  1. Two visits to Bangkok to get a passport that lasts 10 years is hardly an ordeal. I am due at "Trendy" in early August and looking forward to staying overnight. Until the Immigration was sorted out to provincial offices we had to visit Suan Plu, now that was agony.

Forced thousand kilometer trips is an ordeal, particularly if you're elderly or disabled, even if it is only once every 10 years.

But then it practice it isn't every 10 years. If one takes a trip or two abroad every year, even if just popping across the border to a neighbouring country, then the pages of even a "jumbo" passport get used up long before 10 years has passed.

You too might one day get old or handicapped. Have a little compassion for others.

No need to throw the old and disabled card. I know of ex -pat men in their eighties who would bite your head off if you suggested they were too old to do anything.

They still go to immigration, get Thai DL's, and visit home countries.

If you decide to leave the safety of UK shores all these factors need considering, pensions, banking, health insurance etc. Known as the "what if___ factor"

HMPO could be real <deleted> and make us all fly home to renew a passport. Good Morning.

  2. I was at our local Honda dealer today having the Sonic serviced and looking at the new Waves.

Wave 110cc with black mag wheels RS model at 45,000 Baht and the Wave 125cc black mag wheels 56,000 Baht.

I was thinking of getting something more comfortable to ride, the Sonic apart from the odd puncture has been bullet proof. There will be no probs off loading it, a queue of local boys are wanting to buy it off me.

Besides cc any other big differences between the two Waves .

  3. At Surin, rice inspectors have been divided into four teams to check 101 granaries containing 8.3 million sacks. On this third day they had not found anything unusual about these stocks.

meanwhile in Isaan all ok so far.

The missing rice is more likely to be in yellow/PDRC supporting mill owners granaries. Lets wait until the final audit.

All OK except that we haven't been paid for our rice yet and the bank has no idea when this will happen. Who cares about the colour,as a farang your political views are not only irrelevant they aren't wanted, it must make the Thai masters from both sides laugh to see the fanatical support that they get from their barely tolerated guests.

Perhaps you have been paid and your wife has not told you yet. We have been paid for ours - and planted the new crop weeks back now. Thanks for your concerns.

  5. Oh, and i hate to rub salt in the wounds of those destined to venture into the horrendously titled "Trendy" building. But if you've ever suffered from claustrophobia stick a sack over your head before getting in the lift.

I have heard about that too, there are two lifts, one only goes to floor 10 and the other goes to floor 28. Thought a building like that would have more than 2 elavators. True?

  6. Seen the add for the MG on Thai tv?, Has the Union flag draped over it and presumeably some Brit driving it.

Strange for a product that is Chinese but put together at their new factory in Thailand.

I owned an MGBT in the UK in the 70's, last of the chrome bumper types. It was crap and rusted to bits but the overdrive switch on the dashboard was kind of interesting.

Later I replaced it with a Toyota MR2, the difference between the two!.

  7. Got a 6 speed manual mazda bt50 and cannot fault it except for a few rattles from 38000 km driven mostly on Issan roads. (Bought new oct 2013 so clocking up the Km's fast)

    Newish ride with rattles..................coffee1.gif

My truck is near 7 years old and drives and sounds like new............thumbsup.gif

Build quality, design quality, so you don't have all these rattles.

But it is still just a Toyota.

Allowances have to made for the hard of hearing as age advances. All trucks rattle.

  8. Consider the New Chevrolet Colorado, built by GM in partnership with Isuzu in Rayong. 6 speed AT with 2.8 turbo Duramax (Dmax) diesel delivers same power as the 3.2L Ford. Service interval 25,000 KM

The Chevrolet Colorado may be a good truck, but since its sales volume is near the

bottom of the list the ready availability of parts & service may be a concern.

Thought the engine in the new 2.8L Colorado is an Italian VM built in Brazil. May be wrong, often am!.

The fact that 80% of pickup sales here are between Toyota and Isuzu, the remainder have to fight it out for rest tells you what the Thais think of the market.

Our local Tessabaan has just purchased ten new (pink) refuse trucks, all on an Isuzu chassis. TOT have fleets of orange Vigo's. so there you go.
