I've a thickish beard. Bic 3 blade. Buy at Tesco 89-105b for 3. I'm good.

I'm glad it works for you.

There was one time when I had to unexpectedly spend the night away from home for work.

I bought a Bic razor from the 7 Eleven. My face was covered in razorburn(?) - red raw all over my beard area.

    Never again.

Makro are great in this respect.

I nearly always have a purse full of coins (including satangs).

I've never bothered to recognise the difference in satangs - and so just tip a bunch of coins in my hand for the cashier to pick out the satangs necessary and, when the cashier notices, they immediately offer to change my coins to notes.  Presumably satangs are a continuing problem at Makro!

A 'satang jar' is a great idea.

Yes, I save them for my son. Took over a year to save 300 Baht's worth.

Big C will change them too.

Go to a bank to change them and you have to sellotape them into (I think) 10 Baht blocks first. Then they will charge you a fee for the privilege of changing them too.

Not all offices will process mail reports for some bizarre reason. But, IMO, if you send the report by mail, and it’s received by the office concerned, you’ve complied with the law.

Very true. It's just if it goes wrong it can be pain to sort out.

In my case at Udon immigration perhaps six years ago, I mailed it to them by EMS and received nothing back.

A few weeks later I had to go into immigration for something else.

I went to the 90 day desk, where the girl there initially claimed I was late and there was a fine. I proceeded to tell her I'd mailed the report in time. Her response, without even checking anything, was just to say they hadn't received it.

I showed her a copy of the EMS slip and the date it was delivered to immigration. She refused to accept that, saying she would need to know who signed for it, telling me it required visiting to the post office in town. (This was when Udon immigration were based at the airport for a year.)

Fortunately, my wife was with me. She called the post office, giving them the tracking number. They told her over the phone who had signed for it. Went back up to the 90 day desk five minutes later and told the girl the name of the recipient. She point at another female in the office, blaming her. Only then did she process my now-late 90 day report, giving me 90 days from the current day.

It’s nothing to do with “cash-generation”!

The increased enforcement is down to more of us living/staying in private residences, and due to security concerns following the Bangkok bombing.

I’m not denying there's a genuine reason behind it. However, I tend see it more cynically,

I’m not going to say where this was, but when my friend was extending his permission to stay, he was fined 800 Baht for not having filed a TM30. He paid it without even querying why he had to pay, rather than the landlord.

Another time when he was two days later than the stamped date for his 90 day report, the IO told him he had to pay 2,000 Baht for being late, although we’re allowed to do it 15 days before or 7 days after the date stamped. He paid up.

There do seem a lot of other people who have an aversion to going to immigration and would rather pay the money in order to get out of the building quicker. I know a couple of others with the same attitude.

It obviously isn’t right, but you almost can’t blame some unscrupulous IOs who can’t believe foreigners will throw money at them for the flimsiest of excuses.

Didn’t I read on here that Jomtien immigration are fining people 1,600 Baht for not filing a TM30, or have I got that wrong?

In additiond to the marriage certificate, you might also be asked for a Kor-Ror 2. This is a form which is supplied by your local amphur. It basically confirms that you are still married. Cost is around 20 baht. It's worth getting it because you know you will be asked for it if you don't have it.

Yes, sod's law coming into force there!

    Thanks for the replies.

Out of interest, why did you need the housebook translated into English?

As someone else who had to get a housebook translated into English, it was for my brother-in-law when applying for a Schengen visa.

I took plenty of extra documents just in case, when I went to the embassy with him, but not a translation of his housebook, only the original Thai one. The embassy decided on the day that they wanted an English translation, as an extra supporting document.

Had to get it done at an approved translation service near the embassy, but had no opportunity to get a copy for reference.

Making it tough for the rest of us when you give them ideas to enforce some ridiculous law.

I think you're being unfair here.

This law has been around for decades, it was immigration themselves who more recently began and 'enforced the ridiculous law'. I'd go as far as to say it's probably a cash-generating scheme to earn money for them.

I can't honestly see them taking note of the fact some people have been filing the forms in the past.

Thanks so much for your fast reply.

I see they're being sold for 259 Baht. That seems to be the same price as on the Watsons website here:  http://www.watsons.co.th/watsons-men-5-blade-razor-with-trimmer-blade-cartridge./p/BP_263876?text=razor&page=0

I wonder how they manage to sell for the same price as Watsons shop?

I have used the Gillette Mach3 for years. I have two spare blades left. (edit: I see 4 blades for this are 549 Baht in Big C)

Going on the positive reviews of the Watsons brand, as I haven't tried one yet it looks like I'll need to buy the blade handle - that comes with one cartridge (also at 259 Baht).

  9. The OP said he ordered the Watson shavers from Lazada.

Now I know someone asked for a link and another member kindly provided one, although that was a link to all razors, and there's thirteen pages of them.

Perhaps I missed the Watson ones and they are indeed somewhere on those pages, I don't know?

Has someone got a link specifically to these Watson razors by any any chance?

    Thanks.

  10. My visa extension is a Non O based on marriage. There's a possibility of a job on the horizon.

While I realise I can apply for a work permit with my Non O status, is this accepted by all labour offices, or is it, to use that well known phrase, 'at the discretion of the issuing officer'?

I live up country at the moment, with my extension from the local immigration office. Is that likely to have any effect on an initial WP application, as the labour office will be one of those in Bangkok (I don't know which particular one).

If it comes to the point I do need to apply for a WP, if I'm refused on the Non O basis, I'll have the hassle of applying for a Non B.

Nope, Buriram & Kap Choeng don't. Neither mail nor online. Exxxtremely old fashioned, but friendly...

OK, thanks for putting me straight.

I'd assumed that all offices would accept mailed reports as part of their job.

When you say 'online' do you mean the IO has no access to the enter the data on the immigration system for that particular office, or did you mean that they don't have their own local system for people to do 90 day reporting online?

I read recently that those living on Koh Samui can do that, using a local immigration system independent of the main BKK immigration database. I'd think something like that is out of the ordinary though?

Have done my 90 day reports by mail for almost 5 years (registered mail EMS). Never any problems..

Depending on where you live in the sticks, make sure beforehand that your local Immi-Office accepts 90 day reporting by mail.

Elite Visa or 1 year extensions make no difference. Just make sure that you send in your 90 day reports by registered mail every time and keep your postal records.

    Cheers.

I'm curious as to why you would need to check if an immigration office accepts 90 day reports by mail.

    Surely they all do?

Having said that, a few years ago I had a problem at Udon, as I was going to be away from home for one particular report date. They received my mail, but didn't bother to process it.

Baffling really. Are you saying that in a yellow TB you can't be an occupant/dweller?

    Certainly not, no.

    OK, thanks.

BTW, my "Baffling really" was to do with the the description the amphur had put in my yellow TB. It wasn't regarding your comment.

I should have put the two sentences on separate lines. Just in case you perhaps thought I was disputing what you had said.

  14. 2 hours ago, Tanoshi said:

    Your described as the ''Tenant''.

Right, I assumed it would be the same as occupant.

Baffling really. Are you saying that in a yellow TB you can't be an occupant/dweller?

The staff who did my registration added that without mentioning it.

I say that because the plot the TB is for doesn't even have a house on it at that address. My wife used it originally to get her own house registration, then added me on later. As I mentioned earlier we live in her sister's house at another address.

Thanks again for posting the translation.

There are only two possibilities for the status of a Thai in a Blue Tabien Baan.

    1. Jao Baan เจ้าบ้าน Host, householder, master.

    2. Poo Assai ผู้อยู่อาศัย The dweller.

A Thai can only be registered at one address.

I have full English translations of Tabien Baans if they would be of any interest to anyone.

Yes please, it would be useful.

Will you post it here or do you want me to send you a pm?

I see I'm described as ผู้อาศัย without the อยู่ on my yellow TB, but that's not any different really, just being finicky I think.

A copy of her sisters TB and ID card should be sufficient and save a POA.

If your wife is named in the book, a copy of the TB and her ID will be acceptable.

To be slightly pedantic, on your first line above, the TM30 won't be signed by the housemaster. so the signatures won't be the same (unless I got her to pre-sign a few TM30s) . It's no hassle taking a copy of the POA.

My wife and I have our TBs at a different address.

I think if previous TM30 was done "owner via POA" then the office may expect the same next time. I get the feeling they reluctantly accept the possessor reporting only if owner is not available.

Then again its very dependant on the position of Mars, relative to Jupiter, in the night sky.

They don't check on previous TM30 reports from what I've seen. It's all good fun anyway, and as you suggest Uranus could well be involved.

    Night sky - night John-boy.

Technically yes, as the possessor but dependant on local IO and what documents they may require.

Thanks to you and UJ for the reply.

I come under Udon immigration, they're pretty reasonable.

If I take a copy of the the rental agreement and a TM30 with me the next time, I'll give it a go and see what happens.

Being organised, in case it was refused I'd also take a TM30 my wife filled in, along with a POA she has from the owner (her sister). That was OK last time.

All the thousands of people who give them alms every morning.

You should never say bad things about monks, very bad karma.

As my wife said when I passed a monk as we were on our motorbike:

"You should give them plenty of room. It's bad luck to kill a monk."

To which I replied that I thought the monk would be the one with more bad luck, if he died.

Under the immigration act the responsibility lies with the House Master, who by definition is the chief possessor. Which implies that the responsibility to inform is with one person.

    Definitely.

But I've seen posts on here where the person applying for an extension has paid, because otherwise their application wouldn't be processed, and trying to get a missing housemaster to do it would be more time and trouble.

What was the reasoning on apportioning liability on your 15yr old daughter? Is she the Housemaster, owner or possessor. I understand that she is resident at the address, but what criteria do immigration use to determine which person is liable for the fine, where the housemaster/owner is present but not the same person to the alien who is required to register.

Being cynical, they will just find the weakest person willing to pay, as resurrecting this old regulation appears to be a money-making opportunity.
