  1. Well you old guys , it seems that if you are in good physical condition at age 50 , do not smoke or drink , not overweight or diabetic , your life expectancy is into your 80's with few health problems , keep ' IT ' up , keep excercising and watch what you put in your mouth , you are what you eat .

An ' Old fart ' who is almost there , 80 that is 555

  2. Correction " Whilst I was negotiating a bend in slippery conditions , I failed to noticed I was driving at a speed more relative to dry road conditions , as a consequence , my lack of concentration caused an incident which in all honesty should never have accured "

On hindsight " I intend to become a more conciencious driver in the future and so set an example to other negligent roud users " .

Pain in side caused by deep belly laugh .

Both good, insightful posts from geovalin and dumball.

However I feel that there are a few in the Thai government that see the need for real negotiation with a third party, but they are over-ruled by the PAD sympathisers and the army.

There-in lies the true basic reality of what ails Thailand in a generalised sort of way , too many cooks spoiling the broth that becomes inedible for the masses , those in power appear to work more on individual causes as apposed to collective agreement by elected government .

Similar to a successful marriage , which they should be , a point of compatibility needs to be attained by all of the participants in all and any decision making , pigs require much larger ears for that state to be achieved I fear .

  4. As I recall , I had no true personal thoughts about the matter , just another page in my history , my mother , however , the difficult part of lifes journey climbing the hill of experience is done , now is the time to glide sedately down the other side of the hill , enjoy the journey and use it wisely .

  5. Very strange these reports from within the Thai army personnel about when the action is to be re-started , cannot get much closer the the truth of the matter than that concerning who fires the first shot . Thai report no damage to civilian housing , Cambodians show photos of damaged/destroyed civilian housing , what and whom can one objectively comment on these facts as presented by those on the front line , as apposed to those sitting in an arm chair far enough removed to not personally observe and hear any thing of true worth to report ?

This matter is too serious to be wearing rose tinted spectacles , using selective thought and hearing to denigrate on a whim , just because the truth eludes them . One day in the not too distant future , this ilk of poster will be using hind-sight in their posts , after all , is that not classified as perfect ?

  6. In this good article, TheNation seems to discover that unarmed officials are better than soldiers but, please, remember that Cambodia suggested that a lot of times.

Even the permanent ceasefire the Cambodian wanted had been refused by Thailand.

Thai army needs reasons to buy weaponry but the most important point is that when the border will be delimited (and Preah Vihear will be in Cambodia for sure and possibly a few more square centimeters), the game will be over, the losses will be lost for ever and this is something some people in Thailand cannot accept. The actual non-peace situation, that the Thai likes, keeps a bit of hope to get some square decimeters back.

I believe that both you and the nation have hit this squarely on the head , I have been trying to make this point in various threads , the problem is that even many on this forum cannot see the forest for the trees . The child like thinking of those supposedly in charge of affairs in Thailand have no true concept of what a real debate amongst themselves could achieve , the problem there is quite plain to see from the outside , not one of those who make decisions seem able to make a commitment for the people of their own country , they merely squabble amongst themselves as to whom should get what for their own personal gain .

Stop living in antiquity and come into the world that is today , right here in front of your eyes as plain as the sight of the sun , whilst you are quibbling over the crumbs , your nation is leaving the major part of the loaf for others to take advantage of in the here and now , the eventual losses to Thai will be far greater than a few square metres of scrubland .

  7. All of this claptrap from the Thai PM ready to negotiate an agreement for border settlement , each and every form of negotiation so far has been denied or put off by this same government , too many fingers in this pie on the Thai side , they should just <deleted> or get off the pot .

I don't keep a note of the ages, it's hard enough keeping track of all the names.rolleyes.gif5555

Both age and names alluded me in the majority of passionate interludes , after all is said and done , I was only along for the ' Ride' .

"I do not believe that the Thai army would even think of using poisonous gas or cluster bombs"

Wrong, the whole conflict was started deliberately at breakfast time when the Thai Army Kitchen Squad where making Chao Pat Kra Pao, creating huge gas clouds consisting of fried chilli tear gas, a problem that we are all familiar with. The Cambodian Army which was situated only 100metres away, according to reports, probably thought they were being attacked by poisonous gas, and retaliated with what the Thai Army mistook as rockets and cluster bombs. In fact they were only firing clusters of stale bread rolls and French loaves.

Kapuchea Thmey reported that Thai had fired many rounds containing poisonous gas into Ta Krabey temple compound in an effort to retrieve the bodies of 6 Thai soldiers , they were repelled by Cambodian troops .

  10. Should you want a good hotel in a clean safe area , may I recommend the Comfort star hotel on street 200 , recently rebuilt with extra floors and new furnishings , very clean with large rooms , WiFi , friendly staff , transportation after 2 nights stay , walking distance to riverside/walkabout/monivong for visas etc .

The riverside now boasts a beautiful clean esplanade with garbage bins , for walking or exercising with cooling breezes off the river , a host of good restaurants with a large variation of foods to suit many tastes at reasonable prices , $1.00 for transport around town but you must negotiate before climbing into the tuk-tuk , there are enough of them to take your pick .

I do not know of too many prevalent scams around town , just use your brain power if approached , most citizens are friendly and helpful , many speak and understand English , just come with an open mind and all will be enjoyable .

  11. From all of the years I have read about ownership in Thailand , it would seem that you as a solitary persn cannot own more than the clothes on your back at any given time , there is most always an additional provision that a Thai national is required to be involved that owns MORE than you have purchased with YOUR money . Yes , I have read of many wrinkles to circumvent this legal requirement , the bottom line is , it is not legal for anyone to own a part of Thailand , Thailand is for Thai and most or all of the money you think you have will often be extracted by any means possible .

Strap your penis to your ankle when in dealings for what you wish to own .

  12. ALL FOODS should be thoroughly washed before putting in the fridge for later consumption , meats , fish etc need to be thoroughly cleansed also , then put in the freezer at a temperature no higher than minus 4 degrees for a period of 24 hours to kill off bacteria .

It is your life/health at stake in regards to what you consume , cleanliness cannot be overly stipulated in the preparation of what you put in your mouth , Thai have a great deal to be educated about in regards to food hygiene , especially leaving it un-refrigerated , even after cooking , for too long a time . Hand washing and thorough cleaning of cutting boards is yet another area , a quick swill in cold water is not sufficient for you healths sake , eating out can be hazardous to your health in more ways than one .

I don't think the Cambodians will be able to maintain this rate, they'll be soon short in ammuni

Who supplies Cambodia with this ammunition ?

Could well be a side line of some general to keep the momentum going , has to get the cash for antiquated submarines somewhere , I mean , really , they could move up some hitherto unkown river or two and attack from behind , that would prove beyond a doubt the firing started on the Cambodian side , not so dumb after all .

    555------------------lol

  14. When a man runs out of money and can no longer get it up , he will regret not taking advantage of what had cum along .

If your'e here after what I think youre after , you'll be here after i'm gone .

  15. An amazing thing here is that no one picked up on the MEDICAL building being set on fire , in a riot , people from BOTH sides get injured , do all of the rioters wear special amulets to prevent injury ? Just goes to show the non-thinking of these wanabee immigrants , who needs that type anywhere other than others of the same ilk .

  16. Now I am contemplating the real reason the Thai army refused observers in the front line , to allow them to re-open the conflict and once again point fingers at Cambodia who have accepted ALL proposals to ensure a peace agreement can be reached when and IF the Thai can reach an agreement between themselves as to whom is actually running the affairs of Thailand .

The lake residents are squatters and have been offered good compensation or alternative accommodation in PP .

  17. Some asked about hotel ? Comfort star hotel on street 200 , recently all rebuilt with new furnishings , friendly helpful staff , WiFi , easy walking distance to Lucky-Lucky travel on Monivong and river side with its beautiful esplanade (No pot holes) , clean safe area , free transport after two days $18.00 per night .

Visitors from Thailand recently were very happy .

  18. So , will the young ladies who bared their breasts to bring some excitement to the celebration and are being brought to justice , now be exonerated from their misdemeanor and handsomely rewarded for bringing these dastardly goings on to the light of day ? Will the owners of the establishment be brought to justice at the highest level possible for their criminal activity , of course , along with ALL of the police members who aided and abetted such a criminal element to exist in the first place .?

I would hold my breath , but my lung capacity is not as huge as a zeppelins .

  19. I would not worry too much young man , concentrate on your studies , all is well , for all of the multi suggestions here by the Falang community on how to rectify all that ails your homeland , there is still no one of importance paying any heed .

  20. Easier and more effective to put an awning above the window , I have reflective shield on a couple of widows and it does reduce heat penetration with a small loss of light . 6m.m clear plastic sheet on a frame works well placed outside of the window with about a 4/5 cm spacing between window and plastic . With cement walls it helps to paint with heat reflective material unless you have cavity walls with insulating material in the space between walls , cement holds the heat for a long time .

As everybody in Thailand knows: Not only the university degree is for sale but also the government job or position for which they need the degree is for sale.

    to be fair ..............

cop, solider, civil servant, politician are all.... in the set.....

When my ex g/fs brother + another guy they knew applied for the BIB. G/fs father had the right amount of money (I forget how much), the other guy had all the necessary qualifications. Brother passed, other guy didn't.

On an aside note, I remember my father telling me that when he left school and started work as an apprentice Green Grocer? His mother had to pay the shop to take him on, also he had to work for some time without pay. This is in the UK?

    jb1

Actually , that was rescinded in the late forties , when my father took me for a job interview to discus his payment , the owner said they had to pay me a wage which would be commensurate with any abilities shown , my mother was quite relieved as we were quite a poor family .
