Why is checking into a hotel pointless? Even if it's just for a few hours, I'd prefer a nice hotel rather then some dirty airport floor... The Novotel just behind the parking garage is wonderful, and they give you 24 hours, no matter what time you check in.

Is the voucher still available?

I got a health plan from Bupa, one of the better ones. Covers me while abroad as well.

Infrastructure is NOT the problem.
Content would have to be streamed from Thailand or Singapore as many IPTV offerings for expats are.
ToT has IPTV offers for long time bundled with fibre optic internet (Thai only).
Its 50 Baht per month added to the base price.
The problem is the content competing with the esptablished free TV offers.
And Thais are not willing to pay for TV (or 50 Baht per month?).
I doubt this will be big business.
NOT Thai only; we have TOT IPTV with tons of English changes (Fox, Fox News, Kix, Star World, Universal, Nat GEO Wild, Nat GEO People and more).

The Internet infrastructure here in Thailand is not strong enough to support Netflix. South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and maybe Taiwan, yes, but not LOS
BS.
I have no issues watching Netflix through a VPN (either from Europe or the US). I imagine it'll work just fine without the VPS as well, especially if the servers are located in Thailand. Furthermore, the infrastructure is good enough to support HD ipTV, so Netflix will do just fine as well.

Having money send from Australia every month to my Kasikorn account, always arrives within a couple of hours...

Find, or make yourself, a spray based on citronella. It's harmless for the dog and will do a pretty good job in keeping the mosquitos away. Also double check around the house for puddles of standing water and make sure there's not place for them to reproduce.

I was rejected by a woman once... It made me sad, so I sat in a corner feeling sorry for myself for a couple of hours. I guess this another way of dealing with such matters...

After using numerous hosting providers the past 15 years (over a hundred providers), we finally settled with A Small Orange (http://www.asmallorange.com) two years ago and never looked back. There are slightly more expensive then the typical crappy hosting provider (HostGator, GoDaddy, BlueHost, etc) but they're definitely worth it. We have a dedicated server with them for $125 a month, but they have a variety of VPS and semi dedicated options as well. Support is fantastic, with always available chat support (free of charge). In addition, they offer extra premium support packages for even faster problem solving.

It is my understanding that there's a provision in Thai law which allows foreigners in a position such as your friend (in case his wife would indeed pass on before he would) to take ownership of the land+house (where the land's size can be more then a rai or half a rail, not entirely sure). I once asked my lawyer to look into this and he indeed found this to be true. Contact your own lawyer to be sure.

STOP! with the Burmese jokes for God's sake.......any Idea how stupid you come across as being?
It may seem unlikely that his hands would be tied if it was a suicide but it really isn't that strange or uncommon
The idea is to tie their own hands and it only needs to be loosely because the rope used is behind their back
They stick there head through the noose jump and the rope, even if it's only dangling behind their back, prevents them from reaching the rope above.
Sad that someone would resort to this at such a young age
RIP
And this would before or after a gremlin riding a unicorn sprinkled fairy dust over the guy?

Cycling on the level and hiking uphill is way better for the older body.
Much less stress on the knee and ankle joints.
The guy that popularised jogging (Jim Fixx), died age 52 while jogging.
More recently Rik Mayall, age 56, died from a heart attack after jogging.
Research suggest joggers generally have shorter lives than couch potatoes,

Right.... There were times when scientist also claimed the earth was flat as pancake and atoms were the smallest particles in the universe. Just saying.

Why aren't all people who were crying out load, innocent, help with a donations ? Funny where money is involved, people become quiet..
And how the heck do you know who donated what? I have donated some money to one of the fund raising campaigns and I'm sure more posters have done the same...

Don't expect honesty from the members who post hate towards Israel incandescently. You will virtually never find a completely honest post.
And the exact same can be said about the opposite site... These threads always end up the same; both camps dug in so deep in their emotions, neither side is budging one bit and neither side is capable of looking at the matter objectively...

Large numbers of pikeys claim to be independently wealthy so capitalising a Thb 2.0 million Ltd company should be no problem you don't even need 2.0 mill cash to do it
If you intend starting a legal company here the visa is easy to get
Fact is plenty of people start companies here just to own houses so the process isn't that hard is it ?
Claim to be wealthy. Then why are they here? They're trying to get something started on a shoestring otherwise they'd stay in their home countries.
I can tell you've never started a business here. It is a pain in the arse. The monthly social security payments cost 6000+ baht/month. Min salary is 50/60,000. Tax needs to be paid on that 18,000 baht a year.
It's true paid up capital doesn't need to be cash. It can be land but it needs to be tangible. You can't 'blag' it. Plus there is all of the Thai nominee bullshit - not being able to own your company outright unless you are American. It is easier if you are an American. Cost 60,000 in fees to get all that sorted out.
It's expensive. It's time consuming. It's no wonder so many people say <deleted> it and don't bother.
Thailand ranks very low on the 'Ease of business' rankings as a result.
The 50/60k year is only for extension of stay, you can have a WP on less than that if your prepared to leave the country every 90 days, in theory under a company as a director you don't even have to pay yourself a high salary ergo taxation is next to nothing
Social security LOL the princely sum of THB 750/m per employee so don't know where you get Thb 6k/m from
Granted I work here for a company, but know plenty of people who have set their own businesses up
The reason people don't do it is because they can't be arsed, bit like getting a Thai DL or they are not as independently wealthy as they claim
You are talking about something you never did.. i have started up a company here and i tell you its hard. (even harder to close it). It is doable.. but the 4 Thai employees are stupid.. digital people working for clients in their home country can't use Thais.
Then you got loads of problems with the accountant (i am an accountant so i know them). next time try something before you comment.
I'm not sure about Rob, but I have setup a company in Thailand several years ago. And I can say for sure it's nothing like you're making it out to be. Either you have been taken for a ride by others involved with your company or you never actually set one up.
For starters, the capitalisation of 2 million... non issue, as this is just a number one some paper (plus you pay a fee of 5000b per 1 million). This number does not have to be matched by anything, be it cash or land or anything else. All it actually costed us to setup the limited company, was around 25.000b (I could be slightly off as it's been a couple of years, but it's nowhere near the fortune some are making it out to be). We also did not need a lawyer or accountant to set it up for us, we did it all ourselves with the help of the local office. The whole process was completed within a couple of days.
As far as the yearly upkeep of our company goes, we pay our accountant about 30.000b per year, this includes all the book keeping, books and CTA sig at the end of the year.
The four employees requirement is not enforced where we are (I'm married to a Thai, so for me it'd be only two Thai employees), making live even easier. I understand this might change at any point in the future, and we've discussed this with our account and done the math. If this requirement does start being enforced, we'd face additional monthly fees of around 3.000b per month, big whoop!!
All in all, not nearly the big headache you're making it out the be

Skin's blog is pure self deluded fantasist bilge in most parts.
An account of a man's whoring in the biggest red light areas of Asia....it gets funnier where he tries to make out he's not paying for it and has the hot HiSo women kicking his door down as they do with every unemployed tourist who has no visible source of income or zero status here, as they're such a catch...
As Pointed out in an earlier post the 'Why i don't date Bangkok Girls anymore" is so funny, were it better written, and if I didn't want to publicly support this crap, I'd actually recommend it.
The reason you don't 'date' Bangkok girls is because you have no verifiable, regular source of income and probably live in some dump, so most - not even the bar girls - wouldn't give you the time of day you deluded fool.
I guess someone could use a hug....

If this story pans out and the father is indeed a drug addict, would it be a possibility to offer the dad a sum of money in exchange for signing a document waifing all parental rights? Basically, allowing us to put the girl up for adoption and find her a good and stable home? I'd say the ideal way to get the girl away from the dad is in a non-violent and non-confrontational manner, and although I hate to support one's drug habbit, if that's what it takes to help this girl, the end might justify the means...
I'm more then happy to help out here, however I'm not living on Samui (living in Songkhla, few hours south of the island). If anybody involved with the dad and girl needs help, please feel free to PM me.

Let's wait for the DNA results, but for this to be a full on conspiracy, it would mean the involvment of:
1) RTP
2) Chulalongkorn Hospital
3) Siriraj Hospital
4) Ramathibodi Hospital
5) Police General Hospital
6) An airline (for Nomsod's flight)
7) Staff at a Thai airport
8) Staff at the dorm (CCTV/security guys)
9) Scotland Yard (possibly could be done without them knowing, but I doubt it)
10) A boatman (to get him off the island)
11) Phone companies
12) Driver (from Surat Thani to airport?)
13) Staff at the university
14) Classmates at university
Just one break in that link and you've got him. Who knows, maybe they have? I wouldn't hold my breath though.
All the above would be needed for a conspiracy imo. Some of it may be possible, but ot all of it. This guy is the son of a village Headman. Not Kim Jong-Un.
You would make one lousy criminal, my friend
Of course you don't need the corporation of all of these... Just a couple of strategic individuals at any of these institutions would suffice, there's no need to for the janitor at Chulalongkorn Hosipital to be in on this.
And since you only need a couple of figures, combined with the fact that the average Thai would bend over backwards for 50.000b, makes this less of a challenge then one might think. People can be very resourceful and persuasive when they're looking a few decades in the Bangkok Hilton

Next step, concentration camp!
The curfew on foreign workers has always been in place. Workers not to leave camp after 9 pm, not to be in possession of mobile phones & not allowed to ride motorbikes, nothing new here, just enforcing what has been in place for years.
So what? That doesn't make it any less of an idiotic measure...
whats wrong with yahoo today?

Yep, we're having the same problems with ToT. It's a major drag at the moment... And indeed, my wife told me it was in the Thai news somewhere that the government will indeed be doing their firewall trials with ToT... Time to consider moving on!
