Chiang Mai AQI Is Already Over 100
koolkarl replied to koolkarl's topic in Air Pollution in Thailand
Last night is was 114 at Meechok Plaza. And 100 at 7 am this morning. -
And it is only Dec. 1. I know this topic has been beaten to death but nothing happens.. Tourists have to be ignorant of this polluted air to come here at all. Between the changes in the tax situation and the never ending air pollution that seems to get worse each year, I am fed up.

In this country, you are either an immigrant, a citizen or a tourist. As most of you are aware, anyone staying here more than 180 days a year is considered a tax resident and must file a tax return reporting any incoming remittances to Thailand. Most retirees are not immigrants or citizens. What is the legality of a tourist having to file a tax return here?

Taxation of Ex-Pats pensions etc.
koolkarl replied to LittleBear57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Whoever received the inward remittance will have to report it on a Thai tax return including your Thai wife. Already in effect for 2023 which has to be reported by March or April 2024. -
Taxation of Ex-Pats pensions etc.
koolkarl replied to LittleBear57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
If you were living in Thailand more than 180 days during 2023 and you received funds from outside Thailand, this amount is supposed to be included in a Thai tax return and filed by March or April 2024. This carries on year after year until changed. I believe any pensions sent into Thailand will be accounted for on the Thai tax return for double taxation. Because of this CRS agreement, eventually Thailand will make you report all world income on your Thai tax return. And in return, you will still not be a landed immigrant, no health care, just a 1 year tourist. Is that worth staying here? -

Inflation rate in Thailand dips for first time in over two years
koolkarl replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Why doesn't the government publish exactly how they calculate this rate? And are the components exactly the same as prior reports? There is incredible inflation in Thailand and deflation is needed to get prices back to where they were originally. -
As of last month, Thailand is an active member of OECD and the CRS agreement in place with many countries. They have to adhere to the OECD standards which means anyone who resides in Thailand more than 180 days a year is a tax resident and will eventually have to file a tax return here reporting their world income. They will likely do this in stages. But if you have to file a tax return here eventually, they should make you a legal immigrant and provide healthcare, etc. Otherwise you pay and get nothing. As for myself, adios Thailand. I will spend my money elsewhere.

Then start with a proper, honest election if that is possible. -

Thailand, Singapore Ready to Enhance Multifaceted Cooperation
koolkarl replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
CRS agreement is at the top of the list. All Thai residents who have a Singapore bank account will now have their total assets and annual income in Singapore, automatically reported to the Thai tax department and visa versa. This is done each year. Start packing. -
Public Warned Not To Buy Counterfeit Flu Medicine Amid Severe Outbreak

Likely called covid and it is ironic that the 5 fold increase in cases coincides with hordes of Chinese here again. -
PM Reassures Digital Wallet Project Will Be Implemented
koolkarl replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The appointed dictator has spoken and so Thailand is on its way to be completely cashless in time. Along with CRS agreements already active with most countries, the world has become a much smaller place thanks to Obama who started all of this CRS business. I always dream if I could become a US congressman.... -
Thailand’s inflation for September falls to 0.30%
koolkarl replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If you believe this figure, then you like believe in the tooth fairy. Inflation is more like 10% per annum here for years. Thai interest are so low that the baht should be 100 to the dollar. All manipulated. -
Thailand’s digital wallet project: Green light to make cash splash
koolkarl replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Wake up. This scheme is just a teaser to get people used to a cashless country which it will become soon enough. Then your friendly politicians will have completed total control over you and your money if it is within an OECD CRS country.. Thailand now has active CRS agreements with just about every country including Cypress, China and Cayman Islands. Time to look elsewhere.
