  1. A good business will charge as much as they can and if they get enough customers through the door why should they reduce their prices. The more they can charge the less customers through the door they need to make a profit which means that they are never over stretched and can keep on time with there appointments giving better service which is why people pay extra

  2. Last month I took my daughter to the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for her immunization injections which cost 1,800 Baht; I was told she must have the same injection again next month.

I returned and saw the same doctor for the same 10 second chat, the same nurse that gave the last injection; but when I went to pay the cost was 2,500 Baht. I questioned this and showed them last months invoice; they charged 650 for the doctor 300 baht more and another 400 baht more for the drugs.

I refused to pay the extra; and after great discussion they discounted the invoice to the same price as last months. They then stated next time asks the price before you come. I was very angry and told them you can not cheat the people by just charging what you think.

I assume the doctor gets a % of what they charge, and I know very well they double the cost of drugs. I also assume most people will never question their cost, but for me this kind of cheating is a disgrace and needs attention.

I am sure I am not the only person that have been cheated, but to what extent are they cheating?

Dental Cleaning For 1350 Baht At Pattaya Hospital, Reasonable Fee???????????????

sorry, I'm wearing out my mouse with the cutting and pasting... there's a bunch more

Did you read these posts that you quoted I guess not the first one on your list was not a complaint about being overcharge but a comment on there honesty at BHP it also shows that the medication that was received was not expensive at all.

Read the comments after the OP.... :o

I just have read it again as the O/P I suggest you look again at the posters and I think that you will find it very balance except for one poster that might have a justifiable complaint but I think might be exaggerating a little bit (may be a bit more that a little) if what was supposed to of happened to him happened to me that hospital would not have heard the last of it and not just on Thia Visa

  4. Just back from hospital for here final checkup and to have stiches out when I check the bill 2 tubes of ointment was 640B check prices on internet the cheapest I could get them for was 700B plus delivery

30 paramed tablets cost 30B I cannot find a price for them on the Internet but I do not think they can be making much profit on them

  5. May we suggest you go with an insurance company based in S.E.A. if you need 'International' cover as they will be easier to deal with the hospitals in Thailand ?

Yes I can understand what you say but I am having trouble with Language problems while I might do this for my Thai G/F and baby I am finding it difficult to get an efficient agent in Thailand or it might be just that they do not understand me and what I require

  6. All I can say is that I was not insured I was asked for a deposit of 75% which was asked for after the operation to deliver baby I did not have to show what I had in the bank (incase of any emergencies) I was not treated as a poor relation at any time I can only talk about what happened and what I saw which I was happy with. Price is subjective what a poor person thinks is expencive a rich person might think is cheap

  7. The only reason somebody should go to a hospital in Pattaya is for emergency services or care. Other than that, you should go to Sathip (Spell Wrong) Navel Hospital. It is a huge complex that is a 45 minute drive from Pattaya.

You will receive excellent care at approximately 1/20 of the cost of the care in Pattaya. That is correct, you read that right, and the cost at this hospital is 5% of the cost of a hospital in Pattaya.

They offer a full service of service, have first class doctors, (Many of them are the same that will be treating you at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital) and exceptional range of up to date medical technologies.

I was just wondering if you use Sattahip because it is the best that there is or because it is cheap I guess that it must be because it is the best after reading your second reply it cannot be because it is cheap I would guess that if you employ all these people and do so much for the Thai economy you cannot be short of money I would also like to ask how many hospitals in Thailand you have had to stay in for a few days

The other thing that you do not take into account is time and convenience a 90 minute round trip plus any waiting time which I have read here that happens at this hospital could mean up to half a day wasted (which I would have thought would be important to you being a business man) may be OK for a one trip complaint but for ongoing care which sometimes means weekly visits I have better things to do in my life than sit in any hospital

  8. I had an operation a few years back in BPH. The surgeon told me roughly what it would cost, and the hospital charged my credit card with that amount. Once the operation was finished (successfully, I'm glad to say), they could then calculate exactly how much it had cost and how much the medications would cost, and it was less than the original estimate. They refunded the difference in cash on the spot. :o

I'd assumed that this was a general policy, overcharge people a bit up-front in case of complications, then give them a refund when the dust has settled?

The heading was a bit "tongue in cheek" against a thread a few weeks ago that was implying that this was one of the hospitals that very often came out much more expensive because they always had extras to add on and I just thought that my experiences even things up a bit I know to some people the price they charge is excessive when you see the room that we had which was in my opinion was as good as a hotel like the Woodlands Hotel and the service just as good I did not think so

I do not think it was a case of overcharging in my case I think that we were charged as 2 separate operations where in fact it was only 1 cut but two separate things done so we only needed to be charged for extra theatre and doctors time

  9. The only reason somebody should go to a hospital in Pattaya is for emergency services or care. Other than that, you should go to Sathip (Spell Wrong) Navel Hospital. It is a huge complex that is a 45 minute drive from Pattaya.

Thanks for you advice but you always have to take in the whole picture being that this was an ongoing thing I wanted the same doctor to see the whole thing through I do not drive so if she had a problem during pregnancy it meant a long drive which i did not want also if you think that was expensive compared to England it is oh so cheap I had a Carpal Tunnel operation in England 2 years ago, 15 minute in operating room (not theatre) bed for 4hrs which cost 10% more than both having a baby and a cyst removed with 4 days in hospital where they made up a bed for me to stay there as well the total cost was just over 52000B including extra hearing test I think that Sataship (spelling) would of struggled to do that for 2600B

  10. I had a estimate for my G/F for a C-Section and to have a cyst removed of 82000B thought it was a bit expensive but was not going to change doctors 6 days before baby due so I accepted it. After 4 days when we were leaving I when to pay it took them forever to sort out the bill I thought many extras but no the bill was the same as estimate plus a test that I asked for. About ten minutes after we got home the hospital ring and asked if I could go back because they had overcharged me by nearly 26000B and I needed to get my money It was a bit of a surprise but I was going to query the amount when I saw the doctor on Saturday but pleased that they where honest and I do not need to

  11. Fear not – Thai Visa Insurance does not 'promote' Liberty Insurance motor (general insurance) products. We shall look into this and let you know of any findings.

Toyota/LMG : as we have explained on several occasions, the vehicle dealers do 'deals' with their preferred insurance suppliers in return for commissions when they sell the 'free' insurance to new owners. The coverage on these so called 'free' insurances are in many cases quite low in order to enhance the returns to the dealer. With the risk of banging the drum again, buy your insurance from a licensed broker !

Is this part of the Liberty Mutual Insurance Group

  12. I have been taking advantage of these "discounted" checkups for the last 5 years. I think that they are a good value and the service has always been good. I am also not a big fan of BPH but for this it is fine. My only complaint would be the Dr. you see after all the results have come back. He just seems disinterested and going thru the motions. I have rectified this by choosing an internist to go over all my test results. They gladly accomodated me on this request.

I agree about the doctor I had a checkup for insurance purposes the doctor forgot to mention that I was Hep C positive (it seems that I do not have Hep C after further tests) which he admitted when I went back to ask him about it and still did not tell me about the spondylolisthesis that I found out about when I read the X-ray report He seemed more concerned about my cholesterol and blood pressure being to high (which I do not have I check myself at home)

  13. Does anybody know what's happened to Banglamung Cable TV? All the English programmes have gone! I've been trying since yesterday to contact them by 'phone, but it's constantly engaged.

Back on now BBC ch44 BTV English 58 + others

  14. I'm miserable with mozzie bites.

Some of things I've tried and have had some successes with:

Fan outside the door to blast the ones that tries to sneak in with a human.

White-painted door and white mesh screen. Easy to see the buggers.

Check every screen, window, and door for leakages/openings. Even the ceiling light fixtures.

Spray the screen with citronella oil or anti mozzie liquids (don't use DEET, it'll melt the plastic screen :D )

Cover drains (many homes here don't have U type turns in the plumbings).

Have a light colored walls and floor, easier to see the bastards.

    Tennis zappers in every room.

Listerine spray for outdoor sitting areas.

Keep the bedroom door closed all the time, day and night. Also paint door white.

Mosquitoes net for bed (don't like this one, but will use if a mozzie somehow infiltrate the room defenses and I can't find him)

Keep those ideas coming. I'm always looking out for more.

Now, can someone give some thoughts about the ants?

    :o

Moved into rented house last October every month the Landlady has a pest control man visit sprays all round the floor of all the inside and outside walls and in the floor there are metal inserts which he fills up I have not seen an ant since I have been here

  15. To some considerable degree, I'm willing to cough up because the odds of finding a woman some 40 years younger than myself back home are not even worth thinking about. I think all you can really do is to set a limit on how much you're prepared to put into the pot as it were and make sure you don't exceed that figure. If she's not happy with it, then she's probably a gold digger and better that the two of you split up now and go your separate ways before you get hurt.

That can be difficult sometimes especially if you're older. Time is not on our side unfortunately and there will come a time when travelling across several continents will become impossible due to ill health. So make the most of it while you can even if it does cost you a small fortune. After all, when the time comes for you to depart these shores, you won't be able to take your remaining assets with you now will you? :o

I am in the same boat as you time is not on my side and loneliness is always round the corner. I always tell any new lady that I will not marry her, I will not buy a house in Thailand and all my money stays in the UK and then I try to treat the financial side like a business the more that I get out of the relationship the more that I am liable to invest it (upto what I can afford) seems to work in my case

  16. Thanks I.O. This is probably the most concise and to the point answer I've seen in a while. Can anyone tell me that they have done this procedure recently as I.O. relates and at what immigration office did this take place. Thanks again.

I managed to get it all done in one day at Pattaya but I had to return 3 days later for my passport (should have been next day but it was over the weekend) just took all the paperwork for changing to "O" Visa and for the extension to the "O" Visa did not ask for it to be done just give the Immigration officer all the paperwork in a folder and let him decide what to give me That was on 4th Dec 2008 extension good to 4 March 2010
