  1. Not during Covid, when drinkers didn't want to be seen by the boys in brown.
  2. Not just GBP, I also have a USD account with them and other currencies are available. Can make payments from anywhere into it and to anywhere out from it. It's on SWIFT, CHAPS and the other one, can't remember the name. Transfers to and from UK accounts free, but overseas payment outwards are charged. Free ATM in UK, and also when paying by card PIN or contactless. Other difference? No problem for non-UK residents or any other Nationality to open an account, although not sure about USA as they seem to have problems everywhere 'cos of FACTA.
  3. How could I have forgotten the Wombat! Used to spend time in there during Covid, hard on the knees going up to the rooftop bar.
  4. Walkabout Creek used to be good but I don't think it's there anymore ? Corner of South and Third. The Boxing Roo along Third Road if that still exists?
  5. Is your HSBC account offshore or in UK? I used to have an offshore account with HSBC and had a credit card which was issued from UK. When I needed a new credit card HSBC UK refused to send it to Thailand so I had them send it to my offshore bank address who then sent it to me in Thailand. Their refusal was based on Thailand not being a secure location for delivery, although I never had any problems receiving my cards when HSBC offshore sent them. HSBC would however send my credit card to Seoul Korea where I lived for a while, and on three separate occasions I never received it, even when having HSBC in Seoul instruct HSBC UK to send the card to them for me to collect in person. I closed my HSBC offshore account eventually but kept the credit card active and guess what, come time for renewal HSBC UK had no problem sending me the card to Thailand!
  6. That's the bank I use. Excellent bank. Can't issue credit cards but you can get a debit card.
  7. Arriving Bangkok next week with an Asean passport so visa-exempt. Is it necessary to get an eVisa online before arrival? Or just rock up to airline and immigration with said passport and all will be OK? I ask because it was necessary to get one to enter Indonesia even though visa exempt.
  8. Thanks guys
  9. So was his son!
  10. Been using Jack as my insurance broker for 30 years.
  11. I guess they introduced an A Level curriculum 'cos they were losing too many students to Rugby School. It would be interesting to have the numbers that took the A Level course. And what the highest IB grade is.
  12. Anyone know of one? Or a jewellery shop that does their own repairs? Have an item that basically needs 'welding' or whatever fancy name a silversmith may use.
  13. My Thai Farmers Bank card works in any ATM I've tried it in. Both in Ha Noi and HCMC. So don't see that you'll need to specifically go to SCB branch to use it
  14. That's where I went. There's also a new one if you continue down Thappraya towards Jomtien from the corner of Thepprasit. I was recommended Lifecare on Third Road but their website is confusing and I wanted specific additional testing done so I checked out the other 2 as they were walking distance from me.
  15. Guy the Belgian Butcher at KPN on Soi Town in Town. He'll get it for you if he doesn't have it. Could probably make Prosciutto Cotto for you unless there's any real need to do it yourself?
