ENGLISH WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN NAKLUA CONDO

An English woman, Mrs. Lilian Olga Bailey (71),was found dead in the room of her Naklua condo in the early evening of 23 March, 2008, following a swim. Foul play is not suspected.

Following a report received at 6.20 pm, Police Lieutenant Colonel Tawatchai Sutsakorn and his rescue team went to a room on the 2nd Floor of PP.House, in Soi Naklua to find the dead body of Mrs. Lilian, dressed in a blue swimming suit, lying on her side, on the floor between the bed and the TV.

She was bleeding from a 10 cm. long wound on the back of her head, but there was no evidence of any disturbance or anything untoward.

Questioned her tearful husband, whose name has been withheld, police learnt that they had rented the room three months ago and on the day of the incident, he had gone out while his wife said she was going for a swim off Wong Amat Beach.

On returning to their room, he found the body of his wife lying on the floor, dead. He presumed that she must have fallen over and struck her head on the floor, causing her death.

Police will send her body to the morgue for further examination and will later arrange for the British Embassy to collect her body, probably for repatriation.

what a shame for the poor lady to die alone in such a way.

so many miles from home and her family.

    my condolences to her husband.

    RIP

  2. The one question I have is where do they get all these handguns? Every week it's teens

or gang fighting and it always seems to involve weapons? I've never seen a gun store

and I thought they were illegal so what is the actual law on this issue since everyone

but the law-abiding citizens seems to be in possession of weapons? I would appreciate

sincere responses. Already once, I was walking by a karaoke with shots fired outside. :o

It's easy to see how this is/has been going to begin spilling over into the tourist areas.

i once asked my housekeeper the same question. she said they can be bought here easily and are usually smuggled in by migrant workers from Burma, Cambodia & Laos and sold here on arrival and the money used as settling in money until payday comes around.

she also said that guns are often rented out by gang bosses for a specific job and returned afterwards.

the price of the rental can be as little as 500baht and outright purchases depending on the quality of the weapon range from 2000-10,000 baht.

    lifes cheap...........

  3. Will be taking my mothere to Pattaya for a couple of nights and want to know where to take her as she doesn't seem to be too keen on Thai food, unfortunately! We'll be somewhere around the Second Road, so recommendations uregently needed!

    Cheers guys/gals :o

try Symphony on the left side of 2nd Road between Sois 7 & 8. Hugh is a great host, the food is excellent and reasonably priced. My mother likes it there. It used to be called Mata Hari for the benefit of the old campaigners

  4. i need to replace the foam rubber cushions on my sofa - does anyone know where i can buy replacements that can be cut to order in the Pattaya area?

if you go towards Rayong on Sukhumvit Road, after Pattaya Nua, go around 1000 metres and keep an eye on the shops on the left hand side. opposite near where the U -turn is on the right, and well before Index, there is a shop that sells all manner and thicknesses of foam. i am sure they will fix you up.

are you saying this is between Pattaya Nua and Pattaya Klang on Sukhumvit? - sounds like this would have what i need

yes, thats exactly what i am saying, you will see many rolls of foam stacked outside on the pavement, i believe its the last old style shophouse before the newly built part starts.

    i hope that helps

  6. Hello, do they have a GPS system that can be put in to a vehicle in thailand and how accurate are they?

Another question I am thinking of a new CRV and am woundering about the crash testing done on them verse other vehicles in the same class,,,,

    How safe are they?

    thanks in advance

i have a Garmin Nuvi 300 in one car and a Kenwood module attached to an ICE system in the other.

both are great, the biggest problem i have in use, is the spelling of Thai place names.

you need to input exactly the same spelling that is programmed into the units, this is not neccesarily the Thai spelling you may be used to seeing.

if its a long trip i tend to get the co-ordinates from Google earth and input them manually into the units.

that avoids any errors and circumvents the spelling issue.

the best thing however on both is the 'get me home' feature

when you are completely lost just enter GO HOME and it will map the route for you to the front door.

this is great when you are in Bangkok and have no real idea where you are.

  7. hi,

the wife has some problem with her eye, would like to check that with a Doctor.....any recommendations?

    thanks,

    raro

i expect this advise will be repeated by many and scorned by some but i always use Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

i had Lasik surgery there about 7 years ago and the service was fantastic.

now due to my fairly recent diabetes diagnosis, i go for a a glaucoma and general eye check every 6 months

in my view they could not be more professional in this particular field.

Could you please name your specific doctor that you use there? I had a dodgy experience with the one eye doc that they have at Pattaya International and want to avoid going to Bangkok.

the doctor who did the Lasik surgery has left now and works in Bangkok.

on the two 6 monthly occcasions i had the sugar test it was with two seperate doctors, one woman, one man, both were very good.

i am sorry i cannot be more specific for you.

  9. In the right perspective please.

3 Brits involved in altercations in 2 weeks....all in the early hours and I suspect that this one will also involve alcohol consumption.

When you arrive at the airport inbound.....its the attitude that needs leaving at the airport not the brains..... :o

you sound like a balanced individual, you have a chip on both shoulders.

this forum is littered with reports of Aussie citizens bahaving badly, why would you target only Brits?

  10. I have heard varying estimates from disgruntled bar owners that they have to keep the footage from anything from 2 - 7 days. On what medium is up to them, but most places seem to have opted for the cheapest option which is a webcam storing to their hard drive, which of course will give the poorest resolution and no chance of catching the perpetrators of any crimes.

What would be a better medium with higher resolution that is not too expensive? :o

i have a 4 camera low light security system with a DVR and 400GB hard drive which stores medium resolution pictures for around 40 days. higher resolution for about 27 days. the camera view is divided into 4 sections on the monitor, each cameras view is recorded individually and when playback is actioned it can be zoomed into one single cameras view of an event. it cost me about 30,000 baht. you can get all the bits you might need at Tukcom.

  11. Seen a few vans full of dogs recently going to somewhere, maybe tonys dog sanctury

    More likely Nakhon Sakhon.

and then onto the stewing pots of Vietnam :o

Sakhon Nakhon is also known for eating dog - there is a minority tribe in the area (the Soh??) who also sell the skins to the fur trade.

no need to go that far, one month ago a buffet type restaurant on 3rd road was discreetly closed by town hall suits after finding a dogs head in the soup.

  12. I live on the dark side and thought a best eateries and pub's / bars for the dark side would be good as there seems very little information available for what is over here.

Usually when I want a beer or some food I cross over Sukhumvit and theres only 2 places I've really been to over here, the new Kiss eatery on Soi Siam CC has OK food 24 Hours a day and occasionally I have had a beer in Lucky Time bar on Soi Nernplubwaan, the bar is OK but I would suggest that you avoid the food, not good.

Has anybody tried the pub on Soi Khao Noi called the Red Lion, I was given a recommendation but every time I drive past it seems empty ?

Anyway c'mon you dark siders let's get some quality info on the dark side.

you can get a very palatable and good value breakfast at Chesters in the little Soi opposite the busy market, the sausages are excellent!

its over the railway bridge and about 50 metres on the right hand side, theres a 7-11 on the corner. theres ample parking which is free to users of the businesses in the Soi, otherwise you have to pay.

the charge is to discourage users of the market from parking there.

  13. whats the cost of of a will in english and thai

i asked my accountant about it 3 weeks ago, they said it was 6000 they did not say + tax but i expect it is.

he is Sam at Saturday night accounting on Theprasit Road.

  14. just called TOT and they say the under water cable is sitll broke, is this true?? I thought they fixed this long time ago. I think they are telling me Shit. ask when it would be fixed, they said they do not know. My ji-net in Bangkok is working fine. this reallyy sucks speedtest is 107 kps on speedtest.net san francisco

Well, they give you the bs-answer. They are slow because they have too much traffic on their foreign lines. Other ISPs in Thailand give way more international bandwidth to their customers. Of course, if they happen to have 90% of the customers in thailand they would be more affected by a broken connection like we experienced the last couple of years in undersee cables beeing broken. Last I hear was that 2 of 5 cables where fixed.

The only thing you can do is changing ISP if possible. This is however not a static problem. Its close to impossible to know what ISP will be on top of the dung next month or next year.

i have TT&T maxnet premier 1090 baht month, no problems and i have just used speedtest to SF and the result is :1202/250 -no broken cable there then! 241021280.png

  15. yes two of the coward thai men out of the 4 have been caught and my father has told me it was a load of bulls**t that they told the police just so that they get a lighter sentence!!

we still don't know what really happened but in my opinion they are stupid cowards who had to beat my dad with weapons (not rocks but metal kosh's) and not one on one but a gang of them. f**king idiots hope they go to prison and get treated like the scum they are!!

hi Han, when your dads feeling better perhaps he might give his own account of what happened to the concerned members of this forum.

    get well soon.

  16. Bigoted against Brits....Nope....bigoted against big mouth idiots...yes....BTW I was born in the UK. :D:D

so let me get this right, you left UK, went to live in Oz and you are bigoted against big mouth idiots?

I am so glad you can read..... :o:D

But lets keep this on topic.....these guys are idiots.....the laws against drugs in Asia are well documented. Anyway they ran the risk and got caught...their own fault.

its probably a nice way to close this interaction, as for once you have expressed an opinion i can't disagree with you about.

given the highly publicised penalties for being involved with drugs in Thailand, compared to other more liberal places in the world, it was utter stupidity to do it here, regardless of the quantity.

  17. i would admit that Brits have a bad reputation the world over, but i guess you would know that first hand coming from Britains biggest open prison

    See answer below

call me a cynic if you must, but as you live and work in Australia, is that not a critical endictment by you of your own countrymen?

I actually work in a prison.

do you believe everything you read in the newpapers?

    especially these sensationalist local rags?

I told you I dont read them....My comments relate directly to what is posted here.

Western Australia is too far from anywhere to be relevant. It's main claim to fame is that it doesn't have daylight saving because if it did, all the men would get erections on the bus on the way to work.

WA was the last state to stop importing convicts and many of them still work there in the government and business.

Excuse me !!....but WA has daylight saving....keep up with the times..... :D

At least we can get erections.... :o

The last Yank that got an erection was Bill Clinton...or was that Hilary..... :D

And the last Pom that got an erection was Nelson. :D

''Excuse me !!....but WA has daylight saving....keep up with the times..... :D ''

you really need to less impulsive and actually read the thread properly before banging your keyboard

as i pointed out to you before:

    when i said:

you can take up the inaccuracies about WA with the author here:

shall i make the font bigger so you can read it better?

Yeah I saw that.......but seeing as you quoted it.....then you can be responded to..... :D and it sets the record straight.

I remember the quote and the guy who posted it....

What you probably dont realise is that when there are no Poms or Yanks to take the pi55 out of.....we take the pi55 out of ourselves......that is acceptable here in Oz..... :D

thats good, i expect that means there will be many opportunities for you to get some much needed practise with the inmates before you try it out on here.

  19. great presentation, quite a stunning set, lots of people involved

    the story was well told

    The meal was just OK

    the outdoor entertainment was fun.

    take money for the souvenirs!!!

i have been twice with house visitors to Pattaya, it was a very good show.

don't go too early, they say 7-30 but showtime is nearer 9, they want you there early to spend money on the other attractions outside the theater.

didn't do the meal the second time, it was just ok first time

one of the guests on one of the visits was wheelchair bound and the staff were very helpful in regards to assistance, prefered seating etc, they made her feel very special.

i would recommend it, its a spectacular show.

    i hope you enjoy it.

  20. Break the law, you pay the price....

.IT IS THE LAW full stop. BTW....68.7 grams is also above the personal use limit for most countries....

not in some parts of Australia though

    THE LAW, STATE BY STATE

    South Australia

South Australia decriminalised low-level marijuana use in 1987, putting in place the most relaxed drug laws in the country. The cultivation and possession of small amounts of cannabis, up to 100 grams, attracts on-the-spot fines ranging from $50 to $150 - an offence similar to a parking ticket. There is no conviction and the matter does not go to court. The same on-the-spot-fine system applies to small-scale cultivation, with up to 10 backyard plants attracting the maximum $150 fine. For amounts greater than 100 grams or more than 10 plants, normal prosecutions apply.

    New South Wales

It remains illegal to cultivate, possess and/or sell cannabis. There is no provision for police to caution or warn first-time offenders, and there is no system of on-the-spot fines for cannabis-related crimes. Offenders must face court, where fines and prison terms are common, although magistrates can release offenders without conviction.

    Queensland

The laws in this state are in line with those in New South Wales.

    Tasmania

Cabinet approval is imminent on proposals to reduce to a formal written caution the first time possession of up to 50 grams of marijuana for personal use. Under the changes, infringement notices would be issued, but charges would not be laid and people would not have drug offences recorded against their names. The shift is modelled on Victorian police policy and will be trailed for 12 months.

ACT (Ed. note: Australian Capital Territory around Canberra)

The personal use of cannabis was decriminalised here in 1992. Now anyone found with less than 25 grams of cannabis or fewer than five cannabis plants generally faces a spot fine of up to $100 with no conviction recorded. However the law also gives police the discretion to lay a criminal charge.

    Western Australia

The conservative Government has refused to bow to calls for minor cannabis use to be decriminalised. Under the WA criminal code, a person caught in possession of any quantity of an illegal drug is required to appear before a magistrate. Most minor offenders walk away with a small fine. Police can use their discretion on whether to charge first-time cannabis offenders, but this remains a grey area.

    Northern Territory

While the Northern Territory has Australia’s most draconian laws in regard to stealing and property offences, its marijuana laws are considered to be among the most liberal. The Chief Minister, Mr Shane Stone, introduced on-the-spot fines for possession of small amounts of cannabis - less than 50 grams - which were for personal use.

so i guess you have to choose carefully where you smoke your dope in Australia and get your facts right before adopting a holier than though attitude!

my guess is that had this crime not had Brits involved you would not have even bothered to comment.

    example:

where were you when this became public?

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...australian+drug

    bigoted against Brits, Mr Burns?

  21. I guess it must be easier to stereotype all Thais as thugs and liars than it is to admit that your own countrymen are just as bad in both areas and you think I am naive.... :o

i would admit that Brits have a bad reputation the world over, but i guess you would know that first hand coming from Britains biggest open prison

to say that Thai people are more inclined to be thugs and liars is taking a pretty narrow minded perhaps bigoted viewpoint of the Thai people and their culture.

i am not so exclusively narrow minded that my viewpoint encompasses only Thais..........it extends to bigoted aussies too

I know pretty much when I am being lied to....it is a regular issue in my line of employment, I get lied to more times in one day at work than most people get lied to in a month.

call me a cynic if you must, but as you live and work in Australia, is that not a critical endictment by you of your own countrymen?

It was mentioned in the report that he was with friends....I havent seen anything that states different, so until I do, I can only comment on what has been stated here.

do you believe everything you read in the newpapers?

    especially these sensationalist local rags?

news is like a deviled egg, the farther it travels the more it begins to stink

    example:

"Officers beat black man to death,'' said the headline in Australia's national newspaper, The Australian. December 4th 2003

"The police were called after Nathaniel Jones awoke from his early morning slumber at a fast-food restaurant and starting becoming a nuisance,'' the story began.......Blah Blah .................as it turns out there was no evidence that Jones was beaten to death.

Reports from the coroner showed he was not seriously injured by the cops, who jabbed him in the legs to get him to put his hands behind his back.

The cause of death is more likely to be a combination of an enlarged heart and obesity mixed with PCP and cocaine.

see how easy it is for even highly respected news media in ''first world'' countries to get it wrong

i bet you believed it though didn't you?

Just in case you missed it though....I also said that the Thai guys went beyond what was a reasonable response to the situation. I dont condone the actions of the Thai guys...but the Pommie guy must take responsibilty for his contribution to the whole matter.

i didn't miss it & i agree with you, in fact as you failed to note in my last message, i said ''he had behaved as has been reported by the webs/rags, i know i would keep quiet too........... out of shame.''

Oh yeah.....if you cant tell the difference between a BG's "love you long time thi rak" and a serious attempt at lying...then I am sure that the average bar jockey would be more qualified than your good self at talking about Thai liars....... :D:D:D

thanks for your informed opinion, thats quite a relief, i really thought they did actually love me too much

finally a quote from a old thread by an Australian member of this very forum:
