  1. aha . . . how can we get more frog and get grid of those ugly toads ? I have both in my garden, and the frogs are really tidy !

I found a 3rd frog and a toad in my garden last night. I think if you live in the city you will be incredibly lucky so see a frog. 11 years and i never saw one. If you want frogs try moving out into the country side, it worked for me :)

  2. I thought i would be safe. I went on a visa run to Cambodia and there was no way i could see the wedding there. We dropped the kids off at grannys house and spent the day in the car and at the border. When we got back to pick up the kids i could not believe my eyes, at granny's house was my wife's Burmese family glued to the box watching the wedding  I think they were quite shocked that i didn't want to sit with them.

  3. I've lived here for 11 years. I love living here. There are plenty of things to winge about every day, but the pluses massively outweigh the minuses. I could go back to the UK and live if i wanted to but i know it will be just as bad or even worse than when i left. I rarely hear expats complain about Thailand because i'm not in the same place as they are. Maybe that's the key to being happy?

IME the one's that whinge the most are the one's that don't have a choice. Stuck here in a business or relationship that is eating them alive (and often where they can't communicate very well with their local counterparts).

    :)

Totally agree. But try to get these guys to admit they don't have a choice!!

  4. Here is a warning for people as stupid as me!

I have just started a new job and need to use software that only runs on Windows XP pro. My company give me a crap computer to work on but i thought it would be nice if i could use my MAcBook Pro for work so i don't have to lug around 2 laptops. Anyway, i heard about Windows7 XP mode and thought it would work. I didn't want to use bootcamp because i didn't want to reboot every time i wanted to change Os's. I bought the latest version of parallels and Windows7 pro and installed them. All ok so far. Then i spent ages trying to download the software for XP mode. This is where everything came to a halt. XP mode runs a virtual machine inside Windows7. Windows7 was a virtual machine inside OsX. This wasn't possible. I contacted parallels help desk somewhere in darkest India and chatted with a guy that was absolutely clueless. I don't believe i was the first to run into this problem. After about 30 minutes of faffing around i was told "you can't do that".

So, in a nutshell, don't try to run XP mode using parallels, it won't work.

  6. HI Rafafan,

Sorry to hear your story. I had a similar problem with my 1.8 petrol engine. At first Ford told me it was my fault but eventually agreed to pay half. Then they stripped the engine and decided they didn't know how to fix it. The car had to be moved to a garage 30 km away so they could do it. In the mean time the engine was in pieces on the back seat! I think it took 3 months to get everything done.

Once the repairs were finished the gear lever stopped working properly as well as a few other minor problems, no one cares about this as is was not the problem in the first place.

I love my Ford Focus, it's a lovely car to drive but the dealers are clueless idiots. I have used 4 different dealers and the best one was in Saraburi, 100km out of Bangkok.

I'll never buy a Ford again thanks to the worthless after sales service.

Oh, by the way, when you get a new engine, it will most likely not have an engine number stamped on it. You will have to go to the registration place and get that done. It's a nightmare!!! Good luck.

  7. I am on my 2nd Thai wife. The first told me at the last minute i had to pay sinsod and i stumped up 500k. I was with her for over a year before we were married. As soon as we tied the knot she showed her true colours. I know i was a mug, but just like most others in that situation, i ignored too many warning signs because i thought i had found someone really special.

This marriage my wife said she did not want a sinsod to show she was not like the past wife. We have been together nearly 3 years and feel the same about each other as we did after being together a month.

In my opinion, Sinsod is one of many Thai traditions that belongs in the past and is stopping Thailand stepping into the modern world.

  8. Macbookpro any time. I bought my first about 6 years ago and i have just upgraded it to a 17". Soon after i bought my first one i also bought an iMac, once you use an operating system other than windows you realise how bad windows it. Now if I have to use a windows machine it feels like going back to my old ZX spectrum.

  9. For me, a goodnights' rest and a good meal before the tattoo session is the only thing. Drugs, alcohol, medication, numbing cream are not recommended. I find that tolerance to pain is greatly improved with a healthy body and mind. You might want to space out the sessions in 3 hr slots....every week or so.

    pluto_manibo,

Thanks for your reply. I don't use anything normally and i had a bad night before my last session, so you are spot on there. Thank you for an intelligent answer. :)

  10. 2 years ago i stayed at a hotel on the corner of soi 16 and beach road. They were very happy to take small dogs and had a big garden to walk your dog, it was less than 2000 per night and was very nice, decent breakfast too.

My wife thinks it was called Natural Park Resort.

  11. I just started a dragon tattoo, it's 9' 4" long and wraps around my leg. The head is on my tummy and the tail just touches my foot. The pain around my knee, (especially on the kneecap), and on my tummy was intense. What do you guys do to cope with the pain? I have many tattoos already but this one just hurt too much.

I just read this and have to tell you something you wont like! ;-)

More tattoos you have/get more pain you will experience!

I am covered my complete upper body and half of my legs and i dicussed this with a few other guys and tattoo artists and they all say the same, more tattoos you get more pain you get!

And there is nothing to do about it...you want to be a tattooed bad ass, then swallow the pain and dont cry!;-)

    peace

My whole back, upper chest, upper arms and left thigh are covered with tattoos, the only part that hurt is the ribcage. The more i got, the less it hurt. My first was in 1985. The dragon didn't really hurt except for the abdomen and the knee. All i wanted to know was if anyone had any hints about pain reduction, not some superhero's bullshit.

Please tell me what a tattooed bad ass is? No one see's my tattoos most of the time other than my wife.

  13. My wife has 2 girls from a previous marriage. They are 7 and 8 years old. Her ex was a farang. Because the kids are half farang, everyone automatically assumes they are mine. If you saw how we act together you would also assume they are mine. They adore me and i adore them. I would not swap them for the world. We are now trying for another child, being surrounded by children that love you is an awesome feeling.

Many of you have said it is crazy to have a relationship with a girl if she already has kids. I didn't go looking for this, i wasn't even looking for a girl when i met my wife. We just clicked and that was that. If you really love someone, you take them as they are, (warts and all). I, like most of you, have plenty of my own faults and issues, my wife accepted all of them. So what is so bad about making a family where not just one person, but 3 of them all love you and all tell you every day?

  14. Does anyone know where i can get a copy (original), of Civ5? My local Apple store doesn't have it and the few sites i have tried to download from will not accept a Thai credit card :(
