What is wrong with a Thai pilot?
Why such a suggestive , negative talk?
I stopped 6 years ago flying NWA and KLM and started with Thai Airways.
Although not so many flights but frequently Mumbai-New Delhi-Jakarta-Yangon.
Never, ever any problem.(also not with reservations or service).

looks OK
Will get used to it

Darn.. I already feared I phrased that last option WAY too attractive for people to resist.

I did actually consider you before posting, and especially for you I decided to re-phrase the first option to the way it is now, so that you could vote! After all, you don't drink a drop when you're going to be driving don't you?
Originally I phrased it as 'I don't drive after I've been drinking'. This would indeed have left you out.
Oh yes, in general: Not all polls apply to all people, Yohan. I'll be doing a poll next about what percentage of women gave birth naturally compared to a caesarian. Would you like an option for yourself in that poll too?
Cheers,
Chanchao
This thread goes to quick.I meant to referto your statement that not every poll is for everybody
-
chanchao,
That was exactly my point.
Only you put it in a better way.But that is why you are a mod
-
Yohan,
the question is;do you get behind the wheel after having a few?
This question is not for us and it is also not interesting if a non-alcohol consumer is behind the wheel.(only than if he is under drugs or has no license. But that is another question)
-
I don't drink ( see my post)
Kevin doesn't drink(see his post)
I think we are the 2 voters.
Yohan forgot to vote?
Or is anyone of us 3 intoxinated
-
ask anybody(friends-neighboors-shopkeepers) ther are thousands of agents.
It is a kind of pyramid system
btw quality is ok

Many of the members who know me, will laugh about the fact that I am reacting in a thread about alcohol.
Yohan,I see in many of your posts, continiously the remark that MOST people don't like non-alcohol drinking people.
I stopped about 18-20 years ago ( I was quite a social drinker), because my wife doesn't drink alcohol and I don't like to drink alone. Also our life at that time, was not involved with bars and restaurants too much(having a little boy at home). The last 5 years I do have a normal social life with business meetings-expat meetings/restaurants/hotels/golf/friends.
In all these years up till now , there has never ever been anybody avoiding me,disliking me or whatever, because of that!
A naughty remark;may be they don't like you for other reasons and you think it is the non-alcohol thing
To be very honest,I do have the feeling that some of them are a liitle bit jalours
-
you don't want to know.Besides from the trouble.
There are some earlier postings about this topic

If your wife is returning under her Thai passport and has not been back during the last year for more than 3 times ,with a maximum of 90 days, than she can import duty free your household belongings (no car).
There is a complete list of conditions and items and regulations available with any big international moving company.
www.AsianTigersGroup.com
www.crownrelo.com and many more.
Most have their own offices in Bangkok and their staff can provide you by e-mail with all.
I will go through the same ,the end of this year.
good luck

My wife just asked me yesterday the same!
She sometimes chatted with her.
Most probably still not settled with the communication devices and no internetcafe in the neighbourhood.
Good that we,who know each other, think about it.
-
Happened with me too,on another poll.
try to view and later got the message you have already voted.
-
look at the Isaan local forum .There is an interesting thread about building costs.
Also look at the photoalbum(i believe page 9 or 10) about a house in Surin. Many pics
-
I'm sorry guys, but it is ridiculous to continue to talk about several LIFESTYLES.
It is about the costs of living.
How people fill in the word "living" , is up to them.
So in this thread we can inform each other about our status/plans and we can feel pity or jalours about the others, but disagree is in my humble opinion not valid.
At the end of this year I will be 62 and I will retire.
I worked for 42 years without interuption. 27 years I shared my life with my (Thai) wife. We don't smoke and we don't drink and only the last 4 years we started to play golf.I simply never ,ever had time for play any sport the last 25 years.
I want that lifestyle that me and my wife worked for very hard, to continue.
Our house is ready, our pension funds will come in,inflation corrected and guaranteed by the government. Some extra funds for unexpected circumstances.
Oh,btw when I met my wife 28 years ago,I had NOTHING!
Now I have a son on law school (almost finished but still in need for money
) and a nice outlook for my retirement.(I owe it my wife)

Hey Pnu,
Is there a golfcourse near your future home?
I would love to chase the little white ball around , looking at you behind the buffalo.
Thaihome.
He is teasing me!
(we are both member of the ofcs )

rcjoop,
Look also at the "cost of living in Thailand" thread ,that is now running.
Other opinions and ideas.
-
thaihome,
Your reaction could have been written by me.
Looks like a duplicate of our (my wife and I) planning.
Only difference is that you have some expat friends and we have some Thai(golfing) friends.
Life is good
-
rcjoop,
Don't worry, that amount looks fine.I think many would like to be in that position.
Everybody sets its own bar.
Where are you planning to retire and when if I may ask?
-
RDN
I think rcjoop nicely explained the basics.
Without going into detail,I would not retire on a annual income of Euro 30.000,-
At the end it is simply a question of calculation.
I had KPMG calculating the possibilities based on the personal facts and they more or less confirmed my own observations.
rcjoop.
There is information on Thaivisa.com.first page

I was not succesful, but here is the new (workable) website
www.clickthai.net

from here it is childrenplay-easy and very detailed.

and I have to disagree with you
I just got information from dutch tax office that my retirement pay will be paid out GROSS.They also informed the pension funds involved.
I will be taxed by the Thai tax office.
I will have to prove to the dutch authorities that I did pay.Otherwise they will inform the pension funds to deduct the dutch tax and I will be taxed retrospective.
My next control date has been set for february 2008.
I have no problem paying Thai tax.

Here you go!

Meaning that there are (almost) no Thai pilots?
Then I owe JBG a apology.
Do you have numbers about Thai pilots working for Thai Airways International.?
(I don't like apologizing you know!
)
