  1. It's no problem with doing this. Just turn around in Nongkai or stay the nite. I know people who do this every month. You might-probably will get asked by Laos customs at some stage. Usually after a year anyway.

Whether every 3 months, or each one month to Nongkhai, from Vientiane, what kind of visa will the Thais issue, and............... how long wil they be willing to alowing such visits?

And "asked by "Laos customs at some stage"----asked what? To stop these crossings, or what?

A Laotian limit on 30 days (extended for another 60)?

A Laotian limit on continual 30 day runs?

    Thanks.

  2. 30 day Lao tourist visa cannot be extended, (as i understand it),

which apparently means leaving the country and starting over again if one wants to stay in Lao without a work permit.

Any problem on the Thai side of the border run, for a farang poppng in 12 x a year?

Do the Thais allow that? And what kind of TH visa woud be involved?

Simple to do, or is there more to know?

  3. This is not a CM rerence, but BKK:

Dr. Nick Walters at Mission Hopital specializes in tropical medicne, if you think that subject covers your question.

He is knowlegeable, careful, compassonate, devoted, native English speaker-----I cannot say enough good things about him.

He is an internist also, and maybre something else.

  4. Just across from S&P, ground floor, Cental KSK, a small corner" print shop does this.

Maybe also if you look for the AAA shop, first going thru the dining area, and another table area, bearing to the right.

  5. Such a pity Laos doesn't have a retired ( O-A ) visa like Thailand

There are several unofficial ways to retire in Laos, each of which carries its own set of advantages and disadvantages. The first, most popular, and undoubtedly quickest method for remaining in Laos for the long term is to make use of successive thirty-day tourism visas, each extended to ninety days of validity from inside Laos.

These visas can be applied for back to back as you leave and return to Laos, with no formal limit on quantity of validity of the tourism visas. Thousands of foreigners in Laos reside in the country legally using this method, and an informal ‘visa run’ bus and tour industry has emerged for the sole purpose of serving foreign expatriates.

And the other unofficial ways to retire there? Care to expound on them? Thanks.

  6. "On the other side, they keep on saying that the local authorities are quipped to deal with a big disaster....love to see a big one happenning then in thailand to see what happens. Plus being a "poor" "deprived" and envious guy living in a safe one storey suburds, love to see disaster come in the rich areas like silom, sathorn, saladaeng, ploenchit, langsuan, chidlom, lower sukhumvit etc. Hopefully it happens at night when the corrupted rich are sleeping in their beds! Lol!"

In reply to the above, let's be careful what we wish for. Karma is not restricted to actions, but includes thoughts, too. If some people need a quake as a learning experince, it will come of itself.

Karma does not have to be viewed as apunishment, but as an opportunity to learn, and to change as needed.

Wishing it on anyone attracts to the wisher what he wants for others. Maybe not too late to cancel that desire, and choose to offer loving kindness and compassion to all beings, interconnected as we are, lettting universal law assign whatever experiences wherever needed.

  7. There is a point of view that the pursuit of happiness is the guarantee of sadness.

Therefore, why look for one's happiness in externals, when one's essential nature is actually happiness, joy, bliss, ananda, and ever has been, and is such, and will be, tho' we are free to ovelook it.

That internal joy can be allowed to overflow and to permeate one's experiences.

External experieces of themselves are ephemeral, transient, illusory, and less satisfying over time.

  8. When the time is right, solitude is an excellent catalyst to benefit from the Greek philosophy of "Know Thyself", which includes the process of disidentifying from the false self of ego-mind-personality.

In India, traditionaly, the 4th and final stage of life ("ashrama", I think) is reclusive (tho 'some bring along their wives).

And if need be, one can balance this by inclluding some social activity.

Had to do some shopping today, and the worker was so sincerely interested in my well-being, I told her i did not feel alone at all, with peope lke her around.

    Gracias a la vida!

(clarification of my earlier post today--if it is still there)

  10. I have heard form Joe Krebs recently with regard to a tax question.

Whether he is here in TH or in the USA is of no concern to me, as my situation can be and has been handled by email. I addition, I am confident he is well acquainted with the nuances of overseas filing.

Nervertheless, my understanding is that he spends the first half of the year here, and the last half in the USA.

If I recall correctly, his email address, and that of his partner or assistant, are available on the website mentioned earlier on this thread.

    I am a satisfied customer.

  11. I also need more than the usual care with regard to painkillers, and my dentist is careful in this regard. Dentist is also excellent in every other way imaginable, so much so that I fly to BKK 2x a year just for checkups. PM me if you want contact. info.

  12. Soy reputed by many to be dangerous. I would not touch it. Of course, if this is true, commercial interests may fund their own repies, even indirectly, overridng the alternative view, so that the consumer finds his logical mind confused. The truth can be found by aksing the intuition, or being assisted by such a methodology as kenesiology to see just what tjis particular body nees to imbibe, or to stay away from..

Beet root and carrot juice very healthy, and very cleansing for the system.

  13. As far as I am concerned, I am not worried at all.

I visit lower Sukhumvit and Thonglor perhaps twice or thrice a year and only if I absolutely, absolutely must. But not even 10 horses would get me down to Khao San.

I avoid those tourist ghettos like the plague, and frankly, I've never really understood what is so compelling about them that makes every other traveler want to stay there.

Lemming mentality? TripAdvisor recommendations? Girly bars? Cheap banana pancakes (apparently some "globetrotters" cannot survive without those)?

As I understand it, the current "crackdown" is largely confined to those ghettos.

Is this for real? Any oter verification that this is going at Khaosan Rd. area?
