  1. Can thaivisa change the google adwords settings to a pop up window ( new page )

as if i click on google addwords now it directs me to the page straight from thaivisa, thus i lose the page i am viewing on TV...... really anoying....

I think if you do this, you will retain the user in your site ( and not get directed away ) and it will also increase your clicks on google add words, as the user is still in your page and not directed to another page

    thanks

    Boater

  3. Hi

I am on a ferang salary, and work for a Thai company that pays taxes ect ect

On my base salary and payslip i am only deducted twice

750 THB For Hospital ( same as NI in the uk, and you have to pay, but a set amount and not calculated via how much you earn )

    3% Tax........

So in theory if you where earning 220 K a month ( what is your job?? ) you should expect to take home

    220,000 - 750 = 221.250

    221,250 x 3% = 6637.50 thb

Thus take home should be = 214,612.5 THB

  4. Daily News September 23.

Police were called to 'Bigger supermarket' on Phangan island just after midnight on September 21 where they found Mr Aphichart Linsuwan, aged 36, the owner of the store, and Ms Saisunee Sukhopan, aged 22, the cashier, in a state of shock.

The cashier said a European, aged between 40 to 45 had come up to the counter, and brandishing a gun ordered her to give him the cash, about 20,000 baht, in the till.

He then fled on a motorbike.

Later police arrested Mr David Cooper, an Englishman aged 48, at the ferry pier. He was found to be in possession of a number of fake bullets.

He was charged with armed robbery but denied the offence.

  7. Why must it be a rotweiller? Do the guy with the two boxers a favour and take them on.

i have already enquired about those dogs, but as i have a family, i would rather take on Pups... also at 5 years old the dogs are quite old already, and having dogs around a family, it is alot better to take dogs on as infants... as the saying goes ' you cannot teach old dogs new tricks '

I won't hijack this thread. I posted a response on mine...

I saw thanks....... they look great dogs.... but not really for me....

I hope you do find a home, and i will ask around to my friends if they are looking or willing to take on these dogs...

  8. So, we have lots of threads on the cost of living in Thailand, how much do you spend / need etc etc.

    How's about reversing it.

Lets say you are in Thailand and you have a million dollars riding on your hip, it puts you at a certain financial level.

Now, to acheive that same level in the UK, how many pounds sterling would you require - whats the equivalent GBP ne worth of being a USD millionare in Thailand.

Same question for the American readership .

    Another one:

And you are earning 50-60,000 THB in Thailand what do you think the British / American equivalent is?

    after everything, around 159 K

  9. From the business point of view, the upside and downside of considering hiring a native speaker to proof read an ad is easy to calculate. Risk of language error in ad with meaning of said ad still communicated (and which can be measured as inconsequential for ads that aren't targeted towards an *insignificant* minority) vs. no errors in ad + added cost of said ad, not to mention the richer cultural significance of keeping another "native speaker" from realizing some financial revenue (however minor). It's perhaps easier to compare the feelings involved to how much you care that the signs in Spanish and Vietnamese are grammatically correct at your local driver license office in the US for example.

    :o

1.) From a business point of view there is no need to hire a proof reader for simple advertisements. If the advertisers would simply ask a native speaker of English to proof read their adds I'm sure someone would gladly do it for free just for the pride of not seeing the language butchered or the advertiser embarrassed. I know I would.

2.) No comparison. There are millions of native Spanish and Vietnamese speakers in the US, many of whom work at the different state's Departments of Licensing, therefore everyone is relatively certain the Spanish and Vietnamese on the signs and forms is correct because the people who make those signs and forms take enough pride in their work to make sure a native speaker writes them (or at least proof reads them). If there were mistakes and a Spanish or Vietnamese person were to complain, someone would be held responsible. Not so in Thailand. No one cares and so one takes responsibility. It's just "Mai bpen rai". :D

1 ) I have to agree here as well as simons comments... last time i went to the UK, i visited the doctor, only to see 1 NHS leaflet in 10 different language's, and i can bet for sure there where no spelling or grammer mistakes there.. but this is english PC

2 ) Also , there is so many Native speakers, it makes sense to ask one!!!! ... even the one sign from the police in Samui, why not ask a tourist polce officer to proof?

    3) There was a mention of graphic designers, i have 3, and not 1 check grammer or spelling!!... but i have learnt it is a country problem.....

to conclude, i think it is a face issue, as Thai people HATE to be corrected on mistakes.... I have lived here 4 years and work with alot of Thais, and it seems to be the same ....
