Would you advise me to go to MFA during my next holiday visit to Thailand and let it certify(on top of the certification by the Thai embassy who is the representation of MFA I suppose)?
The more stamps the better?

I know I am a rare specimen under the golfers.
I started 31/2 years ago together with my wife.
I play 1 time weekly and my wife 2-3 times. At the moment we stay in Indonesia (absolutely the top for any golfplayer as far as course layout and luxery and fees). In Indonesia we are member of the Thai Golf Club in Jakarta since 2001.
Last year we started our discovery of Thailand golf by playing about 14 different courses during our holiday.2 weeks ago we made a short trip (with our club) to Thailand and Myanmar and played 3 times.
After my retirement (january next) we are planning to play 2-3 times every week and discover a few more courses than we know right now.
We played mainly in Nakhon Ratchasima- Pak Chong and Bangkok.
Hope to keep the condition and health on playable level

Arriving in Thailand from Indonesia , the first days I many times using the bahasa indonesia language to address thai people.Back in Indonesia it is the other way around.
Meeting my Thai friends at the Thai Golf club in Jakarta where everybody is wai- ing each other,I am doing automatically the same. However when a new Thai arrives he is hesitating between the wai and shake hands with me (farang). So it happens that I make the wai and at the same time he makes the move to shake hands. Some times it ends by doing both.
Never a problem , sometimes a laughing.
To be honest, being in Thailand I feel quite comfortable with the wai.
Meeting fellow farang would be for sure by shaking hands although I don't know how it will be after a couple of years

In Indonesia we pay IDR 100.000 = USD 11,60 = THB 460
PLUS every time for every body each (children included) IDR 1.000.000
multiply above figures by 10! per person.
You see it can be worse

I am highly interested in this topic.
I was married in Holland. I translated the dutch marry certificate into english and let it certified by the dutch embassy. I also let the Thai embassy (in Jakarta) certify this translated document.
They(Thai embassy) advised AGAINST translation in Thai as quote" we can read english in Thailand" unquote.
Further I have a international prove of registration of the marriage ( in 6 languages and generated by computer and e-mailed to me by dutch officials).I also have this certified by the dutch embassy.
Also here the officials were asking why ?
I remember Dr.PP who also stated several times that a thai translation would not be necessary.
I rather go all the way NOW, than be surprised after my arrival

If you want to have your future in Thailand, don't start in the wrong way, by violating the laws
-
forgive me if I am wrong but it is even worse.
After your 3 consecutive years , you can obtain residency and only after 5 years residency one can go for citizenship!
I am looking to go all that way as since april last year my country allows me to accept nationality of my wife without loosing my Dutch nationality. If there is an easier way I like to hear.
-
Thanks for the information.
I printed the page.

With all respect for the " nice " stories about overstay, I think that some readers will not take the time to look at the link that George gave!
Again, why take the risk and violate the law of Thailand?

Dear BTS,
My home country is Holland and I have a son of 25.
Do I have to say more?
In Holland there is the policy of seperation of hard and soft drugs and all the statictics show the benefit of it. It is a policy of tollerance, not legal acceptance.
Personaly however I am against any drugs.
-
and they will not think back about their " youth sins"
-
So, B.T.S ,in about 20 years the world will be a better place, because we will have rulers who know the in's and out's of drugs!
Is it not the flower power generation that is on top now?
What do they bring us?
And by the way there are people of your age, who don't use(d) drugs.May be more that you think.

Bluecat is right.
Man, you are so ready for the sick buffalo call
Ask your doctor for valium,so you really can sleep for a few weeks and clear up your mind.
Work hard and come back with money!

Sorry , my first information was a little bit meagre.
Title is; Thailand Golf Course Player's Guide 2003
Price 700Baht (ISBN 974-90372-4-3)
Comm Bangkok Co.,Ltd www.hellothai.com/eng
CM with 8 courses mentioned.
-
Buy the small (green coloured) booklet ; Golf 2003
hundreds of courses all around Thailand.
Indication of prices, course lay out, route map and so on.
I also like variety and crossing each course that we ( my wife and I) played.
So far we concentrated the activities around Korat and Bangkok.
-
Although I understand the comments, it is may be too early to " complain ".
I think it is in principal a good idea too diverse.
I am interseted in Korat/Isaan/NE.If I want to find something in travel about this subject ,may be I have to go 5 pages backwards to find something,if any!
Give it time I suggest

Normally 24K
Ring most 20K

I don't drink (alcohol),I don't smoke and I don't use drugs.
Always when this topic is on the air, the arguments (pro and cons)are flying around.
In Holland or Switzerland you buy certain drugs without any problems ,however in Thailand /Singapore/Indonesia it can mean the death penalty.
Stay at home or obey the laws of the country you visit.
No pity at all for any of the offenders.

Don't believe he will be executed.
Too much interests on stake by various groups.
The latest survey by Political and Economical Risk Consultancy LTD (Hong Kong) ,shows Indonesia topping the list of most corrupt country in Asia.
(Thailand is on shared 5-7 with Malaysia and China)
The most corrupt departments in the government are Legal and Financial dept's.
Although it is hard to compare amongst the several institutions who is most or less corrupt. It is a disaster for the country who is the richest in the region concerning oil, gaz, minerals and so on. Name and we have it.
The NO execution is the opinion of the expat world.
Natives hardly answer and give you the famous smile.
-
Ned,
Agree completely.
I only tried to understand that stupid smiling of him which offend a lot of people I assume.
Don't misunderstand me ,I am happy to pull the tricker or push the button (whatever is needed to execute)
-
please understand that smiling in Indonesia can be a reaction for embarrassment and shame.
Very difficult for us expats to get used to.
On the other hand I agree with most of the writing about keks!
-
Oh boy, didn't you read anything at all , since you become member 11/2 month ago?
There are many people in this forum who can and most probably will give you useful information, but just a little bit homework would not harm

This is my experience ;
Through internet I went to my old home town in Holland (I left in 1998).
Request for a (in English language) report of good behaviour ,as it is called in Holland.
They sent it by courier to Indonesia (my residence).
The costs I payed by internet banking.
All took 3 weeks.(I just received the document yesterday!)
Now I will let the Dutch embassy certify and ready is another document for my next retirement.
Hope you can do something like that in the USA.

I know , but I will not tell anybody
