  1. PeaceBlondie, I

    I agree.

However, there are many countries, the UK , for example, which are taxing the road users to the hilt. With yet more taxation, HIGH TAXATION increases and HIGH DUTY LEVELS, to come, anytime now. Those countries, can afford to lower prices. Could this be good for us, hee in Thailand? Whilst not reducing transporttion costs of western foodstuffs etc, it should certainly not, increase the costs?

    Just a thought?

hee in Thailand? No, surely not, you must be mistaken.

    :o

Sorry, May have misled. Good for us here in THailand? Was meant to refer to the high taxation on fuel etc, aiding lower cost transportation of goods, from the west, to Thailand, indeed. all ASEAN Countries?

Now Moi, is ascertaining confusion lol

    :D

  5. I was only thinking about this last night, sat in a Westen bar cafe in Pattaya.

Since last week, Menu prices have shot up in price. 14b hat on his range of homemade soups, for example. There are many western cafes,r estaurants that advertise 'daily specials' for 149b upwards. Yet there are equally good Thai owned cafes and restuarants selling the same western food menus, from a 1/3 or more, cheaper,, and just as nice. I realise that there have been price increases on food products, however, using my one example, I fail to see justification in a hike on soup from 55b to 69b in one go. And another thing, has the owner increased the pay to his staff? I would like to think so, however, I lean towards the idea that he has not.

  6. Hi,

The UK are attempting to seek 17 Britons, not heard from since the disaster struck.

A plea has been put out by the UK Gov, asking if there is anyone in the SE ASIAN region, who is aware of people/friends etc., living in Burma, and likewise, who have not heard anything from them since Saturday.

There are ample web sites to email in the UK, regarding this matter.

  7. Thanks for the information so far. You are being really helpful.

I do not have a car, and wherever possible, I avoid Motorycycle taxis, like the Plague.

Is accomodation cheaper round there? Is it a failry modern area? Is thee much noise from, considering the ongoing battles with local residents, of airport noise and compensation etc?

  8. Hi all,

May I please as a favour of those who are familiar with Bangkok and her Districts?

I have endeavoured to seek out schools in the Metropolis. I am facing utter confusion as to which are the better districts to reside and work. I would like somewhere central, but not too central I can do without to much noise both at work and at rest.

For example, I have an been offered, only this morning, further discussion with the following location/school.

    Location; RomKraw, Near Suvarnaphumi Airport

Class size: 25-30 Students per class.

    Grade 7-12

How far is the school from the Centre of Bangkok please?

I am seeking Aagood area, safe and clean, and a good school, preferably a M1 to M6 /Grade 6 to 12 Female school. As it is a female school where I have just completed my first full school year, there are a few boys at the school, however, I found them lazy and not interested in an education.

Please, anyone, can you help me in my predicament?

    Many thanks,

    Mike

  9. So, to the head mistress [falang, British if it's at all relevant] (the crux of the problem). She is, as mentioned, a nightmare. She drinks. Lots. With parents. And the kids are in the same bar. The kids see her absolutely plastered on a regular basis.

Jeez! Where is this school please? Certainly not in Chonburi, bars are hit and miss. And the Kraoke bars sell Singah at 130 Baht for a small bottle near moi.

Good luck. I too am seeking out a new school and finding it difficult. not because I cannot get a position, I have Been offered two, due to the fact that I am not sure of anywhere outside of Chonburi and Pattaya.

Moi has also been offered a position at a Boarding College in Loie, near Udan Thani, however, it is 25k from the nearest town. I am in a quandry.

    Too say the least.

I am unsure of districts in GKK alao.

    Onwards and upwards

  10. I spend a lot of time in AOL UK News areas. It was in the Uk News Debate area of AOL this morning,, being discussed.

As per usual, the Government , apparently launched this yesterday afternoon, prior to today's National Local Elections Day. They do this many times as general focus is on other things as far as the public and Government staff, are concerned.

I have, as yet, to log into AOL, as I have been busy all afternoon, in order to se if there is any more information regarding this.

As for Scotland, they now have their own Sottish parliament and many of their laws are not now decided by Westminster.

I would not have posted this, if, for any reason of unsurity, however, the sources as regards UK news in areas I subscribe to, are , usually not far off the mark .

It is a case of wait and see what transpires after the May Bank Holiday.

  11. Do not know about the Government being silly, but when The Thai Government get wind of what the UK Government announced yesterday, it will be the end of the end for all 3G mobiles. The UK Gov, in their wisdom, have announce a new law that all mobiles that take pictures/videos will be banned , as they have been used by thugs to take pics and footage of beatings of both adults and youths.

Not doubting you but that sounds very hard to believe. Do you have a link for the banning of camera mobiles in the UK?

  13. Or just maybe, the way I have just turned my WORLD Tarot Card ......

Maybe because of their success, the Querent is about to become a teacher, a Sensei, if you will. Revered for their expertise.

And maybe, because of this, they're going to be offered a job or trip to some amazing place. They're asked to lecture in a remote city in India, spend a month at the North Pole, teach on board a boat sailing round the globe. No boring little trip for this person, no sir! Luckily for them, the World card indicates that they'll feel comfortable and welcome no matter where they go. The World card indicates a person who owns nothing, because everything is theirs. No place is their home because every place is their home. It's all one, all complete.
