love it if it was different and the exchange rate would change but realistic its just hoping and dreaming at this point in time.

I think there is a cultural tendency here to spend all you're money (and more) period, good times and bad. Thais remind me of Americans in the 80s.

Hit the nail on the head there. I see some Thais spend 80% of there salary just on there car/truck , or if they receive there yearly bonus they go and spend it all in an iPhone ! Thais and saving don't seem to go together unless they are very upper class
