  1. Quick update from this morning: Arrived 07:30 to find 22 people already in line. Waited one hour and then they started letting people in. I was first in line for retirement extension (800K in FD acc.), back out around 08:40. Totally painless, spent the hour waiting chatting with some nice people (hello there guys!). I was given the 3 months "show us your money"-form, and told come back Friday after lunch to pick up passport. So now 2+ days. But as we can see, no need to queue for that (nor for showing the money), and I can do 90-day outside afterwards, so good to go for another year.
  2. Yeah, I was there this morning 09:00 after bank visit to check the situation, and get ID pics, copies, etc., in preparations for the "big day" tomorrow (ret. ext.). I asked a guy near the front of the queue and he said he had been there for around an hour, with probably another 10-15 minutes to go. I also asked an officer about my booking for 09:15 tomorrow and he said just forget about it and queue up with the great unwashed hordes ????. Oh well, a pity since the booking experience was first rate, I even got a reminder this morning. But I guess I can practice my meditation technique then ????
  3. Thanks Joe. I will ask the gatekeeper when I go for pics and copies the day before about going straight in.
  4. Can someone who has actually used this booking system for retirement extension recently help to settle this question? I made a booking just now before I noticed this post. I picked "Retirement purpose" since that seemed kind of obvious to me, but hey, I have been wrong before! And I got instant reply with confirmation (for a slot next week, the one I requested). So this was a nice surprise if it works so well. Please let it be true! SO: Is it "Retirement purpose" or "Long-term extension"? AND: Can I with a printed copy of the confirmation e-mail in my hand just bypass the queue and walk straight to the front desk (or desk 8)? Thanks for replies based on your own recent experience, not on speculation (or assumed logic) please.
  5. Thanks, I guess if you applied for a tax ID before getting the yellow book/pink ID they might be different. I got the pink ID card when I didn't have a tax ID already. I will go and check this out with my wife to translate, she has experience with these things.
  6. I was asked by my home country bank to supply the TIN for Thailand, which they will pass on to the tax authority there (according to FATCA & CRS). I have a pink ID card, and at the Jomtien revenue office they said my tax ID number is the same as my pink ID card number. I just left it at that and sent it to my home country bank. Now I have never bothered to reclaim the tax on interest before (yes such a lazy, rich sad old <deleted> I am ????), but I guess I will start, since interest rates will probably go up going forward. Can I go back in time to previous years (say up to 10 years back) to claim back interest, or is it just for the current tax year? Going back I can find some worthwhile amounts, before rates nosedived. Since I have the pink ID card, do I still need a separate tax ID card for this? I have no other income in Thailand, except bank interest (@BBL, savings and FC accts.)
  7. Thanks! I like the roof colour, looks really nice, and of course Jotun is an old favourite being a norsky and all. But in the local Pattaya Jotun shop they didn't stock the roof paints. Can order of course if I end up going that route. Can you give me an idea of the costs for this project (as much details as you have), and approx roof area?
  8. Here is a pic of the roof of a neighbour. He did a pressure clean, patched visible cracks, two coats of what he called primer, I guess it was the TOA weathersealing. And then two coats of paint, also TOA roof paint. He used totslly unskilled labour, he had to supply all materials and all equipment, and tell then exactly what to do at each step. Took 3-4 guys 3 weeks to do. Cost 55-60K THB, not sure split labour/materials, but definitely more than half was materials. But somewhat smaller roof than mine. It still looks great 3 years after, and no leaks as far as I know. Not sure I can work with a crew like that, abd wife is at work, so cannot help.
  9. Man, too many replies to answer each one, but all read and appreciated. Thanks! Metal sheets are out due to noise, since with the existing tiles it is already noisy in hard rain, even with thick spray-on foam insulation on the ceiling. Many seems to have misunderstood the pictures, both were of the same roof, but at different photo angles. Here is another one, the bottom part is a small "lean-to" extending the eave, not relevant here.
  10. No, I also have info from another house using TOA multicoats, and this thread is to be able to get more info. Does that seem like "stopping right there" to you? As I learn more, my opinion can change. Now I will look at new tiles, I had (seemingly falsly) assumed that would be much more expensive, can seem I was wrong...
  11. Will check SCG and Thai Watsadu for new tiles. Asked the company who quoted me for tech specs just now, awaiting reply. Not holding my breath!
  12. Thanks, I will contact you if I get stuck. And yes, I do live outside Pattaya.
  13. This is actually two pictures of the same roof, just seem to be one... Hope this helps!
  14. I am aware of that, TOA has a weathersealing primer as far as I know. I also realise that anything like this will not last forever. But if a new roof is very costly, it may make sense to push the replacement out by quite a few years, and have a more pleasant look. I will keep digging!
  15. Thanks to all for answering. We have had people up several times to fill cracks and realign tiles, with little to no effect. I will certainly check for a full replacement of the roof tiles, assuming the steel is still ok (check for any rust, may need to paint). Steel is expensive now I hear. Unless I get very convincing data about the single coat/no primer, I will tend to look for a full job with clean/prime/paint, unless of course the difference to a full new roof is quite small. Again thanks for your contribution!
  16. We have a tiled roof that is 15 years old, and it is starting to leak (slow dripping onto inner ceiling foam insulation) some 15-20 minutes after rain starts. So it can seem water is soaking through the tiles, and not so much running through cracks or between them, since I guess the dripping would start almost immediately in that case. I have a quote from a local reputable company to deep clean with high pressure cleaner, replace/patch damaged or cracked tiles and to paint the roof. But: They say no primer or anything else needed, just one coat of this wonder-paint. The brand they suggest to use is "Super J-11". They quote a total of B98,000 for work and materials for a 332 m2 roof. 7-8 working days estimated with 4-6 workers. It is said that when something seems too good to be true, it usually is. What I find elsewhere is a need for anti-fungal/moss treatment, a primer (1-2 coats), and 2 coats of special roof paint, applied at 90 degree angle to each other. TOA seems to be mentioned often as a good materials brand. I am looking for a solution to give very good sealing properties and also for the roof to look good for many more years. What would you suggest? Do you know of this Super J-11 paint, and can it be possible that one coat can do all they claim? Seems like magic, and I can't find anything online about this. Help!
  17. It seems like you would enjoy this essay by Cyril N. Parkinson, about the law bearing his name! Parkinson's Law.pdf
  18. Something for nothing...? The opportunity cost of the 800K in the bank is not an unreasonable price to pay to be able to live in Thailand with next to no hazzle. It is not a human right to live wherever we choose without any cost to ourselves. My opinion only, YMMV.
  19. NB: CORRECTION: Don't look for the Baiyoke tower, that's too far into town. You take the exit AFTER the one to Bang Na, not far after a road toll gate. I cannot remember the name on the road sign, when you have been many times, you stop looking at details. Check the map, and it is actually easy.
  20. Yes use number 7, and exit when you see Bayoke tower, on to Chalong Rat Expressway towards Klong Toei and Phra Khanong. Take the second exit towards Sukhumvit Soi 50 at On Nut, take a left into soi 50, and then take a left again to get onto Sukhumvit itself. Then just straight ahead past Phra Khanong BTS and next one is Ekkamai. Good luck!
  21. Perhaps it is asymmetric: A lack of decent attire may tip the scales against you, while a decent attire is expected and therefore more neutral?
  22. That is of course a fairly safe way of doing it, especially during "normal" (sic) circumstances. But being risk averse and not knowing what will be of potential strict regulations 3-4 months up ahead due to a fourth or fifth covid breakout, I would like to get it done ASAP. After all, we are in a place that isn't going to defend our "rights" (sic again) very hard if pressed. But that's just me, YMMV...
