  1. Are you worried about your safety here, what particular thing is it that you fear from the time you get up in the morning until you're tucked up safely in bed every night that would make the safety in other countries at all relevant to you ? Are you thinking of moving to London or New York ?
  2. Was up there yesterday renewing my 5 year car licence and was impressed how much better it was organised compared to the last time I visited - I wish immigration would follow suit and only allow those applying for something into the building rather than the girlfriend/family outings that clog the place up. I do everything official myself but this was a rare occasion I decided to use an agent for convenience. It's not every year and 2 trips out there now door to door service and avoiding a crowded high season immigration office for the residence certificate were the justifications to myself.
  3. News report today says the guy is Sri Lankan and he left the country 2 days before the authorities visited to check everything out at the residence yesterday.
  4. Tune in for another riveting episode of Jackanory from Captain Fiction.
  5. We've gone from the Armageddon of a couple of years ago to normal service resumed, some close some open for any number of reasons, nothing to get excited about. The only significant difference of note I've seen is all the Cannabis shops taking up the empty units.
  6. " Why do you want to go into the police son, is it because you want to solve crimes and enforce the law " ? " No Dad , I fancy being in charge of running the country's airports "
  7. Interesting : TAT - 35 million ( 27 million Non-Chinese + 8 million Chinese ) Ministry of Sports & Tourism - 40 million Looks like TAT are the realists again like the last 2 years.
  8. You don't gain anything delaying your passport renewal, I'd apply asap. With the 7 days after leeway on your 90 day report you've still got until 14th Feb to submit at worst.
  9. What a bizarre take on the situation couldn't disgree more. Everything about his return and procedure to release just reinforces the fact that the contitutional/legal/justice system is being used/manipulated more than ever for political expediency by the establishment elite.
  10. The decision on Pita's shareholding case is due this month, not sure I'd be viewing the Chidchob decision in isolation in this instance.
  11. Even though I've got my driving licence I still rather travel with my passport internally, it could be something as simple as my bank card being eaten by a machine and needing to get cash across the counter.
  12. 😁. It's a popular spot. I remember during the quiet times of the recent past just further along on Dongtan I came across on my morning walk a full crew filming a martial arts scene for a Thai TV programme/movie. There were a few people around but the crew were very relaxed regarding the curious onlookers like myself that were there. Strange watching the action without the soundtrack. 😁
  13. There are quite a view GBR variation options in the nationality box, friend of mine inadvertently hit the wrong one and got rejected although the rejection message actually informed him that was the problem and he re-submitted. 😁
  14. That's you, I wondered who it was. 😎
  15. I recognise it's not your preferred option but I'll second jchfriis's recommendation of AVCamera in Bangkok, ( easy to get to right beside Saphan Thaksin BTS ). Best specialist camera shop in Bangkok and Leica stockist. I've bought lots of used gear from them in recent years once I discovered them, excellent service.
  16. They are conducting their business in a public place so you have as much right to take pictures as they have regardless if it's of them. If they wanted privacy they should have hired a private location.
  17. Be interested to see how much additional inward investment actually materialises during his term from these international trips and summits that seem to be the major focus of his efforts.
  18. I may be wrong but I think he lives in Chiang Mai, which is why he couldn't tell you.
  19. I have a left handed set that you could have a look at and I'm in Jomtien. It's a combination of Callaway X-22 irons - 7-PW, various degree wedges and a couple of hybrids, ( no irons below 7 ), Cobra woods and a Scotty Cameron putter.
  20. I suspect invention, re-invention, fantasy is the world you inhabit on here, I doubt it's anything based on reality. On the off chance you were actually in a bus stop in Australia it's interesting to know they have mirrors, I wasn't aware of that. Is that your never-ending unspecified imminent retirement plans now on ice, I don't think I'll be able to cope with life if you don't continue to post a new " when I get to Pattaya " thread every 3 days.
  21. Yeah I understand that, my scenario is that I would have the difference between my expected 90k a month to my minimum comfort zone of 30k - i.e 60k extra discretionery free budget to spend as I see fit, which gives me a really comfortable lifestyle certainly not poor even if I was spending half of the spare 60k on ST's like the OP
  22. Yes I think that's the correct mindset here.
  23. On the basis I didn't have to is why I advocate initially trying online first THEN going in person if online is rejected, nothing ventured nothing gained.
  24. My idea of a comfortable single life here in today's terms at 60 is owning my own property - 5 million baht, taking future market/exchange fluctuations of the biggest regular cost out the equation, guaranteed inflation increasing after tax annual pension income of 600k baht + a savings/investment pot of 18 million baht equivalent generating a low risk 4% 700k baht annually. A decent health insurance policy should leave a disposable income after a few other fixed annual costs of circa 90k baht a month, I can live a heathy lifestyle that suits me on a 1/3 of that so plenty to look forward to. With that set-up I'm not stressing about money, not interested in spending time and effort increasing it, but concentrating on maximising enjoyment out of what I have. Time and good health is the most precious commodity not the money.
  25. My ideal sea view would be low rise overlooking a fishing harbour or marina where you can actually observe some activity of interest while enjoying a drink on the balcony. Just looking out onto a vast empty expanse of ocean which is typically what's on offer here isn't something I'd personally go out of my way to seek or pay a premium for. I have a spacious balcony in a low rise condo overlooking tropical central gardens, works for me relaxing reading a book or having a coffee, very peaceful.
