  1. You can't just update 'your' TM30. The TM30 'belongs' to the accommodation/address. So if your new place is already registered in the TM30 system, you need the login details to do it yourself. Otherwise you need the owner to do it or to give you the documents to do the registration of the residence in the online system yourself.
  2. Well, they have made that promise. But that could be tested by how determined they are to get Thaksin back and he is to come back. Agreed that Settha could pass as PM. But if there is a game going on in the background, it could be that the senate doesn't vote to accept him with MF in a coalition. Without MF, it could be that Settha gets the vote and Prawit is happy with some other position. Any scenario like this will have been worked out well ahead not simply a reaction to events as they unfold. The best thing would be for Pita to win the vote or else an even stronger advantage goes to PT.
  3. Pita can't get the votes to become PM. PT given the chance, but first say they will keep Move Forward in their government line up. Senators not voting for the PT candidate for PM because they still have MF in their government. PT saying that to get around this, they won't have MF in their government and form a new coalition with Palang Pracharath, Bhumjaithai etc. Prawit becomes PM. Thaksin returns to Thailand.
  4. I was once amazed to receive a phone call from a very friendly CW officer, who told me that she would reject my 90-day report because I hadn't put the first name in, even though it's not shown as a required field. She told me to re-send the form after getting the rejection. She also said that if you usually put in your middle name when you submit, you should keep doing so.
  5. She's a Kasikorn employee. And so she gave him the correct information that Kasikorn is currently not doing it for foreigners.
  6. I paid a hotel in dollars for a price quoted in dollars a few weeks ago. And a Lao national I know just paid Thai baht for land in the capital that had a price quoted in baht. Do you think Lao state owns all the land there? Talk to Lao nationals and see if they've never heard of land prices quoted in baht.
  7. Quite a lot of transactions in Laos like land purchases or hotel stays may be priced and paid for in dollars or baht.
  8. This seems like quite a nice summary of the situation: https://twitter.com/RussInCheshire/status/1668897529818148864?s=20
  9. What % of the vote did far right parties get in Ukraine's most recent elections?
  10. Cummins, Kinginger, and Wilkinson are only talking about fluency? And focus on children? The critical period hypothesis means adults no longer have the same acquisition capabilities of children. It's actually widely accepted based on the research evidence. Check out the first few chapters of Long 2015 for a very detailed look at the evidence on the main approaches. There are plenty of foreigners in Thailand immersed in local areas with a lot of input similar to Thai children, who barely pick up any of the language. Anyway, I'm certainly not going to argue that synthetic approaches through grammar rules, vocabulary lists etc. are any good. Completely natural learning is a much better option than that yet still relatively inefficient. You actually gave a kind of mini lesson in the approach that research shows is the most effective (also Long 2015) when you gave the example of friend and probably shows why the OP feels he could benefit with a teacher. Genuine communicative interaction, still giving the adult implicit learning capabilities chance to function, and you giving explicit feedback that allows your friend to notice and adapt accordingly. That's a good example of the analytic approach I feel.
  11. Actually all the research shows that immersion and completely natural language is a very inefficient way for adults to learn a new language. Adults don't learn a new language in the same way that children do. There are critical periods where adults lose the ability for incidental learning to the extent that children have, not completely but natural language learning on its own becomes much less efficient.
  12. She followed the law the completely. Full details of the story all over Thai media, TV etc. She engaged with the man and he claimed on several occasions that he had family members who would buy the property back from her. She gave him opportunities to do this and followed all legal steps that she should have done. The problem for her was that the officials who should have dealt with the problem didn't do so. She'd met and communicated with him before but on this occasion it turned out fatal for her. The woman's daughter also lost her father just a few months ago.
  13. If they want a criminal background check, they won't be requesting it themselves for people doing visa renewals. It's not a free service and they still have to go to the trouble of fingerprinting you. Less trouble for them and a money-maker for the Forensic Science Center. It can sometimes be a busy place as taxi drivers, public transport drivers etc. need it for their licences. I've heard some immigration offices require it for annual extensions for school teachers?
  14. If they're sending him to the "Police Forensic Science Center" it's for a police records check not just getting fingerprints on file.
  15. I went to the Kasikorn branch today and they confirmed they are only doing the face scan for Thai customers at the moment, as it says in the KPlus app.
  16. Why? They're doing their job. The other part is your responsibility. You could say it would have been nice if he'd noticed and remarked. But why call his competence into question when it's your mistake?
  17. I've never met a vendor that minds at all about cutting a little window out and letting you give it a little prod. I like them quite firm and it's never been a problem to try again if they've opened one (or two) that's too soft. Apparently it's going to be another few weeks before the next main crop comes in and prices will go back down to normal.
  18. I love durian but there seem to be shortages this year. It was a regular price of 120-150 baht/kilo a few weeks ago. I had a couple of the mon thong variety but then they disappeared. I have a friend who sells them and he couldn't get a supply. Then a day or two ago I saw a vendor selling at 220 baht/kilo.
  19. This fits with what I've seen in my area. The little hotels that were set up to receive the Chinese tours are getting quite a lot of Chinese and other nationalities who are independent travellers but no sign of the tour buses. I'm not a fan of our condo units going to short-term tourists but a very pleasant Chinese family got in the lift the other day. I received a very warm greeting in English from the daughter, who must have been 6 or 7 years old. The father said they were in Bangkok for a few nights before going to Phuket. Their first trip out of China since the pandemic. Asked for some recommendations about where to eat in the area and thanked me for the suggestions, friendly and polite.
  20. Down my end of Sukhumvit, there's a lot of independent Chinese travellers around at the moment. Youngish people and families. But so far the tour buses haven't returned.
  21. A total of 3 sightings in Thai Andaman waters.
  22. What infighting? So far the coalition parties have signed an MoU agreeing on core policies. All the other talk is from outside at the moment.
  23. Yes, it's sent registered post. You can check the tracking code in the online system. It takes 3-4 days. If you own more than one vehicle, you can add them all to the same account once you've registered.
