Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
kinyara replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Germany's single person tax free allowance is even less than the UK's so his point was still absolute nonsense. Good luck trying to live in Germany for a year on less than 12,000 Euros. Thailand's tax system is favourable tax wise to low income earners and I agree many Thais can survive on 210,000 tax free. That's at odds with the criticism made in the post I replied to. -

Where do you get the notion that people would expect to live off a personal tax allowance for a year ? That idea doesn't even hold any reality back in the UK where I'm from. -
Thailand mulls allowing foreigners to buy 75% of condo units
kinyara replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You're reading my mind, we're currently full but in light of current news I already requested confirmation of the current split of the Thai 51% hoping that the Thai individually named are above 25%. Good luck to any foreigner trying to persuade their Thai wife to transfer back to his name if possible !! 😀 -

I'm going to confirm with him next time I see him. I don't want to get too excited yet but I suppose if it's ever going to happen it's got as much chance as any of changing under the current government and its vested interests, and the difficult economic situation that appears to be hitting on a number of fronts. -

Yes but not too bothered about that one off hit, I know the level of cost involved from a friend who managed to make the change because there was available foreign % ownership in his development. From memory it was around or not excessively different to 1 years company fee. -

Re the above tax exemptions can you confirm my understanding is correct. I'm a 58 year old single guy therefore qualifying for the 60,000 tax free allowance. Technically if I brought in only up to that amount I would not have to file a tax return. However if I brought in up to 210,000 baht although I would still pay zero tax I technically would have to file a tax return. ( 150k of assessable income but it would be at 0% rate ). I'm only asking because I could potentially limit my 25/26 tax exposure by bringing in 210,000 tax free this year, albeit I think I'd technically have to file. -

Reading all the comments I guess I must be the only person happy with this potential change. Should it happen I'll be the first person down the land office changing my company owned condo into my own name. Certainly a positive move for someone in my position. -
No, just the bill was all they need.

I only got my bill at the weekend, tried the QR code on receipt which didn't work, checked the updates to this thread, so went to City Hall Monday and dealt with it.

Why on earth would any sensible person waste time looking around what they know to be an undesirable residence ? Unless of course that is all they can afford and are posting about it in the hope they can get more information - 300k to buy, 3k to rent. Can anyone help him ?
-
Don't sweat the small stuff. I live in a 100+ sqm condo and my bill was 904 baht. My QR code didn't work this year and I'd read on here KrungThai weren't processing the payment. So a trip to City Hall, in and out in 15 minutes followed by a nice lunch and a look around in Terminal 21 for a change. It's not difficult really is it unless you just like complaining about small things

Where is " Leaver " ? C'mon ADMIN resurrect him for this thread, it was one of his favourite subjects. Bob Smith, GeorgeGeorgia and Jim Tripper are poor imitations of our Covid era doom puppet. He can't have left for Vietnam, they still haven't introduced the long term visa option he tried to convince us they'd bring.

You are quite right, however my success with them was doing it in person rather than online. I wonder if it was the timing issue mentioned previously.

Condo purchase in Pattaya ?
kinyara replied to ThaiNoobie101's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
I'd recommend saving yourself some time and just search and read the 100's of other threads on the same subject, inevitably you'll end up reading the same arguments for and against from the same people that inevitably will appear on here over the next couple of days, you'll just get there quicker. In short it's a personal decision based on your finances and preferred style of living - permanence or transient, I think other peoples experiences are irrelevant and will cloud your decision making. -
If only economy flights had as generous leg room as the Airport Bus from Jomtien to Bangkok.
-
Getting snobby and superior over choosing to take a taxi rather than a bus is laughable. Even worse that you think that somehow qualifies you to think of yourself as a quality tourist as a result.
-
Re the OP and the scenario you state, Jomtien to LK Metro is easy on a baht bus with minimal walking, off at Kiss on 2nd road and a short walk down Soi Diana, on the way back you take one along Buakow and change at the school right beside the ones heading back up the hill, don't know what is difficult about that. The same applies to any central location really using the baht bus. I can't ride a motorcycle and I hate being a passenger on them as I just find it a horrible experience, I doubt I've been on them more than 10 times reluctantly in 25 years. I've got a car which I use less and less due to the increase in traffic over the years, but since it's cheap to tax/insure and maintain it still serves its purpose of convenience for early morning supermarket runs and one off trips to the hospital, places off the main drags etc. I chose to live on the main baht bus route between Jomtien and Pattaya, most times I'm going into Pattaya for a drink so a motorbike wouldn't be an option anyway. If I want comfort or I know traffic is bad Bolt is a great inexpensive option. If I didn't have a car and wanted to travel further away for a break I'd probably just hire a car for the trip. Between walking around the main Jomtien beach area, baht buses when I need to go into Pattaya and Bolt for comfort and convenience for trickier locations or busy weekends I wouldn't find the lack of a motorcycle or car a problem. For me the most important decision for enjoyable long term living is getting your accomodation choice right, and it's location with regard to the transport options is a major part of that decision, get that wrong and you'll cause yourself unneccessary grief and hassle.

I live close walking distance to the bus station so it's pretty much a door to door service. The only time I'll take a taxi rather than the bus is when I'm flying in from overseas, I'm tired and just want to get out the airport and down the road as quick as possible. All other times I find the bus, airport rail link and MRT/BTS an easy option for a day trip, however the cost saving over a taxi means I'm able to spend a night in a hotel for the same money, so I get way more enjoyment and value out of a trip using the bus over a taxi. I actually view that bus service as a major plus of where I live.

14.4 million wanted and voted for a systemic change to the old order but look at what they got, an anti-democratic coalition of the same old faces who represent no-one except their own economic self-interests. If I was in their shoes I think I'd feel robbed of hope for the future and more than a little downbeat given the tough economic environment they are experiencing.

Can't help you with that as I haven't received my own bill yet, but the obvious approach is to attempt the 2 bank options immediately you receive yours.
