  1. "He" guys, "he"!smile.png

Au contraire kind Sir, I think you'll find its polite to address transgendered people according to the lifestyle they've chosen from themselves. This topic was covered in a recent Hollywood movie: Transamerica - a really excellent film if you get a chance to watch it.

    Its still a bloke!

and no Hollywood movie can make me call him "she"! dry.png

@Naam; notwithstanding the fact that your information regarding "FindMYiPhone" is truly helpful (I thank you !), I believe that you should "think" a little bit more about the phenomena of the "Lady-Boy".

When I first arrived in Thailand, some 21 years ago, I saw "Ladyboys" for the first time in my life. I couldn't stop laughing, because I thought it was soooo odd and totally un-natural ! Also, some of these LB's didn't really have the traits to "make" a good looking girl . . . .

Then; one day; I actually met one of these Ladyboys (a relative of my wife) and had a conversation with her. I learned a few things I had not, previously, realized:

Just imagine, Naam; you are born and you 'appear' to be a beautiful little baby-boy; however, as your life progresses, you begin to feel increasingly uncomfortable with "who" you are . . . . you also discover that you are becoming increasingly more "feminent" in your demeanor and you are at a total loss why this is happening to you . . . . . After a huge internal struggle (you don't feel you "fit-in" with the boys, nor the girls), you slowly but surely begin to realize that you are, in fact, a FEMALE caught-up in a MALE physique. That this state of mind & body is devastating, might be very clear; but how the hell do you deal with something like this ?????

Life is difficult enough, even when all the squares line-up 'properly' - nobody is asking for such horrific extra 'luggage'. BUT; here you are in THAT situation and-, like it or not - you have got to deal with it !

The people who have and have had this happening to them (most certainly not of their own choice ! !) must now somehow gather enormous amounts of courage in order to face this weird thing that's happened to them; they must somehow face, deal-with & overcome this extremely UN-FAIR hand which was dealt them by "life".

I personally have great admiration and respect for those of my fellow human-beings, who've had to face (and are facing) this terrible ordeal and I salute them for their Bravery, Courage and the Conviction of their own Self-Value, in the face of their often totally Non-Understanding & Ridiculing environment !

Believe you me; IF you can muster respect for a Katoey - it is already a very kind thing you can do, by addressing her as "SHE" ! - You would, if you were in HER shoes . . . . .

The expression "Walk A Mile In My Shoes" comes to mind: well let me tell you Naam: you and I wouldn't get very far in High-Heels, would we ? ? ?

    wai.gifwai2.gifwai.gif

    Jaap

i could walk a mile in your shoes

then i would be a mile away and would have your shoes......

  2. i always use Bridgestone on sukhumvit road

this is the one when heading north from Pattaya Thai to pattaya klang

its on the left side before you get to the newish macdonalds

big selection of brands of tyres from deep discount to downright outrageous, friendly staff, good prices

i am sorry to say that i was there on saturday after i burst a nearly new tyre in a huge pothole that i never saw in the driving rain

it brought tears to my eyes (and my pocket) as it was only 6 weeks old

sods laws dictated it had to be that one...........

  3. It's the airline that will cause the problem, they use this system at check in. If the visa says allowed until 25DEC and they are booked 03JAN they wont board them for fear of a penalty.

    http://www.starallia...isa-and-health/

I'd suggest they buy a cheapo BKK/DMK to KL or SIN as a throw away ticket one way out of Thailand within the 60 day period that will keep check in people happy and do your border run at your own pace.

what if they booked a flight in and out within the time allowed by the visa from UK then extended the visa by 30 days when they were here and changed the return flight date?

    would that work?

  4. i have friends coming for a longish holiday. they say:

''We are looking at flights to Thailand for the end of October until 1st Jan 13 circa 65-70 days.

if we get a 60 day visa will they let us in the country, we intend to go to Cambodia for a week or so sometime during our stay so will be out of the county for a while.

The question is what kind of visa is our best option, can you advise a 60 day tourist but will immigration let us in with our return flights being later then the visa end date and no on-going travel plans?''

    thoughts please?

  5. Thanks tropo and timekeeper for the information. Last night having seen only the "focus on desserts" I got the idea it would be similar to the chocolate buffet of the Sukhotai in Bangkok and was going to give it a miss, but I see that there are enough things worth trying at least once!

Jayman, sorry I misunderstood the intention of your question. They start at 12 and not sure if until 15:00 or 15:30.

    Finish at 14:30

That seems like they start late for a Sunday brunch. So then the hours for lunch seem to be the same for all 7 days right?

    12 until 15-30 on sundays

  6. also its 350 baht net now for lunch and the ++ is included

Does anyone know what are the "signature dishes" on Saturday? I have someone over and was thinking about going there tomorrow. I have tried the Sunday brunch a few times (very nice worth the extra money for special occasions), but never Saturday lunch.

Saturday lunch is focused on dessert.

... and in answer to the other question, the ++ is included in the 350 baht.

sweet & sour fish, sea bass in sauce, seafood linguini, green curry, chicken goujons and chips, pizzas, crab fried rice, noodles, pumpkin soup , salad bar with chicken or ham and cheese wraps, sushi, maybe some shrimp

    like tropo says many desserts

    mouth watering yet?

  7. Ahhhhh!

That feels nice after Sotsira's reply.

Maybe he should listen to his own signature at the bottom of his postlaugh.png

    Sometimes to keep it together,

we've got to leave it alone."rolleyes.gif

Chas, my reply was not meant to discredit your advice,

I still stand by what i said.

Second Hand & Market usually spells disaster.

Im very glad that Timekeeper found what he wanted even though i feel

600bt for two S/H remotes is a bit steep considering brand new ones cost the same

if not, even less than that.

600bt for two S/H remotes is a bit steep considering brand new ones cost the same

i would add to that statement, ''if you can get them new''

these were older DVD units and second hand was the only option

so thanks to Chas and the helpful guy in the market these old but good quality machines have been given a new lease of life....

  8. There's a stall that sells Second hand(?) remotes in the Tuesday/Friday Market on the Pattaya Tai end of Soi Bukhow.

It's in the part with a roof on rather than the tented bit.

    The end nearest the Wat.

    Hope you find something.smile.png

What are the chances of a second hand remote in a market to work.

Then try and ask for a refund when it doesn't work.

thanks to Chas, i went there today

very helpful chap, i got a pioneer DVD remote and a LG DVD remote

said ''you hab problum, bring back''

    no need, both work ok

paid 600 baht for the two

so the chances of them working appear to be 2 out of 2 in this case........

    thanks again Chas

  11. O.P. states that he already bought a universal remote. For anyone else who need one when theirs dies etc. There is a shop on Theprasit a couple of doors down from the store with the yellow front. They have all kinds of original remotes. My Samsung broke and I got an original one (not exactly the same as the one that broke) that works perfect.

    hi michael

following your previous advice i went there to get a couple of remotes for DVD's and as you say they do have a good selection but unfortunately only for TV 's

    its a good tip anyway

    thanks for sharing

  14. Central Department store has a good selection of wine. And some are "certified" to have been kept at the proper temp. As you know, a few hours in hot weather will kill the wine. We bought a bottle which we didn't like, took it back, and they let us get a new one. Great service.

Carrefour use to be pretty good for wine and baked goods. It's gone downhill a bit now that it's Big C Extra, but still not bad.

i like central too Craig but big C extra might be worth another look

the wine department has just been refurbished with a bigger selection of wines
