  1. The most fun one can have with these old news postings is calculating the ratio of banned posters from those posting on the first page. ;D

:o when I got to the 3rd one in a row.... I was wondering exactly the same thing.

    thaimee

    bluecat

    ayakiawe

    Basher

    polo

    kevinN

    kurgen

    begs

    nam kao

    pepe

I do remember this thread as it occurred very shortly after I joined. ... I guess the list also showed me there's not many still current posters left from then.

but geez.... that kevinN took the cake. :D He's not missed in the slightest.

Pity Kurgen got banned, his posts were always entertaining. :D

  2. My only contact with the British Embassy has been when they charged me something like 1200 Baht for a letter to give to immigration, despite the fact that all they did was add my name and passport number to a standard letter (which took a couple of seconds to do). They also released my email address to third parties. Though, to be fair, if I had to work with the sun-burnt, tattooed chavs (and their slapper girlfriends) who fill the place, I'd probably not offer such a great service either.

Chavs and slappers thats no way to speak about her majestys diplomatic staff

I don't know. Chav seems a pretty good description. Anyone remember this?

"A senior British diplomat in Thailand broke through three pairs of plastic handcuffs, threatened to kill fellow airline passengers and abused cabin staff after drinking heavily on a flight to London in the aftermath of the tsunami, a court heard yesterday...At one point he screamed at cabin staff and passengers who tried to restrain him: "You are a fuc_king wanke_r, you're fuc_king dead. Do you know who I am? I'm the head of the British government in Thailand and you're treating me like this.""

    From http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2006/jan/18/politics.ukcrime

Any idea what happened to him?

  3. Have a look at Thai TV, gossip magazines etc.

Certainly an advantage to be "half-blood" if that means your skin is whiter, you are taller and your nose more pointy.

We have two luk krung kids (both below 5 years) at school here and they fit in at school with no problems whatsoever.

I think it is a social advantage to be half thai / half caucasian in Thailand.

Many of the models in advertisements etc are luk krung, they have a good life ahead :o

But they have to have model quality, not all luk kruengs have it. What happens to the rest of them? I suspect they are treated as farangs and are discriminated against.

Depends what you mean by "The rest of them" ??

... The way I see it is that if you were born in Thailand or Farangland with one parent Farang, one Thai. Both parents from respectable backgounds. Have social skills. Have Thai passport. Grow up speaking Thai , but can also speak a foreign language / English to an advanced level. Have good qualifications. Why would you be discriminated against?

Because Thai Rak Thai - not Thai Rak half-Thai!

  5. I don't think that one particular industry (especially considering the relative niche status of the "entertainment" industry: low numbers of positions available, and extremely limited shelf life of said industry) being "open" to luk krungs is indicative of acceptance, integration, or chances of success within a society. Just because blacks are highly representative in the NFL, NBA, and the music industry in the US doesn't mean that most people would be happy to have them at their dinner table or even serving their food.

That may change over time, but for generation one luk krungs, one sticking point is that all too often, if a luk krung is to marry into a good family, one of the first issues that's going to come up is what her parents background is. Politically correct or not, when the future "grandma" is often a former working girl, that often splashes the whole deal and the most that luk krung gal (or guy) can hope for is to be a mia noi/non official partner or to marry down.

    :o

Heng, you are absolutely spot on with this post.

  6. I married a thai from the north east and she's quite dark. We've had a child and he's totally white and takes after me. I would think when he starts school nobody would think he was half thai. I would think if my wife went to pick him up from school his friends would probably ask questions as to who she was. If there were any racial comments it would probably come from the parents of the other children and in turn would pass down to the children at some point and the way things are in this town the parents would think she's a pakistani. There are so many nationallitys in this town i think the question about racism especially in this town in the north of england would probably cancel itself out over the next 10 years and the whites would be the minority.(that's just my opinion). As for bringing him up in Thailand i would think it would be benefical to him and he would be looked at as a superstar and someone who would be better off because of his skin colour and the way Thai's in general which we've noticed through visits are attracted to him.

I think you are very misguided!

  7. I know it's early days yet, but if anyone has an update as to how the lads are doing it would be greatly appreciated. Can't get them out of my head.

hey i know the boys... was such horrible news...

i heard that guy is improving well and has stablised.

jeremy is also improving and is stabilizing... though they are concerned for him as he his injuries were extremely severe and aren't sure what the damage to his brain is...

lets hope we hear more soon!!

Thanks for that lo456. Please let us have any news as you receive it.

  8. Last year I travelled with Etihad Airways, Pearl Business Class, and at Suvarnabhumi airport I was given a pass for the Orchid Lounge, which was OK but nothing special.

I will be travelling again with Etihad in a few weeks time, and have seen on their website that the lounge I should use at Suvarnabhumi is SKY.

Does anyone know which is the better lounge? If they give me a pass for Orchid I don't want to insist on one for SKY if it's no better.

    Thanks.

  10. Just tried to photocopy and I keep getting "Check paper", "Check print cartridge" and a letter E in place of number of copies. I've checked both paper and print cartridge and they are OK. Does anybody know what the problem could be?

    Many thanks.

  11. Why spend a fortune on Yorkies pies?

Concentrate your diet around rice, chicken, eggs and vegetables and fruit. You will save a fortune and be healthy as well.

Without a shadow of doubt the best value buffet breakfast in APEX on Second Road between Soi Diana & Soi Honey. A good tip is to get there at about 9am before the crowds.

Typically I drink about a pint of fruit juice, eat about eight fried eggs and heaps of bacon. Usually there are four plates on my table before I leave and I have infinite cups of coffee.

I have to be honest I'm not hungry until about 8pm in the evening after that big fill, then. Great value. :o:D:D:D:D

  12. I ordered a taxi from Mr. Toom from the airport to Pattaya and it didn't arrive to pick me up.

So I had to throw myself to the vultures.

    Never again.

On a previous thread you said Mr T didn't pick you up from the airport, now you say Mr Toom. Which one is it? I have never had any problems with Mr T.

  13. I am sometimes partial to one particular Mc D burger and have found out an interesting fact.

I presumed all Mc D's in a particular country (ie: USA, Aust,Thailand etc) would have the same pricing for each item.

But as an example my 'Deluxe Cheeseburger' is 48 baht at the Chonburi Highway 7 stop, 49 baht at the North Pattaya Sukhumvit Branch

and 55 baht at the new branch between Soi 5 and Soi 6 on 2nd road.

The Manager told me the different pricing is because of rental prices, ease of getting/retaining staff, delivery costs etc.

So not a great fact but I feel more interesting than many posts on this forum. By the way I think their quickie breakfasts are excellent.

    In YOUR opinion!

  14. From the BBC News website...

"At least 53 people have been killed in a fire in a nightclub in the Thai capital, Bangkok, police said, quoted by Reuters news agency.

More than 100 others were injured in the blaze, which broke out as people took part in New Year's Eve celebrations, the agency reports.

A Thai police official told Reuters the cause had not yet been determined.

A witness told the BBC that he had seen a number of bodies being carried away from the club, named as the Santika.

The witness, Andrew Jones, said survivors leaving the club told him the fire broke out on the stage after fireworks were lit just after midnight.

He said the club was popular with foreigners and locals alike.

The club had only one main exit, at the front, and many people had been trapped inside, he said. "

When will they learn??? This is so tragic and what a horrible start to the New Year.
