  1. A positive report (from another Mimi-Sheryl-Nancy, et al, fan):

For those concerned with being caught in the middle, having registered, and not yet picked up the 2nd card, no problem. Simply presented original card and copy of bill at Nakorn Ping Hospital, and received new card, exactly one week later. I have learned from life not to ask questions if it means opening up the possibilty of a "no" answer.

Inquired about just what was tested, and got this far:

The tests were for syphilis, gonorrhea, parasites...., and not for HIV, nor hepatitis....and that is all I was able to discern.

Perhaps there is more(?) that could be figured accurately from the 4 result sheets I received in answer to my question.

Hats of to the Nakorn Ping staff for all the metta and karuna so evident in their work, which energy I had opportunity to receive and pass on with some bed-patients in the hall, who absolutely lit up when I waied them.

Gonorrhea? Are you sure about that? Gonorrhea is almost always tested for by swabing the affected area. For men that means sticking a cotton bud inside the penis! When I was a teenager and in my early 20's that was one thing I absolutely hated to have done when I had "the clap"! Give me a needle in my arm any day over that! A quick web search seems to confirm my thoughts. They were no doubt checking for HIV.

No, not sure about that. Not sure about anything just because I hear or read it. I inquired at the hospital, and that was what I was told. I bow to your reply and to Sheryl's.

  3. Am considering getting a post office box, tho' I am far from a post office.

Figure this would cut out a few steps for the mailpersons. Yet my problem may simply have to do with the fact that i live in a large aparment complex, and the mail is put into not-so-private boxes (no cover, open to anyone). by yet some more sets of hands, not employed by the PO.

  4. Could this be what is called "subsidence"? It can happen slowly, the reduction in elevation over many years, but it has been suggested elsewhere that it can accelerate very deeply and very quickly.. Other countries on the Sunda plate experience this, too. Generally authorities blame it on rain even when there is no rain, and public order is maintained. Chiang Mai, perhaps (?) just north of the plate, might be safe, but there are no guarantees.

  5. Ok, I assume that is a good thing. When I went there they had not really an idea what this is all about. I just brought the first page from the ministerial order and they processed it. Later the lady called my wife (I gave her details as contact in case of an emergency) and asked, where she could get more information about the program. Gave her the link to the document as well as the contact number from HIGTHAI. They now most likely have verified all that and adjusted.

Regarding Nakornping, you first have to go to counter 2, that is the admission, on the right side, when you stand in front of the hospital. They will take your data and put you in the computer. Afterwards you'll be sent to room 18, which is the checkup. You may get an appointment here to come back later, depending on the queue. Not complicated, just don't be surprised about the amount of people there smile.png.

    Physical checkup? ...........And compulsory?

And including blood test, urinalysis, and chest x-ray?

  6. Yeah, I met one. Looked in the mirror and there he was. Do not remember him from 10 years ago, but simply breathing in the inescapable Buddhism that is in the very air here, now I find that things that bothered me at first are not a matter of right and wrong, but just different. And what a joy to the Creator who manifested the Universe in order to enjoy variety, to find that, without the interference of colonialists,.Thais have been able to retain much of their own culture.

Today, for example, a fire drill---with fire, and smoke, and water provided by the partipants themselves---unheard of where I come from. Mirabile dictu! No judgment, just wonder and awe, as they do their own thing.

  7. I do not know, but wonder, when this type of thing happens, whether it is a matter of self-awareness. If group awareness is so strong that someone does not know he is an individual, then he will not see you as an individual. Once he does see you as an individual, he can choose to respect you as such, or not.

On the other hand, maybe this is just one of those mysteries never to be fathomed by western thinking.

And of ourse there ae multiple different ways of thinking, and each is valid for its own particular culture.

  8. I did the extension in CM two weeks ago. The officer handling it told me the policy has changed. You can now renew 45 days in advance.

Immigration nation wide is going over to the 45 days before.

Thank you! Next question is; how do they count?

I count back 45 days from December 29th( final day for extension), to November 13th, but, respectfully, this is adifferent culture..

  9. "These universities are uncertified. This means no matter what courses they have conducted, their graduates will never get any recognition in the country's civil-service sector. Their degrees will mean nothing, as soon as employers find out the truth." Hey wait just a minute! The rule here is "It is who you know, not what you know" and now these trouble makers are trying to change that? How do you fire your nephew from that cushy civil service job you got him? You don't need to go to a certified university: look at "Dr." John Gray, "Phd" ("Men are from Mars" fame). He has a mail order Phd and it hasn't hurt him at all.

Emdog, simply as an educator I would be interested in where John Gray got his doctorate. Could not find his academic resume when searching. Can you provide more info? Thanks.

And I do understand how some uneducated people are smarter, and wiser than those with, to use the USA term, "accredited" degrees.

A person who has done a great deal of work on questionable schools is John Bear, who has written valuable books on th subject, and been called to testify by the FBi in court cases.

  10. To be clear, it did happen that the original news of the Saturday shoot-out included the public tip to the insurgents that credit was due to an informant.

So it would be logical for intelligent insurgents to quickly look for and deal with the informant.

Amazing that anyone would dare to be an informant when repeatedly this scenario has been followed.

And is what sounds like a betrayal due to incompetence or to malicious intent?

    I'd best stop here.

  11. Those GNC stores are still open however I dont recommend them if you are after supplements..there are much better and cheaper options. There are two big online stores, both ship to Cm for free. Or if you dont like ordering but prefer going to the shops, there is a thai girl who has two shops in Cm. One on the left side of the moat when you come from Saturday market. There is a coffee shop there, called Born2sleep. The supplement store is right next to it. The other shop is if you know where Mike's burger is..on the corner there you need to take a left. I forgot the name of the road. And as you drive down the road, this shop will be on the right side. She has a wide variety of supplements. Imported brands. Good luck Why I cannot like my own comment? Sent from one of my devices using the internet

Curious about from what country these 2 online stores originate. Could you possibly give the 2 links? Would not mind saving some money over GNC. Thank you.
